It does though because coming out of the draft, some guys will be bigger projects than others but its the potential factor that is what these guys are being drafted for. If they can step right up and contribute, all the better but there's going to be a chance always that guys will take a bit of time to get the memo. Brees was another example of a guy who didn't do much early in his career and it took a while for him to get the message(Including drafting his eventual replacement) I don't think a guy needs to rack in a number of sacks in order to be considered "Doing his job or not" so much as if he can get pressure and cause double teams which helps out another player try and work the QB. And I have seen Gholston do that in 2-3 of the games. Not consistently, yes I agree but he isn't as much of a black hole as some people are making him out to be on this board. I mean its just 4 games under a new defensive system and coach, defensive coaches have said he is improving and learning nicely as mentioned by Pettine. I will not say he's becoming a stud now this season after what he's shown but you don't think the "Bust" word is a bit premature for a 23 year old JN?
Yes I agree the bust word is strong and too early for him. However I am just not sold in the least on his fundamentals. Specifically the way he moves on the field and takes on blockers and goes after the ballcarrier are most alarming to me. I don't think these are things that can be too coached up. I think these aspects are more instinctual to the majority of players who have gotten to this level of football. However maybe Gholston is the exception and I hope I'm wrong but I just don't see these things translate well in his game. We'll see.
You just can't win an argument with a delusional Gholston groupie. I've learned this the hard way. Won't stop me from chiming in though!!
if you are going to start slandering people who disagree with you, you should at least have the cajones and the intellectual honesty to know what you are even talking about. You came on here and posted some bullshit about how there were quite a few 3d down conversions on running plays that were Gholston's fault. I Call Bullshit on that. I have reviewed the game and I have proved that you are totally full of manure on this point. People who make totally false statements are the ones that are clueless idiots. I don't give a shit about Gholston's hype. He has been working his butt off to improve and he has improved. He did not play that great today but neither did the entire offense and alot of the defense and specials. So the fact that you chose to single Gholston and the fact that you chose to do so based on your own false statements about third down conversions says more about you than it does about Gholston.
My thing is he is playing more like a DE with the hands on the ground and he is trying to force himself and push back the O-Lineman instead of swirling around him and taking the chance of being burned or getting himself more near to the QB. He's been a DE so he is thinking as if he is playing like one by trying to bulldoze through a lineman like how it worked for him in college. He has always been a DE throughout his young career in football so its a very big step for him to be a OLB. There are some learning curves he will soon have to have but its just a matter if the fanbase is patient enough to wait and see. And by the looks of this board, its looking like a lot of people just are not willing to wait and want results here and now.
Who cares what a person's belief is. If a "Gholston Groupie" is trying to explain to you as to why VG isn't the anti-christ that he is being made out to be why should he or she all of a sudden be looked down upon?
Very clever. Fwiw, Schotty did make bad calls, the refs missed a few calls in the first half, and our running game averaged over 5 ypc.
It just seems to me that Gholston apologists are willing to dissect the game film ad nauseum and sift through the minutia in order to find something positive and/or encouraging to say about the guy. That, to me, is the sign of a pathetic ballplayer. As far as I'm concerned, you can watch the game live from the top row in the upper deck and see very clearly that Gholston has contributed nothing and looks like little kid lost in a supermarket the way he runs around the field. Its just as simple as that. Time to get him outta there!
What results do you think the fanbase actually wants?? Do they expect Vernon Gholston to be Deacon Jones? The team is a surprising 3-1. The Defense is good to superb and didn't even yield a TD until the 4th Q today against the best total offense in the NFL and the 2d best rushing offense in the NFL. Gholston is a 2d yr man learning a new position and he has played better throughout training camp and the early season. He isn't Deacon Jones. He needs to keep getting better He may get better he may not get better. But even with a mediocre Vernon Gholston - the Defense is one of the top 5 in the NFL.
LMAO ok AS I'm sorry, WHOA. I didn't know Gholston was your hero...LMAO:rofl: Sorry didn't mean to hurt your feelings. By they way The definition of slander: a malicious, false, and defamatory statement or report: a slander against his good name. I may have embellished, but run plays, passing, whatever, several plays came your boyfriends way and he stunk up the place. Calm down, change ya panties, you'll be ok :rofl::rofl: Nothing I said about Gholston is false...HE SUCKS! But chill out dude, I don't want you to beat me up over GHOLSTON...LMBAO!!!
Dude im not sure why you had to define slander, is it so you kno what it means before you post another stupid post that is based on crap that you make up? you know more about changing your panties than you do about football. Basically everything you said is false. And the minute you get called on it you freak out instead of simply admitting you were wrong. If you had something legitimate to say then that would be one thing. Instead you decide attack a New York Jets player based on bullshit that you made up. As if that wasn't good enough for you, you then feel the compelled to start impuning people's sexual preferences if they disagree with your fourth rate opinion. Dude should just beat yourself up and save us from your "brilliant" football insights.
Abdul Salaam, dude you are truly taking this too seriously...Ok I'm sorry, you feel better now? I have an opinion, whether you agree with it or is truly of no importance to me. I'm having a good laugh at your expense, seeing how strongly your feelings are for this man. But the bottom line is, your amorous reaction towards Gholston warranted the reaction you got from me, what's up with the love fest with this bust? The problem I'm having with you my friend is I normally agree with your assessments but you came at buddy, so I reacted in kind. Again, I did NOT blame the total loss on Gholston, but as I have indicated before, you did not read EVERYTHING I wrote initially. I wondered if people who are so in love with Gholston, still think he's improving. I acknowledged that Mark Sanchez played terribly, I acknowledged our run D and our run O was just as culpable for the loss, but I wondered if you Gholston lovers thought he was improving and your fan club went beserk like a bunch of offended chicks. I mean run on sentences and all, man you are truly in love with this dude. LOL! You'll be ok, get some sleep. When you wake up in the morning Gholston will still be in a JETs UNI and no matter how I feel about him, he's still a JET, you'll be happy as pie. LMAO I'll buy you a teddy bear and rock your sensitive ass to sleep.
Why are you bothering with this guy? He isn't a very good poster nor knowledgeable. All he is interested in is the"I told you so". There are plenty of other people to have a debate with....... You want to talk love...... ask this guy how Danny Woodheads balls taste? Edit: Not a Gholston fan.......... but at least AbdulSalam backed up his posts.
ATL i understand that you are embarrassed by your own stupidity and overall football ignorance. However, your fixation with your homosexual feelings is beyond the scope of this message board. There are probably places in ATL where you can learn how to happily come out of the closet so that you will be able to stop projecting your self loathing of your own homosexuality on to others who point out the stupidity of your inane football comments. BTW: I have never said I thought VG was great or anything. I just think he deserves to be treated fairly and he has improved and he has made some good plays. There were certainly alot of other guys who could have played better today including VG.
Touche' ... body blow...that was actually a great comeback AbdulSalaam! *standing applause* ... you actually have a pair!
Fire Gholston. he sucks. he is to blame for this entire loss. If it wasn't for gholston we'd have won by 3 touchdowns.
Ok, enough...LOL, you and Miami Puck, got me, tag team. I tap out...yall got me. If Gholston actually turns out to be a great player I will man up and eat my words, real talk. I want him to succeed, he's a JET. Plenty of my frustration is, that this man is making plenty of cheese to do absolutely nothing, but a non drafted walk on is putting him to shame. The other part is that I did acknowledge that this was NOT totally on Gholston, but it is what it is. I concur that Sanchez sucked. I think I did that initially. I agree in my frustration I may have embellished what has happened with Gholston today, but, I am not the only one who saw Gholston on several plays, be they running or passing plays, where he was totally NOT in the play when he should be and he looks totally lost, this seems to be the norm with him. But come on, let's be real, 1 tackle in 2 games? a 2nd rd pick and UDFA are outplaying him. You guys have GO TO admit, that is disappointing for a 1st rd #6 pick making over $40mil But hey, the bottom line, I'm a JETS fan. I want to see this team win, I'm tired of over 30 years of BS. My apologies for allowing this all to get out of hand. Sincerely.
Again, I never said Gholston lost us the whole game. But I want you to answer my initial question, do you really think Gholston is improving? with 1 tackle in 2 games and playing with his hands on the ground as he's done in college?
