Rex IS entertaining. Pats and Jets have a rivalry that tends to level the playing field. Jets usually play over their heads and Pats play down to Jets level in one game each year. BB isn't a rah-rah coach. He's cerebral and tries to maintain a non-selfish style of play. No beating of chests and trash talking ( Charger's game @ SD was an anomoly with a couple of players dancing on the Charger logo midfield after the win).

Will be an exciting couple of games as it usually is. Thinking that a Jet player will put TB back on crutches is actually funny. Grow up and enjoy a great rivalry.

Lets hope Rex doesn't end up being Humpty Dumpty

Yea, and you aren't trash talking either.

  3. I'd normally agree...but I think rex is trying to get a point across early. He wants this team to have a long term no fear, take-on-all attitude w/ some swagger. The best way to do that is to throw his neck out there, against our # 1 divisional rival.

Just a quick question. Do any of you guys get upset before a title fight when the challenger says he's going to kick the champ's ass and take his title?

I don't see what the big deal is, he didn't say anything bad about Belichick, gave him proper respect, he just isn't intimidated by him. Good. Maybe Mangini was, even though he beat him twice, I feel better over the long haul going aganst him with Rex. Just a gut feeling this early in the...process.

The statement about the Pats playing down to the Jets level and the term "rivalry" are in direct contradiction to one another.

BB is great but lets not forget what he did before Brady. Maybe what MC did last year was more MC than we care to admit to ourselves? Wes Welker? Randy Moss? Again, I'm not taking anything away from the guy, but the Pats are a beatable team, so spare me the patronizing BS.

You have to give Belichick credit, he was considered a genius as a DC even before New England, a lot of people were surprised he wasn't a great head coach the first time around. I agree Brady has made his career, when you consider he was 5-13 there with Bledsoe, but it's not like Belichick can't coach, last year proved that further.

But having said that, I'm glad we've got a defensive mastermind of our own who is his own guy, not a Belichick knock-off trying to beat his teacher with less talent on the field. That's a recipe for finishing second at best.

    Yeah

Matt Cassel is the next TB.

Maybe BB put Cassel in position to play to his strengths. He looked like crap in TC. Get him out from under center and he blossomed.

Don't forget that fact that Cassel won those games with a decimated
Patriot squad. (Thomas,Harrison,Maroney,Warren,Neal,Kaczur,Seymour,Morris all missed games or were IR.)

    Patronizing? Don't be so sensitive.

Sensitive? I've had steaks that rubbed me in the wrong direction, worse than that.

Of course he put him in position to succeed, there's no secret there.

But don't you find it at least interesting that BB was widely viewed as a horrendous HC for good reason?

It's amazing, he calls a good game, implements a decent system and gets a super power like TB for next to nothing and suddenly everyone from TB and above is considered to be a god.

One hit by Moe Lewis made BB what he is today. One hit.

Belichick was considered a shitty head coach because his people skills are absolutely horrid. To put it simply, he's a dick. It's the reason I was glad he took off rather than take the Jets job.

20/20 hindsight tells me I was completely wrong though. Who the hell needs to be a nice guy? Herm was a nice guy. Mangini wasn't, but he was also a dumbass. Belichick is a great coach. He's a genius football mind who capitalizes on his team's strengths (which he creates and bolsters himself through the draft) and makes adjustments in-game to maximize results.

I despise the guy, but I respect him as a football coach.

The amount of people in this thread wanting to put their tail between their legs and roll over quietly to NE makes me sick. What happened to your balls? I'd rather say I'm going to beat someone and lose, than go in expecting to lose.

I thought he was considered a shitty coach because of his w-l record.

As far as I remember, his record was always attributed to the fact that his players hated him. Even as a DC his players couldn't stand him.

Ok so suddenly after Lewis knocked Dreadsoe out, the players started to like him? He was 5-11 the year before on the same team.

You lose all the time and it's difficult to gain respect. You win and your players will follow willingly. BB KNOWS how to win.

Rex has his players respect because of what he did with the Ravens D. Anything else is just media hype. Rex is perfect for the NY media, as long as he wins. If he starts a long losing streak, unlikely unless he gets alot of key injuries, it will be under the bus time. This is his honeymoon year so I suspect anything over 8 wins will be a positive year for him. Next year is when the Sanchez crowd will expect a playoff appearance for the Jets.

Wait, I thought the reason Belichick had success is that he is a lying cheater who stole victories?

New York is always this way though. When you're the shiny new guy, everyone loves you. After that, as long as you're performing, everyone loves you. If you don't perform, they hate you. That's just how it goes.

It doesn't matter what he says, these things will happen regardless.

He's definitely in for something he better be prepared for, that's for sure. In fact, he better hope he's a better HC than his father.
