I agree. once you obtain a player, even by trade, he is your player and there is no further obligation by the other team. the agreement was between the Pats and the Raiders for the rights to Seymour. the Pats gave them those rights, and with those rights include the risk of a player not reporting. too bad Raiders, but it won't stop them from trying.
He will eventually show or he will retire. Those are his only options. If he sits out the entire year his contract then rolls over and is the contract for next year.
surely the raiders asked for permission to and then talked to seymour to see if he would sign an extenion and was willing to play for them before coughing up a first.right?
This is the funniest fucking shit I have ever seen! Classic Al Davis! Well, classic SENILE Al Davis, in any event! I love it!!!
as much as I hate Belichick, I'd love to hear him say if the Raiders wanted the Pats to hold Seymour's hand to the bus stop and make sure he got to Oakland, they should have included that in the negotiations.
The Pats can't lose in this IMO. If Seymour shows up, they get the pick. If he doesn't and the trade is rescinded, they get their pro bowl DE back. Only a retirement AND the trade being rescinded would hurt them. That is quite unlikely. He wants another big payday.
I've despised Al Davis and the Raiders for far longer than I've despised Bill Belichek and the Patriots. Still, to me this feels like some unscrupulous boilerroom hack fleecing a doddering elderly widow out of all her money. Its just not right.
Do you think Seymour would want to go back to the Pats after this? I know he doesn't want to go to the Raiders, but if i were him, I'd be pissed at the Pats too.
You guys miss the point -- the player has to pass the physical to complete the trade. The deal is not completed yet.... I believe Traiders can just return him to Pats.
Maybe I'm just to blinded by my Pats glasses, but if Seymour doesn't show I don't think Oakland deserves the pick back at all. The only way the trade can be voided is if he "fails" his physical, and since his health is not an issue it would seem like some sort of fraud to fail him on a physical when he is perfectly fine. If they are too fucking stupid to contact the player and see if he's okay with it before hand , that's their own problem. He won't ever play for the Pats again. I'm 99.9999% sure of it. If he does it will be when he's old and washed up and decides he wants one more ring. I'm making some assumptions here, but given the way he has backpedaled and iis understandably pissed at the prospect of playing in Oakland, it seems fair enough to assume his relationship with the organization is too damaged for him to ever return. And if the Pats never get to have their piece back, why should Oakland? I'm dead serious when I say I could see him signing with the Jets out of spite in a heart beat if given the opportunity. Hahahaha
So in an effort to prevent him from indefinitely holding out they are threatening to suspend him. Brilliant.
when this is all said and done the raiders are gonna give up a first round picks for a 30 year old 3-4 de to play in 14 games.probably with less than max effort.
