http://myespn.go.com/blogs/afcwest/0-3-2731/Interesting-comments-out-of-Oakland--Denver.html Interesting comments out of Oakland, Denver August 30, 2009 3:21 PM Posted by ESPN.com's Bill Williamson The only thing explosive about the Oakland Raiders on Saturday were the comments after a 45-7 thrashing at the hands of the New Orleans Saints: Check out what new defensive end Greg Ellis had to say: "Guys, you can't stay out all night. Can't expect to come in here and just turn it on," Ellis said. "This isn't high school or college football. This is the best of the best in the NFL. So you've got to do those small things that you maybe didn't have to do in college." Ellis has been a Raider for just two months after being cut by Dallas. Cleary, he isn't impressed by the effort of his new teammates. This is what coach Tom Cable had to say: "Obviously, I'm embarrassed by that effort." Look, it's just the preseason. This is not the end of the world for Oakland. But it has to be addressed. Maybe it's a good thing for this to happen to the Raiders. Now they know they have to change their ways before the season starts. This team needs a big do over. But at least it has time to do it. In Denver, owner Pat Bowlen appears to realize his team will be challenged this season. "I'm more interested than I can remember to see this game coming up," Broncos owner Pat Bowlen told the Denver Post about Sunday night's game against Chicago and former Denver quarterback Jay Cutler. ... "Because that's an important preseason game for us. We have a very tough schedule, in my mind. At least, that's the way it looks in August. We've got our work cut out for us, let's face it." Bowlen doesn't appear to be bubbling over with confidence, does he?
P.J. Hill looked pretty good in the game. He wasn't drafted primarily due to injury issues, but he could get some spot duty in NO this year and be of help.
They are my team for the TGG league and play the exact same way when I'm behind the controls , talk about art imitating real life, or is that the other way around?
See Browning Nagle and Ryan leaf. Thats all you need to know about the preseason. I will wait for the real season. Just like Jets would be 0-3 if not for the scrubs that won't be around come the regualr season.
LMao. wrong again. Go check the 2009 standings. 0-0 just like everyone else. Didn't the lions go 4-0 in the preseason last year. How did they do in the regular season.0-16 Wow Im devasted raiders got crushed in the preseason. Better it happens now than come Monday night against the Chargers.
I've got your bitch, Darren McFadden, on my fantasy team. That shmuck better light it up this year, Jeaux...... I'm not very encouraged on his preseason performances thus far.
Wow the Raiders running backs rushed the football four times last night. They learned their lesson last year in a meaniless preseason game when their Fb was lost for the season- Oren oneal. That was a big blow to their running game. Expect to see alot of two te's formations on the run downs . (especially early until Schilens gets healthy and walker -gets up to speed) Rookie TE Brandon Meyer who was supposed to be a great blocker, has shown very very good receiving skills. Gives the Raiders two REal TEs.(that can both block and recieve) Also Raiders didn't run any of the running plays there running back are the most effective running. Yea Im devasted by this loss. I will say this Sean payton- Up 38 points in a preseason game and you keep going for it on fourth down. Al Davis and the Raiders won't forget. See The Titans in 2002 who destroyed the Raiders 38-0 in the third preseason game on national Tv. Raiders not only beat them in the regular season but destroyed them in Afc Championship game. Next time Aint's raider players will be sober.
dude, javon walker is NEVER going to get up to speed. forget about it. if i was a coach, in the 3rd preseason game, the most important, i would try to get the RB's the ball where they would be most effective. i guess cable and crew abandoned the whole "go with what works" approach..
Alot Of people that have seen javon Walker working out, say he there choice for comeback player of the year. These are the same people who were Javon walker biggest critics. Raiders know what they have at RB and thats there bread and butter. Its all about getting their passing game up to speed. Broke in two rookie starters last night(Dhb and Louis Murphy) The numbers were nice Louis murphy putup , but he didn't play a very good game last night. Too many big drops and fumbles. This kid dosen't seem to make the same mistake twice. So I expect this to be abberation.
MR Davis Mind is as sharp as it ever been. His body might be breaking down but don't you be fool he still a football genius.
Granted, the Raiders have a good running back group...no doubt. Let's see if their O-Lineman (not a strenght ) can pave the way for them....I have my doubts...and don't give me the 2 TE crap.....that isn't going to help DA Raiders run consistently. Plus, The Raider's run defense sucks......they better stop the run or it will be a long season. Gameplan to beat the Raiders..... run the ball...end of story.
Going to take a couple weeks(get RT Khalif barnes back) and still like them to upgrade RG . Oline will be fine. You kidding you have two TEs that can block and recieve, how can that not improve the running game. Gives them too dangerous options in the pasing game. Raiders biggest problem stopping the run hasn't been the DT, (they aren't getting gashed in the middle) but on the perimeter de's. Trevor scott is just too small right now to hold up against the run. I would like to look at Desmond Bryant 6'5 290 at De (been getting better and better at DT) and Matt Shaughnessy(comes back this week and looks more stout on the perimeter) Right Now this is how Raiders been lining up on Dline. LDE Greg ellis LDt Gerard warren RT Tom Kelly RDe Trevor Scott MY Dline would be LDE Desmond Bryant 6'5 290 / W Joseph 6'5 310 LDT Gerard warren 6'4 335 RDt tom Kelly 6'6 305 RDE greg Ellis. I think Mike Mitchell(still recovering from hamstring strain) will be hugh against the run. HE has great instincts and He just destroys anything he hits. Last expect the raiders to do alot of run blitzes. (they been holding back this preseason) Btw Here my Two Te formation TE zach Miller 6'5 255 and Brandon Meyer 6'4 250 (both can block and catch) DHB 6'2 210 oR louis Murphy to stretch the field. Two Rbs oF M Bush 6'1 245 and Darren Mcfadden 6'2 217 in the backfield together. D Mcfadden will move outside occasionally right before the snap. (creating a hugh disadvantage fore a defense) M Bush as single Rb.
With that I agree.....John Marshall will be more aggresive than Rob Ryan. I truly believe Rob Ryan is one of the most overrated defensive coaches in the NFL and it's a good move he's in Cleveland. You still need to address the running game........275 yards, even pre-season vs SF is terrible. The Raiders have no where to go but up....32 against the run (211) and 32 (399) in total yards allowed in 2008 isn't going to cut it.
The 49ers ran the same play over and over. Raiders weren't victimized inside but outside against both De's ellis and Trevor scott.(both couldn't hold the point of attack and lost containment outside. I don't expect to see Trevor scott at RDE on opening night, against marcus Mcneill. He will eat him up. Mike singletary didn't do his team any justice that night(why not work something they need work on) He did a hugh favor to the Raiders as the players saw what went wrong.(alot of film) This is fixable as I would start two Bigger Des than ellis and Scott. Use the lightning quick Lbs on blitzes to pressure the Qb. Last point I( would get on the phone with Mangini. Offer them your third rounder for DT/DE Corey Williams whose a better fit in 4-3 than the 3-4. Mangini has him on the trade block.
As expected with Jeaux... Raiders getting blown out is all part of the plan. Oakland Raiders 2009 16-0 Super Bowl Champions.
What an insult that is to the Al Davis of old. And I thought you liked the guy. The Raiders would be better off at this point if their decisions were being made by a sandwich.
Working out..as in..gym shorts? The passing game will always be a little behind speed wise until Russell realizes that being a starting NFL QB isn't a given right. There's only 32 on the planet, take it a little more seriously.
Duhh, the Raiders know - just like everyone else - you don't play yer starters for the most of the game until the 4th game of the Preseason. Ca'mon, people, get with the program...
