Hell yeah, O'Brien had a couple amazing shootouts with Marino as well as a couple "perfect games" and a NFL record most yards thrown with a perfect QB Rating..
I think he would make an excellent quarterbacks coach. Whether he gets cleared to play or not after he recovers should not factor in a decision he needs to make. He's young and has a family and like Curtis Martin should opt for enjoying his life with his family. It would be unfortunate if he plays to the point where he can't even play catch with his kids.
Tino Martinez was a Seattle Mariner who had some good years with the Yanks and then was dumped after his best season for the free agent of the moment, Jason Giambi. Obviously a bad decision for everybody involved. Why was it time to move on from Tino and how is that anything like Chad?
WOW I hope if you ever get injured to the point of not being able to work in your chosen career that people have a little more sympathy for you. Just an example of the CLASS that makes some JETS fans look foolish.
Anyone who was a Jet fan in 2002 should appreciate what Chad brought to the Jets, and the way he gutted it out in the playoffs in 2004. Funny that a lot of the people so eager to annoint Sanchez are the same ones dumping on Chad. It wasn't that long ago that he was where Sanchez is now, running out of the tunnel, head-butting the lineman, etc. Except he did it for longer than three games. I'm rooting for Sanchez all out, just like I did for Chad and everyone else we've had, it will be interesting to see how many jump off the bandwagon the minute he has a bad game. Ironic that the same day everyone applauds Sanchez for lowering his head and taking on a linebacker, Chad possibly ends his career due to an injury sustained originally in much the same manner, running for yardage in Buffalo in 2004.
Chad should get healthy so he perform normal activities in the future like getting dressed and picking up his children. If he attempts to return to football the surgeon should leave a zipper in place over his shoulder.
I am sorry Chad got hurt. Seriously, I do not see how anybody can have any ill will towards him. He is a mostly exemplary human being. He can bang my sister any day of the week. That being said.......... I equally can not believe the undying cult love people have for him. He is the very definition of mediocre NFL QB. He never won a big game against a bigtime defense. That is what very good or above QB's can and should do. I understand people have their favorite players but good god this is ridiculous.
I was at the giants pre-season game where they busted his wrist on a delayed blitz. He was never the same qb after that. I think that was more mental then physical. He still plated well but he lost his fearlesness. We never saw those sick turn your back to the defence playfakes that killed teams in 02
Ya I feel sorry for him. He may not have been the best QB, but he still had great character and chemistry with the team.
I would have to rank Chad ahead of O'Brien, behind Vinny. Both O'Brien and Chad were #1 picks and came into the starting job bringing a lot of hope. Both got beat up a lot, both were class acts, both dealt with a lot of unfair criticism. Both were let go uncerimoniously when we brought in big-name QBs (Boomer and Favre). Chad got us to the playoffs three times, won twice and we won a division with him. O'Brien never won a playoff game and came up very small a lot at the end of seasons when we needed him, wheras Chad, if he was still there by the end of the season, usually stepped up.
Most accurate dink and dunk passer within 7 yards in the history of the modern NFL. Fixed that for you Ken O'brien was much better than Chad, he could stretch the field, he was a threat on any part of the field, when he had Walker and Toon, he was one of the best QB's in the AFC...
Hahahaha, this coming from you? That's okay. I'm very forgiving of the mentally disabled. Well said. Even more well said. FTR: I have no ill will for Chad, save for the fact he wore gay the past season and a quarter. It's simply that: 1) He's not a Jet anymore, so I don't care anything beyond how I would any player that suffers a significant injury. I do have human compassion, but I'm not going out of my way to feel sorry for the guy simply because he formerly wore Green. 2) He wasn't as good as everyone seems to remember. He was the most accurate passer in NFL history because he gave Coles and Chrebet a few concussions. He had Curtis Martin in the backfield for dump passes behind the LOS. He had Chris Baker 5 yards out. Chad was one of the smartest QBs I've ever seen. However, his soft tosses counterbalanced his intellect far too much to the bad end. Had he even had a mediocre arm, he'd have been an amazing QB. But he never had that arm. He has a Sunday-afternoon arc-pitch beer-league softball pitcher's arm. As I've said, he'll make a great coach someday. That's where his talent will shine.
I really don't care what Herm Edwards did. Well, I do, but Chad isn't off the hook for putting up just three points. Unacceptable.
The reason why everybody liked him so much is that he brought a team who hasn't seen many playoff appearances in the few years before Chad became the QB to a the playoffs several times. When Chad first started for the Jets, he looked great and was winning games for us. Then he got hurt and everybody was hoping he would be the same QB he was before he was injured. He showed flashes of his old self, just enough to keep the Jets faithful hopeful and excited about him
You can't put that on the QB, that happens in the NFL. O'Brien had a far superior arm and was also very smart and accurate, and still Al Toon didn't last nearly as long as Chrebet or Coles, and he was a lot bigger and tougher. It happens regardless of the QB.
Six seasons, three playoff appearances, two playoff wins and a division title is a lot more than three games. Three games into Chad's career as a starter he hadn't gotten hurt either.
