To show something. I would assume he is going to get some slot work now with Edwards aboard. It could be his turn to light it up. With his speed, give him a little room to work and it could be a big play. My question is, can he move after the catch? Or is he more about straight speed.
Yeah, maybe he doesn't perform all that well in practice but he has something that very few in the NFL have: elite speed But he's practicing well enough to be active on game day so...
Something has kept Clowney off the field. We don't know what it is but I doubt if the Edwards arrival will change Clowney's PT. In fact, it may have foretold the end of the road for the clown. BS doesn't seem at all interested in getting Clowney more involved in the offense and with all the furor over Edwards, that can't be good for Clowney's frame of mind as he's already miffed about his PT.
Johnny Lam Jones, Troy Williamson, and Darius Heyward-Bay all have or had elite speed. They also all have/had a hard time either catching the ball or correctly running routes. There is a lot more to being an NFL caliber receiver than just being fast. In the slot, proper route running is a lot more improtant than size or speed. That is why Guys like Cherbet and Welker excel in that type of role. If Edwards is gettting to start as Tanny claims, Cotchery is ont the other side, I would expet Wright to fill the slot. Smith and Clowny are both far too sloppy in thier routes to be good slot receivers.
Well, a poster mentioned yesterday how do we know that Tanny and Rex weren't building up Stuckeys trade value by giving him all the snaps? I thought that was a good point. We'll know early, because Edwards, Cotch and Keller will get the bulk of the attention from Miami and if Clowney is in there he should be open and I expect him to get some balls thrown his way.
Oh I know, I'm not saying he should be the full time slot receiver. I don't even think his skill set translates to him being a slot receiver. But I still think he should be on the field more to help loosen the defense up. If a corner tries to jam him and does a poor job and they keep a safety in the box for run support it's a foot race between the CB and Clowney and I like his chances to make a big play.
I just can't figure this guy out. He's always a superstar in the making in preseason. Gets praised for his contributions in practice. Then pulls a Copperfield by disappearing in the regular season. WTF?
Works IF the Jets go with 4 Wr's. Otherwise, I doubt if Clowney even sees ONE pass his way unless its your typical go-route. I just don't understand what it is that Clowney has done to wind up where he is but it certainly seems as if he's behind Brad Smith on the depth chart and that ain't good..
I heard an interview on ESPN radio either yesterday or the day before and one of the Jets beat writers said that Clowney drops passes in practice. Of course the press doesnt get to watch alot of practice but from what they can see Clowney wasnt that impressive. I mean Stuck obv. out played him and they just traded Stuck so Clowney really be that great...IMO
And yet we constantly have Brad Smith lined up. Smith and Wright can't catch either so there's no reason not to give him a shot.
They traded Stuck because i'm sure thats what the Browns wanted. If Clowney was that good the Browns would've asked for him and the JETS would have him on the field.
OK, so here's my Clowney take. Either he is a preseason wonder ala J-slack, or there is something deeper. Maybe it's that the coaching staff feels he is not ready to handle the spotlight and responsibilities that come with being a star receiver. Through his tweets and recent actions, Clowney has shown himself to be immature at this stage of the game. It is possible that the coaching staff feels that he is physically ready to handle the challenge, but that such success would emotionally destroy him. In other words, they are lying in wait for him to show he can handle success, at which point he will be unleashed to wreak havoc on opposing secondaries. ...or he just sucks. That's probably it.
clowney is a bench guy pure and simple.anyone who thinks otherwise at this point should really let it go
Well, the problem I see for Mr. Clowney now is we have guys in position who can do his job and others. Edwards is more than capable of being a deep threat while also having the skills to play over the middle. His height is a huge advantage for him as well. Wright is better suited for the slot. Cotchery is better at every facet of being a wideout besides stright line speed. That puts Clowney to at least a #4 role, unless your sticking him out there just in certin packages.
You mean like the Big play to cotch in the Titans game? Do you even watch the Jets or at very least review the wonderful Vids Jetfanmack makes every week of all Sanchez's throws?
