Am I completely mistaken or did we not use up all of our timeouts? There was a point in that last drive that it was pretty obvious the dolphins were gonna have enough time no matter what. What's the point of having 2 timeouts if you only have 6 seconds left?
It wasn't obvious Miami would score at all and had we used TOs Miami would have bled the clock anyway so it wouldn't have made a difference. The bottom line is we have to get off the field on 3rd and long and we couldn't do it.
The JETS should have used them no matter what. To end a game w/ TO's in you pocket while allowing the opponent to score on the final seconds is a bad coaching move. Very HERM EDWARDS LIKE.
No, it wasn't obvious they would score. It was obvious that they would have enough time to if possible, though.
More so than the time, I was calling for a timeout there at the end - simply go give the D-Line (Jenkins, et al) a blow. Still, it should have never gotten to this point. A lot of guys on this D have got to look in the mirror, same thing with the scheming by Rex and the staff. Miserable loss. Hope they learn from it. This embarrassment, hopefully, should be bad news for Buffalo and Trent Edwards next week.
They had multiple 3rd and longs, at no point was it a given they would score. Not even on that last play.
He was confident they werent going to punch it in, which means there is no point in calling those TOs.....He was wrong
Using your line of thinking, we should have let Miami score with 1:30 left and put the ball in the offense's hands. Unfortunately, tonight that may have been the best thing to do (with the way the D was playing). But Rex can't do that, he is going to win or lose with his Defense. You have to respect his commitment to forcing the field goal, in which case the timeouts don't matter.
He said he didn't think they would score and that is very questionable considering they ran the ball and passed the ball up our asses a majority of the game its a mistake on his part and hey he will learn from it and hopefully not make it again.
It was 3rd and 10 from the 16 w/ the clock stopped at 1:06 to play. After they get the first down if we use the timeouts it's useless anyway b/c then they just run the clock down anyway. The only reason would have been to give our D a blow but Miami held the ball 33 mins so it's like TOP was out of wahck. We weren't getting beat b/c we were tired. Miami was executing adn we weren't.
I understand being confident, but lets be real at the same time. The 'Phins were running all over us, you have to assume they are going to continue to eat the yrards on the ground. Poor move by not using the TO's even if to just get the D a breather.
of course there was. at the 15 with a minute to go, the FG was inevitable, so yes, it was a practically a guarantee they were going to score and a coach has to anticipate it. at the best, even if they are held to a FG, you use your timeouts to give your offense some time on the clock to play for the win in regulation. at the worst, they take a lead with a TD, like they did, and you give your offense more than 6 seconds to make a game winning drive.
if he was confident they weren't going to score at all, meaning not even a FG, he's an idiot. if he thought they would be held to a FG, he's an idiot for not playing to give our offense more time in regulation to win. either way, that rationalization makes him look like an idiot.
you guys realize us calling timeouts would have played even more into the fins hands right? yes they were going to get kick the field goal, but at that point you have to trust your d to hold and live to fight in overtime. the defense didn't do it's job, the coaching didn't put the defense in position to make the stop and they can be blamed for that. trying to blame the coaches for not calling timeouts in that situation is just being an angry and bitter fan.
It reminded me of the Monday Night Miracle. I was yelling to just let them score because I had no faith in our defense. In the MNM the game was tied and the Dolphins scored too quick on a bomb when they could have just milked the clock and kicked a game wining filed goal. Instead we were able to get a game tieing TD and send it into overtime.
Actually it was nothing more than pure arrogance on Ryan's part. His own words "I didn't think they'd score a TD" I'm not sure how it wasn't obvious they'd score...they pretty much did it at will. Arrogance. When you coach with your head in your ass, bad things happen. You call the TOs for a reason. It wouldn't have hurt them to call them, it only would have helped.
When you can't stop the run, and it was blatantly obvious they couldn't stop the run, or the pass at that point, you don't assume your guys are suddenly going to hold. If they had more time on the clock it allows them to work the sidelines, attack what would have been more than likely a prevent D, and spike the ball to at least get you closer to the endzone for a toss up. Not buyin' it. he should have played smart and he didn't.
