Oh, I understand that completely. People's perceptions of this year's team are always based on what they did last year, the number of SBs they've won, etc. I understand how people get into that.

I'm just saying that from my perspective as a Jets fan, I'm happy with what we look like THIS YEAR, which is all that matters to me. And I particularly like what I've seen against the opponents we've played. I wouldn't feel as good about the Jets' chances had we won the three games the Giants have won.

Now, were I a Giants fan, I'm quite sure I'd be feeling pretty good sitting at 3-0 also, although the level of opponents is clearly not the same as the three we defeated. I think Ollie's entire point is that the Giants may be overrated right now whereas the Jets are still under the radar and underrated. At least that's the perception you get if you listen to Francessa go on and on about the NY Giants (when he's not talking baseball, that is).

Fatcesa was nailing it into Jets fans head that don't think Sanchez is going to come in and be Ryan or Flacco.

    Now what Fatcesa?

Interesting observation and a gutsy call... and you may be right! I think the jury is still out and we need to see Pace on the field for 2-3 games before we can "rank" him at all. I have to say that we've got some defensive players that are absolutely stealing the show right now.

We haven't seen Pace for even one play yet this year in Ryan's defense. I think you will change your mind after we do. Tannenbaum signed him because of what he was. Unfortunately Mangini had no clue how to use him, Ryan does.

The bottom line is, if everyone can stay reasonably healthy, this is going to be one unbelievable defense by the time January rolls around. Maybe I'm going out on a limb, but this group has the potential to be one of the greatest (if not the greatest) all-around defensive teams the Jets have ever put on the field, NY Sack Exchange included.

Pace has never been a big time pass rusher, he's a quality pass rusher and probably the best we have individually but he's never been close to a big time pass rusher. If Rex turns him into that i'll change my mind. I like Calvin, I think he's really good. it's not a knock on him that he may not crack the top 5 on our D we just have alot of big time defensive players.

The fact that we're even arguing whether Pace is our best defensive player or not speaks volumes about how good this defense is and how much better they may become.

We have some talent on D. I laihged all offseason at rival fans saying we didn't have ray lewis, Ed reed, Terrell Suggs, etc... and while that is true I knew we had excellent talent on D w/ a beast in the middle of the DL, a shutdown corner, a top S, david Harris was playing hurt last year but was great as a rookie. I didn't think we'd be playing this well this soon but I knew we had the talent.

I just think he will be lining up at multiple positions and probably at a different one on each play. Sort of what they did with LT back in the day. He will be a free canon. He has size and speed and will be nearly impossible to cover on every down. Hell, Ryan even has Jenkins playing LB 3 or 4 times a game.

All true, but the missing ingredient was Rex Ryan. Imagine this defense coached by Eric Mangini. It's night and day.

So I think we're extremely fortunate to be in this place at this time... the timing, I'm saying, with having Rex Ryan here at the same time as all this talent. I have a feeling we amy have only seen the tip of the iceberg. This crew is going to destroy some very good teams this year and keep us in the hunt for the VLT right up to the very end.

All we have to do now is figure out a way to be the "run first, smash-mouth offense" Ryan thought we'd be. The only fly in the ointment for me right now is still the inexlicable enemic YPC that Jones is generating. Maybe it's time to introduce Shonn Greene to the NFL.

Here's what I meant to quote:

Oops... sorry Don and Junc. I meant to quote and highlight JUNC's post, not Don's post, in my reply (#147). See above edit.

    HAH.

    http://jetnation.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1385597&postcount=5 :)

The thing I hate about this guy is that when he's finally painted into a corner, he'll do a little backwards shuffle because he HAS to. You can actually see the look of constipation on his face. He hates the Jets, and so did his old weasel sidekick, Russo. He wants the Jets to fail just so he can say 'I told you so'.

I haven't listened today, but I'm sure he's doing his usual. And here's another thing about this guy as to the Jets. It's screamingly typical. I flip on the car radio the day after the San Diego loss to the Jets in the 2004 PO's. Football talk, right? Wrong. There he was talking about - you guessed it - SPRING TRAINING AND THE YANKEES BULLPEN. Are you kidding me?! What an a-hole.

First off, Francesa big time knows the game.... If some of you read some of the stuff you post, it's not even a comparison between what he knows and what some on this site know. That being said, he was a little down on Scott's comments after the game and the way Sanchez holds the ball, which led to a couple of fumbles. That was it. He's given the Jets a ton of credit the past couple of weeks.

watched him last night - he made the following statements: Bart Scott should keep his mouth shut, who does he think he is talking like that, Mark Sanchez has a major issue putting the ball on the floor, the Jets got lucky and should have lost

I like that Scott talks and shows some attitude - they were called out this week and answered when it mattered, Sanchez had issues with the wet ball and I wouldn't call it a major problem, turnovers happened for both teams - the Jets were able to capitalize and get 3 TDs on their red zone possessions - that isn't luck

Bullshit -if you tell me Fatcessa knows horse racing or even Yankee baseball I'll agree - football I'm not buying. He's a Jet/Met hating , name dropping piece of shit.

You never hear him evaluate or dissect a football game , all his points usually revolve around off the field topics - like Bart Scott talking. And when he makes a point it's usually something obvious - like Sanchez holding the ball with one hand when he was stripped for a fumble.

He had a pretty good interview with Jeff Fisher Sunday morning before the game. I'm not a big fan of he's opinions, but I do feel if you listen to him Sunday mornings when he is interviewing either Sims or an NFL HC, he shows pretty good knowledge of the game for a guy who isn't an ex player.

He knows football. Just being around someone like parcells as much as he's been it's hard not to know more football than the average fan. He gets a hard time on here b/c certain fans don't like his opinions but he knows football.

Just because he slobbered over Parcells doesn't mean he knows football. Also, its easy to sound more intelligent for an interview , when you've had your staff pulling up all the information for you in advance. When people call in on his show and put him on the spot he either just hangs up or stammers , he can't argue the x/o's of football w/o rehearsed information.
