Thanks for the article, WSW. I enjoyed it.

Most years I end up having a least favorite player on the Jets. In recent years it was Coleman, then two years ago the Bender/Clarke abortion at LG. Last year the #2 CB play was awful, but I wasn't able to get all worked up about Lowery on a personal level. This year he's not the starter, so, putting aside I cringe when he's on the field, he won't be my least favorite.

I know some here don't like Jones, but I see some good with the bad, and Leon has not been having a great year in his stead. So...

I'm starting to think maybe the guy is Stuckey. This single play took the Jets off the field when the pass was right on the money:

"On 3rd and 1 from the Saints 48, Sanchez threw a quick slant that went threw Chansi Stuckey’s hands. Truth be told, nobody would be second-guessing that one if Stuckey executed a routine play. (Incidentally, Washington – not Jones – was the lone RB in the backfield)."

I know the point was to question the OC on that one, but I am troubled by some easy catches that Stuckey has not made. This guy after all is touted as the primo slot receiver. Doesn't that assume he catches the catchable balls? A week ago he had a catchable ball bounce of his hands and was intercepted.

Well, he's not there yet, but he's on my scope. Jus sayin...

I thought he was interfered with on that play. In fact I thought the Saints got away with a lot of contact prior to the ball arriving in pass defense.

Yeah I agree with all the contact, though much of it was inside of 5 yds. that's a great write up btw white shoes. great read for sure.

we got beat plain & simple but they also got away with a key hold when the back sprung for a long outside run on the critical opening drive.

I can't wait for pace, lito & strickland all on the field with the rest of our D starters. holy crap

Yeah, there was a play that Sanchez threw to Cotchery on a hook route and the defender had one hand on Cotch's shoulder pad and the other on his helmet while the ball was in the air. There was a lot of non-calls all over that game.

I guess one thing to be thankful for is that we didn't have the officiating crew that called the Pats-Ravens game. It would have been the polar opposite. That crew has thrown the most flags in the past 2 seasons.

Yea I'm not saying the contact lost the game for the Jets. The Saints won the game and deserved it. All I'm saying is there was a lot of contact. I litterally ripped my shirt off after the no pass interference call and immediately found my cell phone.

FTR - you know I didn't write that, right? It's just an article I posted.

The D is gonna be SICK at full strength. I almost feel bad for Miami.

mods, delete my post..... I thought you wrote it & I thought holy schnikees this guy missed his calling.

I jumped outta da chair a few times cause I did think we got hosed several times early on when it was critical.

I'm sure calls went both ways thru the game & i'll never blame that loss on the refs.

Kudos to the saints defense sunday. I was duly impressed with the playcalling on their side of the ball. We looked horrible on everything we tried

I still think Sanchez will shine for us but that loss is gonna invite 9 in the box for the coming weeks I'm afraid

I'm no Stuckey fan, I think I've been pretty clear that I don't consider him a #2. We desperately need a real WR threat. I love Cotchery, but he's not a 1, and without even a decent #2, he's unable to make things happen.

I have to wonder what the deal is with Clowney. Rex claimed he gave him more reps in practice, but Sanchez doesn't even look at him on the field. I was never convinced of Clowney to begin with, but I'd like to at least see him get the chance to show what he's made of. Stuckey and Brad Smith are not the answer.

I kinda think the saint defense totally overwhelmed our offense so i'm not gonna bash the wr's based on sundays dismal effort. I'll take a close look monday night though

Not to take away from the Saints' defense, who I've already stated played a great game, but this is week after week. Stuckey is too small to be #2, and with Cotchery not being a true 1, that's too much of a liability. It wouldn't be as bad if Keller were getting involved, or we actually had a third #2 WR talent, but the best we have at 3 is Brad Smith.

Cotchery has the potential to be a playmaker. However, without a significant threat on the other side of the field, he's handcuffed. And that handcuffs Sanchez. It's only going to get worse if we can't come up with a real threat. More screens maybe? Get Leon the ball and let him make magic. Clowney needs to step up. I'm also hoping Greene can get this running game on track (or at least give Jones a reason to fight for yards.)

If Clowney actually has the talent that I think he faked against 3rd stringers, this offense has great potential. If he has that talent, then you can put Stuckey in the slot, where he becomes a threat, opening up Cotchery and Clowney, and have Leon in the backfield as the CMart-esque dump guy, Sanchez can be deadly. Of course, you'd also have Keller, who should find more space with more threats on the field.

Without that one significant weapon apart from Cotchery though, it's easy to double Cotch and let zones handle everyone else. Cotchery doesn't have the package (speed, height, weight) to fight a double-team, and no one else seems able to beat their coverage.

To summarize, if we had 3 "twos" we'd be fine. But we have one 1.5, one 2.5, and one 3 (Cotchery, Stuckey, Smith) and one "?" Keller (who shows flashes, then disappears.) You can't ask a kid as green as Sanchez to make that into a championship offense; especially with the hot and cold rushing attack.

Yikes. Hard to argue with that, but it does not inspire confidence to consider I basically agree with you.

good post. it sums up the situation pretty well. I'd like to think stuckey will improve, our running game will improve, & then passing will open up but given the above stated reality, how we gonna run with 8 in the box?

I'd just add that Cotchery is beating the double teams just fine so far. He has had double coverage for most of the last two games and he has 13 catches for 179 yards and a TD over that span.

All the Jets need to do is create a threat that must be covered on the other side of the field and they are fine. I'd say split Leon out more but the problem is he's short and has small hands and is primarily an outlet receiver as a result. You don't want him fighting for the ball with a CB looking to take it away.

Ryan said he thinks rookie RB Shonn Greene, who tweaked his ankle on Sunday, "will be fine."

it doesn't matter if Clowney has the talent to be honest. The fact that he is the vertical threat on the roster is what it is, and the Coaching staff needs to get used to it.

    Stuckey belongs in the Slot.

If Clowney can't get open consistently, than just have him run Deep every play, and force the DB's to run sprints with him..Eventually they have to switch up, and someone else can get the benefit of making cuts against a guy with tired legs....

And everytime a FS has to help out on Keller, the possibility exists that the coverage on Clowney will get blown for 6.

Personally (and maybe I'm just still irked over the poor route combination on the Sharper pick6) but I don't think they (WR's and CS ) of using complimentary routes to force bad decision making.

They do a good job of getting a guy singled up 10-15 yards out...but thats it.

Go back and look at the pick6 sunday.

Keller is running almost directly at Sharper passing by his right hand...

4 feet away the wideout is running almost directly towards his left hand.

No matter who Sanchez throws to, Sharper only needs to take one step to pick that pass off.

Now, It's impossible to know if it was the receiver or the call that was bad. Probably a combination of both....but 4 games in, having two bodies in the same spot on a 20 yard pattern is a no-no.

Yeah, but he also thought that Sheppard and Strickland would be ready to go for the Titans game.
