That is totally in the eye of the beholder, and I don't believe he or anyone is the #1 fan. Just because the media portrays, does not mean I buy into it. He does a good job leading the chant at the game. that is all
Alley , I agree the chant when originated , used to alternate between sections in the stands and it was pretty cool. Granted the Ed led chants are much louder but it got to the point where its too organized . In otherwords , people will wait for Ed's lead to cheer. And , his timing is not always the greatest, sometimes when were on O , but also usually only after scores. This year the crowd has been great and up on its feet and cheering when we need it most when on D .
I'm not a Fireman Ed fan, but I had to side with him on this one. Joe sucks. Don't see the point why he kept on bringing up the Dolphins. Ed was great with that response. What bandwagon was Ed trying to jump on with the Jets? My family was never into football, they were into soccer. I had to discover the Jets on my own. Before that I liked the Raiders and the Rams because I used to watch Boyz-N-Da-Hood and listen to N.W.A., and that's where I picked them up from. I didn't even watch any of their games, and yet I rocked Raiders hats and tee's. Sad that people have to argue over who the bigger fan is. Honestly...who cares?
Ed is the face of the fans. Plain and simple. He gets the chant going, hes always on TV and he got the game ball. You may not like it but he is the face and Joe B. is the voice. Regardless of when he leaves blowouts and bad weather games.
They are both die-hard Jet fans and none of us know either guy personally, and thus, this whole debate is meaningless.
The guy who holds him up curses the whole game through no matter how many kids are sitting around him, but that's football, I guess.
(Screw reading 3 pages of tosh) Don't know about anyone else, but I've never ever thought of Ed as being the #1 fan, and I don't think hes ever done anything to indicate it, I think that is how the individual perceives him. End of the day hes a fan, just like us, but the media have 'chosen' him as the fans face, representative of our core base, blue collar. Thats not his fault. Yes he might play up to it now, but as others have said, we would all do the same. Personally I'm glad that he is our 'face', it could be worse........
You've hit the nail on the head. Fireman Ed's claim to fame is that his seats are under the camera that is used for the Jumbo-tron. If his seat wasn't there, we wouldn't be having this discussion. I used to LOVE when the upper deck end-zones went back and forth trying to out do each other with the JETS chant. That would go on all game long (while the other team had the ball of course). Now, they have conditioned the people to only do the chant when HE is on the screen and when is that? Kick-offs, maybe after a big play, a lot of times when our team has the ball. That's about it. Rarely when the opposition has the ball. The chant used to confuse opposing players. Especially when it was coming from multiple directions. Now... ehhh.
Interesting angle: Backyard MMA - fireman ed against the two weasels from the draft. Fireman Ed has the advantage by size but I don't think he's ever tried to choke out someone wearing a ton of clearasil.
Heard a good part of it. Made for really good radio. When is WFAN going ot get smart and put Douchesessa in the 10 o'clock spot and put Joe and Evan in the 1 to 5...
^ QFT...Who is a better rep for Jets fans than a guy whose job description is: Run into a building that is on fire to help save a life ? Right spot, Right time, whatever....Would you rather have the drunk Lions chick (not for pleasure, but representation)
Did you see the Houston game, when TJ scored? Ever see Raider Nation. How about the Dawg Pound? Please.........
We're all the Number one fan. He's just the face the media puts on it. No Big deal. I don't get why people are so down on someone who gets a little notoriety by being in the right place at the right time. None of you better get caught watching reality TV.
Francesa is an idiot, but he gets great guests and actually, generally, knows what he's talking about. Plus, I hate the guy, but he can offer a very interesting historical perspective. I don't like Francesa, but he can kill an afternoon talking about Willie Mays, and I'll eat it up. But Steve Somers, that man is a genius. Put him on 24 hours a day. Schmoozer radio.
I think people forget what the Fireman part of Fireman Ed actually means. He's loud and obnoxious, yes. Maybe very far from humble. But he's a fireman - put his life on the line for a job that doesn't really pay well. Lost friends in 9/11 like many people did. Injured on the job, etc. Sometimes the venom could be toned down for the right reasons when you keep things in perspective. I mean, if he was a fireman for a station in YOUR neighborhood - he could be Tom Brady's gay lover but you'd still give him more respect then right?
And that's not aimed at anyone in particular. Just the anti-Ed guys. Agree with an earlier post (too lazy to look up) - I think he represents us more than the guys who boo just to boo at the draft. Also agree with another poster (still too lazy) - I like the Air Raid siren better than the Jets chant this season.
I never understood the hate for Fireman Ed either. I personally have no problem the guy. He looks to get the home crowd pumped up, and he is successful at doing so.
