Ok, I am not just drinking the Kool-Aid, I have an I.V. in my arm. My voice STILL hasn't recovered from screaming at the stadium on Sunday. I feel great and happy and PROUD (a new Jet feeling). But I remember how Mangini year 1, we were all gung-ho. Not this happy, but we were buying in "Mangenius" but year 2 we came crashing to reality. Please tell me we wont come crashing to Earth and below next year too.
We have no run game and a rookie QB that will make some mistakes. So just keep it all in perspective. This is a euphoric start to our season no doubt, but be prepared for some bumps and bruises along the way... just take it easy
Because we have an established offensive line, a defense that doesn't rely on smoke and mirrors, and a QUARTERBACK who should only get better.
This is different from the Mangini thing for me. I didn't see excellence when I saw the team Mangini was fielding in 2006, I saw potential and I saw promise and I saw some innovative trickery that led to neat plays. I tried like hell to hold off buying into Rex. I loved what I saw, but I have also been burned by charismatic coaches that can reel you in and trick you into making excuses for them. He talked a lot, had a fantastic pedigree, and I liked the guy. When I look at this team, under Buddy Ryan's football nerd of a son, I see realized potential, I see elite performance, I see elite preparation, I see the best leadership this team has had since 1998, and I see fear in the eyes of our opponents. No more holding back, man. I may have been gun-shy, but I am the same way xxedgex was before the season started. I'm in. No going back. We've passed the Foghorn Leghorn Chicken-Out sign and they're lowering the shoulder harness. The ride has started and I'm going to enjoy it. That's not to say that I won't voice my concerns when things aren't quite right in certain areas, but that's part of trying to be objective for me - you still have to get your feet back on the ground to fully appreciate how fun the ride really is. Will we crash down to Earth? Most certainly. But I don't think it's going to be one of those catastrophic off-the-rails disasters like we've become accustomed to. Be it a wildcard loss in 2009, an AFCC loss in 2010, or a Super Bowl win in both, there's always an eventual crash after the initial success. It just won't be as bad as it was, hopefully for a long time. Uncle Rex is here to protect you from the bad men.
The Sopranos is no longer on the air. We'll never achieve the same kind of overhyped madness that we had then. This feels just about right for the team we've put on the field.
Ryan just brings an energy that Mangini never brought. I was really hyped for Mangenius, was thrilled when I woke up that morning and read the Record Headline, but Rex is just different. There's no Coles complaining about the brutality of Mangini's training camp from the start, just positive remarks and excitement. The fact that Sanchez seems legit (*keeps fingers crossed*) makes things even better.
those are the reasons we were supposed to start the season 0-3, yet we are 3-0. until this team lets me down i have confidence in them.
lol, no one can blame you, we're all giddy. Lets just enjoy the ride no matter what happens, because even if we lose a game it's going to probably be fun watching it either way, cause our defense is just exciting as fck!
Well no, cause we were supposed to have a run game Oh well, just shows you how far a good defense can take you.
Hold that feeling until this weekend. I'd wait before I made any major purchases. However I completely understand your enthusiasm. Enjoy the ride/hy.
DARKSIDER TO THE RESCUE We're playing New Orleans this week. Arguably the best team in the NFL. No one should expect a win this Sunday. This is the game tape that all other teams facing us will watch going forward. We're still without Pace and our secondary is still banged up a bit. That being said, we WILL NOT be embarrassed by this game. And I will not be sad to be 3-1. Maybe THEN all the homers will stop calling 1050 ESPN radio being stupid homers. IF we win this game (and it's any given Sunday) then we roll to #1 on every list and the big green target Rex has painted on us will be warranted. Until then, TAKE A DEEP BREATH, come back to planet earth, remember how many times the JETS have broken your heart, and SIMPLY ENJOY what should be a great game between NY and NO. (and while we're at it pray for a Giants loss, because I don't want to hear big blue gloat if they have a better record next week). YOU ARE NOW FREE TO RESUME YOUR GIDDYNESS AT YOUR OWN PERIL
There seems to be a big difference between this and the era of Mangini. With Mangini we had Chad, who let's face it, I don't think anyone here really thought was going to take us all the way to the Superbowl. Mangini never lit anyone up. He seemed like a decent x's and o's guy, but didn't have any personality. Then with Favre, it seemed very gimmicky though we were successful in the beginning. Honestly when the defense went all prevent basically and the term "bend but don't break" entered our lexicon, I knew it was over and that I really didn't like Mangini as head coach anymore. None of that felt like the future. None of that felt like a real team to build on. This does. This feels like, and I hope I'm right, the beginning of something special. I am cautiously optimistic, and whatever happens this year I think we have something to watch and see grow.
Good defense, good specials. Parcells was big on these two aspects of the game. We seemed to do OK with him as coach. Rex has maintained a good defense, better than I expected. Even without Ellis for a game and Pace for 4. The specials have been very good, including the weak spot punter. The offense is a work in progress. The run game will get better as the weather gets worse. Sanchez will eventually run into some looks he has not seen. I fear he may burn out near the end of what will be a grueling year for a rookie. But all arrows are pointing up. The coach is refreshing and brutally honest. The team has an attitude and swagger I have never seen. Yes, this includes the Parcells years and Sack Exchange. Teams don't want to play us. The fans are into it. As we all know, things in the NFL can change quickly. I'm enjoying the ride. Haven't had this much fun as a fan in years. May it continue.........
We were a bit but not to this extent. Our D was never this good nor did we have a QB that has this much promise. This is a much different feeling Imo.
