It absolutely blows my mind how many Giants fans and Talk-Show hosts bash Eli Manning, constantly questioning his ability as a quarterback. This guy lead that team to the Superbowl, beating one of the greatest teams in NFL history, and they think he isn't any good? Think about it this way: other than Drew Brees, who in the NFC would you rather have as QB than Eli Manning? Romo? No Way. Favre? Are you serious? Cutler? He hasn't accomplished half as what Manning has!
His demeanor doesn't do him any favors, but the hate he gets is pretty crazy. I think it's because NYC demands perfection and Eli, for all his merits, will have a bad game every now and then. I'm a huge fan of his and don't get the hate, but I must admit that once upon a time I was drinking the Hatorade too.
This is new york if u dont win a super bowl every year its a failure. I'm tellin u right now if we dont win a superbowl by year two of the sanchez era the hate talk will start. There is a reason why the song goes "if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere"
It's New York, it's talk radio, it's sports fans in general, and even though he won a Super Bowl his play does have a habit of becoming uneven. Wait for Sanchez to have a couple of shitty games and then listen to what people say. Or don't. Because people are dumbasses.
At this point, I would rather have his brother Peyton. OMG...the guy makes everything look so easy! He has been playing great this season, now that he has gained his weight back & recovered from his knee surgery. Don't worry about Eli...up until the SB42 he survived the most brutal, constant criticism...and now he is making a TON of $$$$$. He can laugh all the way to the bank. Eli and Peyton are constantly doing community service and helping out others, ergo, they put that good karma out there and it always seems to come back to them. Eli and Abby just gave 1 mill to open up a mother/baby wing at one of the New York hospitals. I read that "the Jets fans are also invited to deliver their babies there." LOL
They won a Super Bowl with him at QB and playing a key role. That said, he's not Peyton and that probably explains the hate. There are some QB's that if the defense holds up their end can take you down the field to a win. That's Eli in a nutshell. Peyton on the other hand can take you down the field three times in a row if he has to because the defense is having an off-day.
I think his last name doesn't do him any favors, he is not Peyton but really there is no shame in that. IMO what he has done in the shadow of his big brother is mighty impressive. The guy is a great QB, he is cool as ice and really there aren't many QBs I would take over him with the game on the line needing a TD to win. I have to say he has surprised me, I thought he was going to be a big time failure, especially in NY.
I stand by what I said: Besides brees, tell me one other QB in the NFC you would rather have than Eli Manning?
He won a Super Bowl, Giants fan that are hating are clueless With Manning at QB, the Giants will be contenders for the next decade
These QBs you can make an argument for. McNabb- Hurt too much but when healthy? Rodgers- This kid looks pretty damn good Cutler- I would take Manning over him right now Ryan- If I'm starting a team, Ryan may be the first pick Warner & Favre- For one game maybe?
So we pretty much agree that the have the 2nd best QB in the conference, but yet his own fans bash him???
I doubt it applies to Giants fans but as far as others the whole nonsense with his father about him not playing for the Chargers rubbed people the wrong way. The fact that he looks and sounds like a retarded child didn't help his image any either. I'm not sure where you get the impression that Eli doesn't get the credit he deserves though. If anything he's been given a pass for his generally awful postseason performances based on the fact that the Giants won a Super Bowl, even when their passing game was probably the least important part of that team.
Because he under/over throws his receivers a lot and never looks crisp or sharp throwing compared to somebody like Sanchez who just has a beautiful throwing motion. In the 4th quarter he turns into iceman and thats where he makes his money, but he's not a sharp quaterback.
Oops....sorry, I read your post too fast...I thought you said in the NFL. Great thread BTW...Eli is painfully shy and quiet, imho, and that is why he comes across as a "ruh-tard." Eli said that he was so grateful when Favre came to town, because it got the press off of his back and out of the limelight. Eli just wants to play ball and win games.
