http://www.newyorkjets.com/news/multimedia/video/1730-9-14-09-coach-ryan-press-conference Unfortunately I cant find a transcript of the press conference, sorry. He coined a nickname for Sanchez. Sanchize I like it.
Thanks for posting that this was up. A transcript usually takes a little while to show up. Game balls to Sanchez, Jones, Harris, and Revis. Individual praise for Westerman and Sheppard. The 2nd question was, of course, about Gholston. I was impressed with the response. He said it was an up and down performance for the Ghost. He assisted on getting pressure on the QB, but Ryan wants something that we've all been noticing. He wants to see Gholston get more hits in, even if a guy is already headed to the ground. The guy pulls up too often to let others finish the tackle. With Ryan's emphasis on team defense, he said he wants Vernon to "seek out a bit of fabric, even" and put a hit on.
Already thought of in April, but nice to know the organization is paying attention. I'm still partial to Sancho.
My favorite answer so far came in reference to the Pats game: "They're better than us in two areas that we know of. Head coach and quarterback." This followed a question on the receivers in which he basically said that our receivers played well and excelled particularly in YAC and blocking, so it was nice (though amusing) that he held them off the list vs. New England.
Yeah, I liked how frank he was in regards to Vernon. It's not all a love fest like it was in the pre-season, and his criticism is spot-on. Mangini would've said "we seen some things that we like out of everybody, and there are some things we need to improve on, that we will improve on, blah, blah, blah."
That was interesting what he said about the Pats. "They're better than us at two spots, for sure- head coach and quarterback. But we'll see who's got the better team." I ragged on somebody two years ago for starting a thread about Mangini, and how much his pressers sucked. I ragged on him, hard, as did many others. But I gotta admit, I like looking forward to what our coach has to say.
Yeah, I think that'll lead to a nice bond between the two of them. Two rookies cutting their teeth in the toughest town in sports, they both know they're ready and they just need to prove it.
man, I had Sanchise as my favebook status when he signed. It's so June. Sanchez the Manchez is what's happening now.
I can't sit and wait for that whole thing to play through. Not unless and until I can be assured that there will be all sorts of cool Hermisms. If there's no transcript, it never happened.
I caught this interview on the drive home. Kay sucks at interviews. I wish Francesa did these on Mondays. I love Rex though. I have no doubt the Jets will give the pats everything they got!
I am fascinated by what Rex Ryan said about him not ever showing much of the defense during the preseason. I didn't realize coaches hid that much of their scheme during the preseason games. This is an often overlooked point that explains why trying to predict what will happen in the regular season based on what transpired in the preseason is utterly pointless.
i think he'll be disappointed with our crowd noise. just from listening on TV it always seems like we have one of the quietest crowds. opening day, 1-0 start, excited fans, they better come out and fill the stadium and more importantly be "LOUD"
I'm looking forward to seeing how the fans respond... I'll be there yelling my lungs out, but I have a feeling we'll see a lot of Pats fans in the stadium (again) and well, we haven't exactly done a great job creating an intimidating atmosphere in recent years. But with this D, maybe this will be a turning point... one can hope...
