Montana. 3 Super Bowl MVP's over the course of basically an entire decade ('81-'89). Marino had better stats but that's mostly because they never had a running game.
Montana knew how to hand the ball off. He also knew how to do play-action. I remember seeing Marino try to play-action. It looked like this cat:
That would be wrong to assume, kind sir. I've seen Montana pass to Roger Craig behind the line of scrimmage for some big gains. I've seen short dink passes go to Jerry Rice and John Taylor for some long gains. IMHO, it's Marino all the way!
Montana based on seeing them both play. Marino's stats make him seem better than he actually was. Not that Marino wasn't a great QB mind you,he was, but his stats are inflated. I would take Montana in a big game any day of the week and twice on the weekends...
Bill Walsh was way better than Don Shula at coaching talent. Both great for different reasons. Hard to believe if you put Marino on the Walsh SB teams he wouldn't have won but you have to give Montana his due. For my money Staubach was the best over all QB. It's all opinion they were a lot of great QB's who would have won or lost more SB's depending on the team and circumstances. Montana best quality was being relaxed in the big games and playing at a high level under pressure and making his team mates relax. Not an easy thing to do. Bradshaw was easily as good in the big games. Way under rated.
