- In true Jets form, they allowed a bum with no experience to look like Joe Montana, - We can stop looking for a nickname for this defense. No sacks, and they lost the game for the team. They looked confused all night, and seemed to have forgotten how to tackle. - NO FUCKING SACKS?!?!?!? This is CHAD FUCKING HENNE!!!! - Braylon Edwards won me over. The TD catch he made (and it was a TD) was truth. - The OL seems to have regressed some - The entire team doesn't look near as good as they did. It's a wonder what a few weeks of tape for the opponents will do. This is on Rex. They've figured you out, buddy. Now make some changes to keep things fresh. - SOJ? I'm not quite there yet, but I'm on my way. I do believe that this team has a deep playoff run in it, as long as the coaching staff can make the necessary adjustments. Last week, I called it a "digestible loss". This one is not. I hope this sits in the teams gut and festers. They had the game won, and the defense let a gimmick offense march right down the field, and allowed this offense to push them around like a schoolyard bully. This defense, starting with Kerry "Overrated" Rhodes, can all just STFU and walk the goddam walk. They were embarrassed on national TV last night. I hope they make this a turning point and show the rest of the league that they can't be pushed around like they were last night.
Tony..... i tried to convince some people around here after the saints game that the jets were exposed a bit and now we see the dolphins do their share of it..... i was ridiculed by both rookies and veterans around here and accused of spreading the gloom and doom..... so be it - i like to keep things real with my team - so as to not get too up or down. we see the jets are still a work in progress regardless of the W-L record and euphoria of 3-0 and still need to upgrade a few positions to make the transition into an elite team. but thats OK - i can wait until it comes together - we are still looking at a possible 10 win season and a WC - but nowhere near the 13-3 froth that has been littered on these boards since opening day. jil
lack of sacks do not worry me, we don't have any big time pass rushers but we didn't get enough pressure last night b/c of fear of the WC. The OL played their best game of the season. If they play like that more often than not our O will be really good. How were we exposed? We didn't have the same problems against Miami that we had against NO. we lost at NO b/c of poor play by the QB, this week the QB played well.
I thought about 2 things going into this game, 1. The Dolphins were better than their record and 2. The Jets still have some growing pains to go through. I had a feeling this is exactly what was going to happen, and I am ok with it. Rex's crew have been cuffed upside the head a bit and that is ok too. With the Bills (Home), Raider's (Away) and the Dolphins (Home) the next three, 6-2 is well within reach and that will make this sting go away. Dolphins deserved this win, they ran the ball well and their O line did a masterful job on the Jets D. End of story. Bring on the Pathetic Bills.
I agree with your points. The Jets need to get over the "We have the great D" opinion of themselves. The CS needs to realize that blitzes don't fix everything. We were exposed against the WC offense. I wouldn't call it a gimmick with th 'Phins. They clearly know how to run it, and use all to regularly to be a gimmick. We must find an answer to it. The D needs to take this loss personal. They looked like fools out there most of the night. This loss hurts, you are supposed to beat a seemingly one dimensional team, and we didn't do that. Edwards was great, the O line was definitely suspect, and the SOJ is still in hibernation (hopefully).
junc - the saints did move the ball on us - there were some runs that convinced me our rush D is not a top 5 rush D - regardless of what many around here think. i know the primary factor in the NO game was turnovers by the QB but i didn't like the way our OL handled the saints D - couldn't hold blocks etc etc... i saw the same things last nite with the fish - obviously its a tough running team to defend but if your gonna chirp about your defense you have to perform better than that. jil
I think we absolutely have to obliterate the next 2 opponents. Then we'll see if Miami can do the same thing in our house.
All year we had gioven up some big runs now and then but the bottom line is we kept opponents from scoring and we ha dhel NO to 10 pts. Our D playe dvery well overall against NO. They were awful last night.
jil, I still don't think they were exposed, as you put it, and that was the issue I had with your post. They just aren't as far along as we believed. I do believe that this team can be playing outstanding football come November and December, which is exactly where we want to be. This is a test for the coaching staff.
i am not so sure and have to be convinced of that - a win last nite would have convinced me that we have something here but the last minute loss combined with the poor defensive showing have me on hold. for me the game that will possibly re-juice me is the next fish game at home. they need to show the fans and the fish that they are a team to be reckoned with.....i do not need a blowout but a convincing W where they control the LOS. i am not sure we have the horses yet to do that. jil
Miami played better than the Jets. The Jets blitzing was neutralized and ineffective because of the wildcat offense. I had a feeling this would be a let down game though. GQ needs to get more accurate. Turnovers? All that rushing and no forced fumbles? Blown coverage on Ted Ginn, that's unusual for the Jets. The good news is that the Jets rushed well on a defensive unit which has not allowed a run more than 20 yards all season.
The NFL is all about adjustments, depth and attrition. Seasons aren't made in September they are made in November and December. Reality we have a thin and not a very young D Line. It was in the mid 80's with 75% humidity in Miami last night. Miami has two big, strong fast and experienced running backs a big TE who can block and a QB who can move, has a quick release and can get the ball over the top with ease. Miami didn't go 11 and 5 last year because of Chad Pennington, they did it with a big time run game and a very decent D. We have played 3 passing teams and 2 running teams. TN beats us if they don't implod on special teams. Pace was jacked up last night and over pursued like a mad man and it hurt us early. On O for two weeks in a row Keller has been taken out of the game and teams have dared us to beat them deep. We did that today. Reality is the season is a war, we lost a battle. We have to beat Buffalo and Miami or we aren't going to the playoffs. We are not likely to face two running backs and an over loaded O-Line in that kind of heat again. We have film we have good coaches, stop panicking because a very good running team beat up on a thin Big DL that doesn't have enough guys to rotate who are good enough to go against that kind of running attack without unbelivable descipline.
PS - Was impressed with Edwards, although the play on the pass interference, he should have caught that pass. 30-130 rushing is good. How about that Jenkins play when he jumped the gap, got through 4 defenders and one arm tackled Ronnie Brown in the backfield? That was his only showing, the Miami line played well, AND this time the JETS were the ones with 9 in the box.
One other thing about Miami. You look at that ownership and you can't help but think soft finesse team. The management on the field is anything but that. Note to Marc unless your blind you don't wear shades while singing the National athem.
Watching the game last night, earlier in the evening I would've agreed with you. Our OL was extremely questionable on the run game. Then LDub came in the game, and all of a sudden, he was pulling off 7ypc. Thomas Jones has become a liability to our our running and our OL. I'm all for letting Leon Washington and Greene split the carries, while keeping Thomas Jones as a GL back.
this. what the fuck happened to the o-line?? last week, both pass and run blocking, they were fucking terrible. there seemed to be an unmarked saints defender blitzing sanchez on every fucking play. last night, same thing. no push when we ran, and this weakness was accentuated by the fact that thomas jones does not consistently pick up good yardage running. his stuttering ass is seemiingly always going for minimal gains and always goes down after first contact. on top of that, he seems to have grown an affinity of running into the backs of our o-lineman on the rare occasions that they do create a running lane. with the running game not being established, more pressure falls on sanchez. on top of this, the line has done a shit job of protecting him these past 2 games. the dolfags and saints' D have gotten plenty of penetration over the past 2 games and sanchez has been forced to make a bunch of unsettled throws outside the pocket.
Did you guys watch the same OL I watched? I saw a consistent running game for the first time all year and I saw Sanchez have all day to throw most of the night. What more do we want out of our OL?
Agree the OL was fine last night. Sanchez looked shaky early and wasn't very accurate in the short and mid range throws. Jones just isn't that good but the line play was fine. This game was lost on D although our O had a chance to open the third period with a game changing drive and spit the bit.
We got a push when Leon was back there. TJ looked like he ran hard, but there was 1 specific play where he literally just dropped at the feet of a Dolphins defender after getting just enough yardage for a 1st down. It looks like he's running with this, "these assholes are only paying me for 3ypc and that's all I'm gonna give them" mentality. The pass block was actually pretty good. Sanchez had to step up in the pocket a couple of times, but he didn't face a lot of pressure from the 3-4 rushers Miami was sending. So I wouldn't say the OL has been terrible. I think TJ makes the OL look terrible, but other than that, they haven't been that bad.
