mortreportReported for ESPN: Pennington torn capsule in throwing shldr. Expected out for year with second opinion next. Sad. Good year in 2008 for Chad, but with his contract up in Miami, time for him to move on.
Honestly, that sucks. I don't hate the guy as much as others do. He tried, his arm just failed him. That really sounds career ending to me. But I am no doctor. Another shoulder surgery?
Pennington Lost for the Year http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4512011 Maybe this is it for his career too.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4512011 Miami Dolphins quarterback Chad Pennington has been initially diagnosed with a torn capsule in his throwing shoulder and the Dolphins expect him to miss the rest of the season, sources familiar with the injury he suffered Sunday told ESPN Senior NFL Analyst Chris Mortensen. Pennington will seek a second opinion from orthopedic specialist Dr. James Andrews, who has performed two shoulder surgeries on the quarterback. Pennington underwent tests Monday on his right shoulder, which he hurt early in the third quarter of Sunday's 23-13 loss at San Diego. He missed the rest of the game, and coach Tony Sparano said he didn't know how long Pennington will be sidelined. Pennington has already had surgery on the same shoulder in 2004 and 2005. Chad Henne, who went 10 for 19 for 92 yards with an interception, will likely make his first NFL start Sunday when the winless Dolphins play host to Buffalo. "We're going to have to go out there with Henne, who is a lot less experienced," tight end Anthony Fasano said. "There is definitely going to be a learning curve for Henne. He can learn as much as he wants in a classroom, but until he's out on the field, in-game experience he's not going to learn. "But we have a lot of faith in Chad. He's a smart guy, a great leader and fun to play with. We're just going to have to move on." A second-round draft choice in 2008, Henne has been considered Pennington's heir apparent for more than a year. The challenge for the offense will be to develop a chemistry with Henne, receiver Greg Camarillo said. "Chad [Pennington] is our leader," Camarillo said. "Any injury to him is an injury to our offense. But it's also an opportunity for Henne to step up. We've got faith in his quarterbacking abilities. It's time for him to show it off." The score was 3-all when Pennington was hurt on a hit by linebacker Kevin Burnett as he threw a pass. The injury appeared to occur with the contact, which caught Pennington in an awkward position, rather than when he hit the ground, Sparano said. "Kind of a weird-looking deal," Sparano said. Linebacker Joey Porter, nursing a sore right hamstring, also was unable to finish the game because the muscle tightened. Sparano said Porter will be further evaluated this week. The injuries are another blow for a team rapidly regressing after a great leap forward in 2008, when the Dolphins improved their victory total by 10 games and won the AFC East. Now they're 0-3, and only three teams since 1990 have gone to the playoffs after such a slow start. Sparano said lineup changes are possible. "I told this team yesterday, it's not OK to be 0-3," he said. "It's not acceptable. If there's a place where we can shake some things up, we will." Information ESPN Senior NFL Analyst Chris Mortensen and from The Associated Press was used in this report.
He could come back and win his 3rd comeback player of the year award...geez He wont be able to pick up that ball from his right hand. But waht exactly has caused his injury???, it looks like his arm gave out
I feel terrible for Chad. He is a great player and a great person. Bad luck with that shoulder in his career. The big question is, are the Jets already at 5 wins instead of 3?
Sucks for Chad. Hope he can play again, but if he can't I sure as hell wouldn't mind if we signed him as our QB coach.
great player, great leader but man this has to be the writing on the wall for him for his career. I'll never forget his 2002 magical run
He made over 60 million dollars from us. In fact we are still paying him. I feel bad he is hurt but I could care less if he ever plays again. As long as they don't chop off his shoulder then he can retire very very rich.
yeah but there are guys who actually work hard to deserve that 60 million and then there are assholes like jamarcuss russell who get paid and quit life. Chad did not deserve this, but if it was fatass then no one would care. NO ONE. I do feel bad for chad cause hes a good guy and he worked hard
How old is Chad? 33 right? Third shoulder surgery for a 34 year old QB. Will anyone pick him up? Can't have an injury prone guy as your back up. Could be the end, which is sad. However, the Redskins could still use him.
It's all Jason Taylor's fault. He leaves and they make the playoffs. He comes back and their QB goes down. 0-3.
it would suck for him if it's career ending...and it probably is but on the bright side i can start wearing my pennington jersey again:up:
I was watching the replays of it last night and it didn't look like much of a hit to be honest... he got hit and fell down. Looked pretty normal, but I guess when you have shoulder with as much rebuilding as he's had on it, it won't take a lot to beat it back up. I know the guy loves the game, but with as much time as he has had to spend in rehab with something I don't know how he continues to do it. I think by now he'd want to stop getting beat on.
