Everyone please take a freakin' minute and relax. We only lost one game. Let me repeat.... WE ONLY LOST ONE GAME! Now everyone relax. I was so sick of hearing how we were Super Bowl bound before this game, and now I'm so sick of hearing how we are wasting an opportunity to go to the Super Bowl. One game at a freakin' time guys. We are 3-1 thru 4 games. How many of you actually expected 4-0? I know I didn't. I had us winning 7 games this year.
Sanchez is a bust as is Vern Gholston, I for one am glad that we will forfeit our next years 1st round pick to the Niners for tampering to avoid this string of fail. /me digs out his white Jets Favre shirt, colours it purple and becomes a Vike fan for the remainer of the season.
I'll share something personal in response to this, fully understanding it opens me up to personal assaults likely to piss me off. While from a reasoned, rational perspective you are correct, I do believe that we shouldn't be complacent (lack of a better word) about a loss. For example, my son did poorly on an exam recently. My wife's response "Oh get over it, it's just 1 exam." I wanted to Chris Brown her when she said that. While her statement is factually and statistically accurate, I just don't think that the "oh well" attitude should be the approach to a failure. Yes, at the end of the day, fan reactions means shit in the W-L columns, and yes, the 1 loss is not only not the end of the world, it doesn't even take us out of the playoff hunt (only week 4, I know), but I just take no solace in the it's just 1 loss, it was a fantastic NO team, etc. sort of pacifying thoughts. I don't know, now I'm rambling when I should be working.
We really need a sub-forum for posters who post rationally. I still think today what I though 7 days ago, the Jets are a 1 win in January 2010 team. Considering I fully expected to start 0-4, and win only 4 just 5 weeks ago, that's pretty damned impressive to me. Losing sucks, but every week half the teams that play do it. Well, maybe not McNabb teams...
I'm with you, and I doubt Murrell would be against you too. (Though I'm sure no one is condoning Chris Brown behavior.) Failure is not something to find acceptable. However, the point of the thread is that yesterday's game should not be provoking the "Sky is falling" posts that are spanning over 5 pages of this forum. BTW: I'm the same way about tests with my kids. Bad grades are not an option.
Normally I would agree with you, and definitely will be once Sanchez gets his feet under him and becomes more experienced, but I see the current complacency as a result not from the fact that we lost but HOW we lost. As a Jets fan, I am used to terrible coaching, poor tackling, bad pass coverage, getting blown out, etc. etc. etc. That's not really how we lost. Our defense did give up gains on the ground, but held when it mattered and did it short-handed against one of the top offenses in the league. On offense, we sputtered, but were in the game for most of it until Sanchez became what we expected him to be in week 1 - an inexperienced rookie. I think most of us have probably felt a little spoiled from the early success, and like true Jets fans, have been waiting for the other shoe to drop. Well, we lost yesterday, but that just wasn't the other shoe. If there is ever a time to use an oxymoron, yesterday was an 'impressive loss' to me. Sanchez needed to get his ass kicked, and he did it against a team that can't hurt us in tie breakers. If we have to lose a few times this year - and we do - I'll give it up to one of the most well-rounded teams in the league for an unimpressive win.
The best part is opposing teams are probably reading this thread and taking all the replies seriously.
I'm pissed we lost yesterday. I literally get physically ill when we lose. But to have all of the irrational threads / posts around here about how we are wasting a Super Bowl opportunity, or Clemens should be the starter (I'm assuming these are jokes, but knowing what I know...some of them are not), the sky is falling etc. etc. .. It's not okay that we lost yesterday, but it's equally dumb to start thinking the season is going to now be a failure.
You wanted to beat your wife for excusing one exam? Please seek help. No, a loss is not to be dismissed. I don't think anyone is suggesting that. What people are saying is that it isn't the end of the world because of HOW we lost. Our rookie made mistakes like a rookie does, and it provides a great learning opportunity for him. The fact that he had so many problems in this one game means that we'll be able to address and correct those problems all at once. This kid has a faster learning time than most QBs I've seen, and he adapts well. This was going to be a tough game, and while the loss sucks, we'll be able to benefit from it as well.
Haha they are, I cringe at other forums selectively quoting the absolute worst of us. Especially the bench Sanchez posts. Horrible. Losing sucks, luckily we won't have to feel it too often with this team.
With that sexy little avatar of yours, I think I won't call for your head. What I would say is, I know a loss is a loss and its not acceptable. But did u expect us to have a 19-0 season? I would say about 100% of people who have sense expected us to lose a few if not a lot. This was one of them. Ever season, there are 32 teams playing a season each. How many perfect season has the NFL seen? I think 1 if Im not mistaken, in all those years of NFL history * 32.
If we only lost one game...WHY DOES IT FEEL LIKE 0-16?!?! WAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!! WAAA-WAA-WAAAAHHHHHHH!!!
