NOTES: Ryan shot down an Internet report that the Jets were looking into dealing RB Thomas Jones(notes) to an NFC West team, saying it?s ?100 percent not true.? Jones sat out voluntary workouts in the offseason while seeking a restructured contract, leading to speculation he could be dealt. ?Shoot, I?m not going to trade that,? Ryan said. ?You know what I?m all about and this guy is huge in our plans. I?m not going to trade the running back who led the AFC in rushing. I would for three first-round picks and something like that, maybe. We ain?t dealing him. No way.? ? Ryan said the Jets signed K Parker Douglass because Jay Feely(notes) has a sore groin, but added that it?s not serious.
lol @ trading him for 3 first round picks you know damn well if somebody offered up 1 first rounder he would jump at it
saying "we ain't dealing him. no way" and "i'll trade him for 3 1st rounders" isn't upping the cost, its just diminishing interest especially when the coach has never even coached that player in a game
you're a steelers fan. I'd expect you to know Ryan's sarcasm from meeting his defenses twice a year or more for the last few years. and no shit if someone offers that you give up a 31 year old RB.
Yes great shout and we get another Vernon Gholston. These first round draft picks are always a sure thing...........
^Are you implying you wouldn't take an offered first round pick out of fear that we draft a bust? :drunk:
EXACTLY what I have been saying all off season and most of you guys have ripped me for it. TJ is a HUGE part of what we want to do, hes not going anywhere.
I'm saying Jones has been good value for us in his time here and I see another productive season behind the same line with more experience. At the moment we don't know how good we can be this season. Why weaken our running game for what would be a long term project that might not work out.
Because this will be TJ's last season with the NYJ, and the probability of Greene playing at the same level as the 31 yr old Jones this season is pretty good. It'd be in the best interest of the team to get something for him instead of outright cutting him at season's end.
I might be the ONLY one who is thinking this, but, I'm calling a smokescreen here. The rumor is he would be traded to an NFC West team, my guess would be Arizona. I'm thinking we trade Jones, while he still has value and get the WR we are really in need of...say Anquan Boldin...and let Leon earn his new up-coming contract and let Greene be our goal-line guy.
I thought smoke as well. If TJ is going to bring any value, it is going to be now, Boldin makes sense if the deal is right, and what would you expect Rex to say anyway with a fresh 4.5M/year counter offer just put on the table for Washington but not yet signed.
I don't think there's much meat to the rumor, but I would guess that Jones ended his holdout after a meeting where he requested to be traded to Seattle to play with his brother.
I doubt any trade occurs, but if they DO trade Jones and it is for anybody other than a wideout, I am going to puke.
I'm looking at Seattle's roster right now. I'm sure Housh will be the #1 WR, pretty much a no brainer here #2 WR might be contested in camp with Branch/Burleson and Deon Butler could even jump over one of them for #3 Their starting RB is Julius Jones and TJ Duckett is the backup! I'm really thinking now that is might just be Seattle. I'd take Burleson and a 4th rounder for Thomas Jones. I think that is something that really could be done...unless Rex is telling the truth.
i don't see a reason why the cards would do that trade considering they have tim hightower and just drafted beanie wells with their 1st rounder...unless beanie wells is still having health issues.
I'm putting my money on Thomas Jones going to the Arizona Cardinals for Early Doucet & a 4th rounder in 2010.
