    Where is Bart?

I haven't heard anything about Bart making plays. Ever since the pads went on his name has yet to be praised??? im the type that "don't beleive the hype!" right now he's a better hype man than Flava Flav. until his name starts ringing in my ears, he's no better than Gholston.

Good post. For me, and even after attending in person many times, the one thing about Training Camp is that you always walk away with no answers. Is the DEF that good or is the O that poor? (Or vice-versa).

I'm not comfortable with all the INTs I keep hearing about, but we've had them in many camps in the past too. It's not unusual for a rookie DB to ballhawk and try to showcase himself by taking a shot at it. You're always going to have that. But risk-taking Ballhawk hardly comes to mind when I think of Revis or Rhodes, and they've gotten their share of INTs in this year's camp too. And yet I haven't heard too much about pressure on the QBs, so what's up with the INTs?

Is the DEF that good or is the O that bad? We won't know. It's that simple. You could be standing right there at TC for hours and still not know the answer to that question. If our DEF is that good, we may have a season that MAYBE gets us into the playoffs somehow. If they're not as good as they look because they're up against a rudderless, WR-depleted, not-so-good-at-blocking, think-we're-smash-mouth-but-we're-really-not Offense, then we're in for a very long season.

I'm no expert but I tend to beleive what I see with my own eyes. The one day that I drove up to TC this year, I watched Wayne Hunter work with the TE's get a reps at TE with the 1st teams in 11 on 11 and he moved really well, has great hands from what I saw and caught a 15-20 yard pass against the first team offense. I think he will be our new blocking TE. At least that's my guess.

It's been 40+ years since we have been to a Super Bowl. We are on our umpteenth HC. The time for panic was a few decades ago.

why would anybody panic about the Jets? Just root for the team and enjoy the season. No reason to freak out. LOL

This question addresses the heart of the matter. I don't mind putting up with rebuilding if I see a foundation. Obviously the QB position is a huge part of any foundation... the Mannings, Tom Brady and now even Joe Flacco come to mind... something to build off of.

We fiddle-fucked around with Pennington for far too many years, bringing in the likes of Jay Fiedler, for God's sake, for our cockamamie "open QB competitions," which only tended to stifle the likes of a Kellen Clemens and Cliff Ratner and deny them legit experience, and then further cripple our QB foundation-building by bringing in Brett Fucking Favre.

So now we've got Mark Sanchez and Clemens is all but out the door because everybody knows it's only a question of when and not if Sanchez gets to start. So now, if we don't or can't build a QB foundation around this young man, well... where's the core or foundation, at least at QB? Is our foundation in the DEF? If so, how long can we keep bringing in other teams' successful players like we did this offseason?

That is what makes me uneasy. It's not even about this season, it's about what TF are we doing about building a solid foundation?

the late 70s and early to mid 90s were the time to panic.

meh...panicking has become routine. It's more of a "numbing" feeling now.

I'm looking forward to watching this years' team play some ball. Lots to be excited about, IMO.

I mean...it could be worse...it could be March, and we'd have to wait another 5 months for football to start.

I don't know about you guys but I haven't looked forward to a season as much as I am looking forward to this one since last offseason.

    What he said...

And while I know it's an unpopular position, I also think the weakness of the receiving corp is a bit overblown. The difference between last year and this year at WR is no Coles. Was he an All Pro? Was he a burner? He was a tough, steady possession receiver for the most part. I think it is very possible someone could step up and fill his shoes (Wright perhaps). Also, while Clowney's drops are a concern, Wesley Walker used to drive me crazy with his drops! The value of the burner is the deep threat. If he catches one or two bombs a game, that threat will be established and pull a defender out of the box to open the running game.

I'm not saying our WRs are great, just that they're not as awful as everyone wants to make it out--not drastically worse than last year anyway. Give some of these young guys a chance to establish themselves at least.

As MB pointed out, let's just watch and see what happens...there are always surprises for better and worse.

Coles didn't really impress me last year anyway. I can't remeber very many key plays and I think there were several games where he didn't even catch a pass. I never really felt he got open for Favre. He was good with Pennington because those guys had played togehter for so long that they could make plays other QB/WR combos couldn't because chad knew where LC was going to be before he got there.

If I think about the other changes as people have been saying all offseason, there is a lot to be optimistic about:
Coaching: Upgrade (Even though he's new, I still concider an upgrade)
    RB: Upgrade (Add Greene)
    CB: Upgrade

I think most would say last year we had a great shot at being a championship team but fell apart at the end. This year we should be equally optomisitc.

Lacking a blocking TE, a position that is really not that hard to fill in shoudl not make you think we have no chance.

I'd say if we were to go than 7-9 (with no significant injuries). It is appropriate to panic.

I wish we could trade for Brandon Marshall...the best blocking WR in the NFL and the answer to our lack of a "number 1" receiver.

Preach on brother. Coles was tough but didn't scare anyone on the defense. And the guy would pout like a little girl with a skinned knee when anyone dissed his boy Chad. That drama is gone and will not be missed.

Now the young guys get a chance to show what they can do and I'm liking what I hear from Stuckey. We may not have a true #1 WR but you can't tell me the Ravens did last year either. I would say that Cotch stacks up nicely to an old Derrick Mason, and Stuckey with whoever else they have. This Jets team is a poor man's copy of the Ravens last year. Our defense is just as talented but will take some time to gel. Our RBs are better, QB is equal, and so are WRs. So why can't we be a surprise team this year?

I agree on the WR comment. If you look at last year Cotchery and Coles had about equal stats. For that matter, the same could be said for the last two years. However, the ball is thrown is Coles direction a lot more. Bottom line, Cotchery did the same amount of damage with less chances.

This year though, will teams be rolling their coverages to Cotchery more so than years past and how does he handle it? I believe he has been better than Coles the last two years but he never has had the pressure of being 'the guy'. If I know J-Co though, he has been successful in everything they have ever asked him to do....special teams, kickoff returner, slot receiver, starter, etc.
