This new team is so much more enjoyable to be a fan compared to any Jets team I can remember. If you compared last years press confrences to this year with Rex they are night and day. Granted he could just stand there and scratch himself and still get laughs either way they are fun to watch and he has no problem talking about anything. We have a defense that we can believe in, mostly because of Rex and what he can do with the talent we have. Also there is a real sense of optimism when it comes to the Jets now. People know we are a rising team and one to look out for. This is true because we have Sanchez leading the team for years to come (among other young stars like Revis and Harris.)

Last year was a short term excitement and this time it feels real and perminent. We all know we are not going to have a dominating team every Sunday this year but we have one that is only going to be getting better. And who knows maybe we can still make the playoffs if everything goes right. I am really happy with the direction the team is going and Woody and Tanny due deserve credit from turning, atleast the attitude around, if not the whole organization. We have a real football coach that is in the business of kicking ass and taking names and a QB that has all the fixings for a Franchise QB.

I know that we have no idea how it will all turn out but I like where it is going none the less. And I hope this change doesn't just affect the team but also the fans. I hope we stop the pesimistic "same old jets" attitude and start to believe in our team no matter what! Lets go JETS!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure what the point of this thread is so I figured I would comment. I don't understand any negativity about this team as we start the season. The Jets have a good team and a good new coach. If the team continues to improve and work together - anything is possible. There is no reason not to be optimistic. All teams face challenges and obstacles. The Jets have some of the best personnel and coaches in the NFL and there is alot of potential here for shock alot of so called experts.

As for the prospects of hearing much SOJ this year, I do like the notion that we seem to be looking at a team that can be built upon:

I and I think pretty much all Jet fans like the replacement of Mangini with Ryan. Ryan is no sure thing, of course, but Mangini clearly ran out of gas here. He had to go. And Sutton. Keeping Schott? I'm not so sure about that one, but overall, the CS is much more confidence inspiring.

However you felt about Favre coming here last year, it was a short term thing. It did nothing to make Clemens better, either. Drafting Sanchez at least gives hope the Jets may have a good Qb for the foreseeable future.

The OL is a mixed bag in terms of longevity, but Mangold should be there for years to come, and Ferguson is quietly if slowly improving. Keller has much upside, but imo is still not a proven commodity.

The D has several good players, but not all will be here for the next few years. Still, Revis, Rhodes and Harris are great young players.

So yeah, I think we can be optimistic about the next few years.

This year in particular, though? Not so much.

Looking at the first part of our season: opponents, suspended players, rookie coach and QB, young WR's, new defensive system, I expect nothing more than a work in progress.....but for the last part, if things start to gel and we finish the season strong, I will be very optimistic and chalk this up to a good season.

I just never liked Manginas aura of inadequacy. Oh we have to hide plays because other teams might see it. Oh we have to hide injuries because other teams might beat us up. Oh we have to emulate the pats because we're not good enough on our own. Oh we have to sign their players so we can get the one up on them. It all reeks of the Jets not being good enough to win without these gimmicks.

I love Rex because he says Fuck it. This is what were going to do and we are going to do it well. We will execute and keep coming at you til one of us is dead. I dare you to beat us.

Mangini was a pussy and the whole team had an aura of being pussies.

This year we have swagger, not cockiness, swagger. We give 100% and we will beat you. .

Teams don't always improve as the season progresses, quite obviously. The major reason why is injuries. I think most here would agree that the Jets seem more exposed than usual to the injury bug due to lack of depth throughout the roster.

    Mangold
    Ferguson
    Keller
    Cotchery
    Washington
    Jenkins
    Revis
    Rhodes
    Scott
    Harris
    Leonhard

If any of those players goes down, the Jets have a problem. Multiples from that list? Could get ugly real fast. The concern is that could balance out the improvements you expect to see.

Bullshit. Injuries are part of the game. Players have to step up and make plays. No fng excuses - its a loser's mentality.

injuries are apart of the game.

but when the Ravens have 5 DLs they rotate and nothing changes and the Jets have no rotation at all, that is the difference between the two franchises.

There are no players anyone can confidently say they will pick up where an injured player left off. Its not pessimism its reality.

Pessimism is saying that we are bound for an injury plagued season and we are going 4-12.

Meh.. I agree with most of that, but not all. I kinda like our Safety/LB/RB depth. I'm not to worried about those area's. Defensive line and Offensive line depth scare the shit out of me though. Receiver depth bothers me too.

    No rotation?

Jenkins, Ellis, Douglas, Green, DeVito, Pouha, and Pitouitoua constitute no rotation?

    apples and oranges, Edge.

I think Mick was trying to say that the Ravens rotation is much more effective than ours. When the Ravens lose a player out of that rotation....they still see comparable results as if nobody was injured in the first place.

The Jets on the other hand....lose Jenkins....and our defense takes a nose dive.

I thought the first string D looked solid without Jenkins this preseason... and that was without even blitzing all that much.

hmmm...the defense still gave up 23, 24, and 25 points respectively....our defense will have to be significantly better if the franchise's goal is to lean on the defense (and the run game) for this season.

The defense faced "vanilla plays" from opposing offenses too.....

How many of those points were to turnover (Ravens game)... how many of those points were to scrub units (Giants game)... to just say they gave up those amount of points and ignore the circumstances surrounding them are very short sighted.
