was a 1 man show ...a huge reason for holding to under 40 yds rushing that chuck move...Gdamn he threw that O-lineman like a ragdoll !
Enough props can not be given to the big man. He is a dominant player and we are very lucky to have him (talk about a great trade on our part!). The same problem remains that the coaching staff needs to keep him healthy. He is absolutely the key to the defense.
If he stays healthy the Jet's D will win some games this year. I have never seen a Jet's defensive lineman be as dominant as he has in the games when he is healthy. Even Klecko wasn't that type of dominant player in the middle.
We just gotta hope he keeps it up the entire season, and doesn't slow down like he did a little bit last year down the stretch. But yeah, I agree, he's a beast.
if someone can upload a video of that play where he threw the center out of his way with his left arm that would be awesome.
I think he's a different type of player than Ted Washington. The scary thing about Jenkins is that he's actually pretty agile and good at passrushing in addition to his huge size and power. He's the textbook definition of BEAST.
He got some serious rest during the second series. Smart. I'd rather have him on the field with some pep in the fourth quarter than watch him flame out in the first half. I like how Atlanta utilized Abraham last year and I think we should treat Jenkins similarly. Keep him rested, keep him fresh, and then turn him loose when we need him.
Washington used to eat up a double-team on every passing down when he rushed. You literally never saw him with less than the center and a guard on him. What surprised me today was how often the Texans had only one guy on Jenkins in pass protection. You just can't do that. They lost this game because they could not handle Jenkins up the middle with a couple of linebackers coming in on his shoulders. They literally did not manage that the whole game and the Jets were doing it from early in the game.
The wear and tear on Jenkins shouldn't be as bad this year compared to last year... We use alot more 4-3, and 46 which takes less of a toll on the NT.
Jenkins is "the straw that stirs the drink". Without him, the Defense cannot be anything close to what it was today. Heck, we saw what happened last year in Mangini's piss poor defense what it was like when Kris was injured/ on the sidelines. He is the Defensive MVP, even with Harris & Scott performing very well.
This is a very good point. The Jets defense wouldn't collapse this year if he was gone because it's a much better hybrid 3-4/4-3 than the junk Mangini pushed on us for 3 years. That said if Jenkins is in the middle it is a top 10 defense and if he is not it's probably more like high teens.
Yeah that was sick when Jenkins backed up into ILB position and Scott and Harris took his place, too bad the play didn't work out because of a WR screen but it could have, another half second in Schaub's hand and Jenkins would've been all over him.
He's not quite the unmoveable object Washington was..but he's an even better penetrator and pass rusher. He's one of the most dominating interior D-linemen I have ever seen....the only guy I can truly think of as a comparision is William Perry; Who consequently erupted under a defensive coordinator who just so happens to be our head coach's father and mentor
