Started with high percentage passes to get Sanchez comfortable then started going downfield. Run game wasn't working so they used misidrection to create space. This was probably the best called game of his Jet career. Big kudos to Schottenheimer.
Schotty has the ability to to this every week. That's why I get so pissed when I see a retarded game called. Hopefully it was Mangini. Schotty 1 Mangini 0
I loved the play calling. It's great to see how comfortable Sanchez is with the playbook and how comfortable Schotty is with Sanchez running it. The play calls on third down last year would have been: draw, draw, dive, draw, punt.
Anyone get a chance to see Mangini on the Cleveland sideline with his hands on his hips and that clueless, irritated look on his face while he slowly chomps on his gum?
I feel like I have to give Schottenheimer a lot of credit because I was really ripping on him in the first quarter for running iso after iso for no gain on first down. He really did end up calling a great game though. The first drive of the second half was particularly beautifully scripted. Houston was off-balance all day, and Schotty knew just which buttons to push (counterpunching a big blitz with his first fly to the end zone is a good example.) Also impressive was Sanchez's command of the playbook. Schotty and Ryan definitely didn't treat him with the kid gloves--I think a lot of the "Mangini holding Schotty back" stuff should actually be chalked up to Favre knowing only half the playbook.
Absolutely not. We couldn't run the ball at ALL! until the 4th. and c'mon, REX RYAN will not Let off the pedal, that's why I love the guy!
The Texans were set up for the run daring Sanchez/Shotty to beat them thru the air and thet did....I love it. Go for the jugular!!!
Jones was averaging like 1 ypc up until the 4th quarter.. I think Schotty was clearly making the right calls there.
I agree he called a nice game, and I feel good with him along with Callahan providing guidance for an offense that is likely to see some shaky stretches during the season. I was a little vexed that he still had Sanchez in there throwing at the beginning of the 4th. Easy to point out after a turnover that went back for a goofy TD, but I think that at that point, Houston's O was not going to be able to come back, just run up the gut, kill the clock, and solidify a pristine debut for your rookie QB. Not such a grave sin in context, though. Looking forward to what he brings to the Pats game
