CC has gone up to 125 pitches several times this year. They must view 120 as his 100.

Good to see the Yankees have taken note of CC's overuse and subsequent post-season suck the last few years.

Hughes coming in for one out again. Seems stupid to me....

Oh, I know they do. I just don't see why it's necessary in this case. 3-0 lead. You're going to be using Hughes and (probably) Mo anyway, so it's not like you're saving anyone.

And even though CC is a horse, and it's nice to be able to let him go 120-130 when you need it from him, I don't like riding him unnecessarily hard. The more bullets are in that arm for October, the better off the Yanks will be.

This is probably the most unlikely phrase I thought I would ever, ever, say, but we could sure use Julio Lugo right now.

Agreed. I don't see why Hughes is used for one measly out when he can go not only 1 inning but more.

I'd really like Gonzalez to charge the plate here.

Girardi is batshit paranoid when it comes to the bullpen. Rivera warms up three times a fuckin game... He's warming up before Robertson even throws a pitch at 5-0 Top 9.....

He has to warm up. It's like fiber. Keeps him regular.

The game played out a lot like the game the Red Sox played in the Trop last week. It even ended on a walkoff homer by the third baseman.

Didn't agree with Hughes only being used for one batter in a scoreless game.

Ortiz should've been the one sitting on Saturday. DH Victor Martinez, Varitek catching, Youkilis at first base, Lowell at third, Reddick in left.

Amazing that Boston has scored so little in Yankee Stadium. 24 straight scoreless innings.

    Finally, it's Buchholz, people.

There is something going on with Hughes. I know they said at the beginning of the year that he too was on a pitch and inning count but I can't imagine it has anything to do with it at this point in the year. It's just strange that arguably their best reliever not named Rivera has only been used for two batters in two close games.

Okay... what, exactly, do you think is going on? I mean, this is exactly the time of year where you start thinking about pitch/inning counts for your young pitchers. Although I don't think it's that. I think they're probably just being extra careful on days when he's pitching back to back. (And 5-0 isn't exactly "close", either.)

I can't wait to hear what you think is going on, though.

So you agree you don't think it is "that" either. Isn't that what I said? I have no idea why they would only use him for two hitters in two close games in one of the most important series of the year but there must be a reason. I doubt it is because Girardi all of a sudden thinks he sucks.

I really don't think there's anything to read into about Hughes only facing 2 batters in 2 outings this series...at all

If you watched the games, both decisions made sense. If tonight's game is close, we might need Hughes for 1+ inning....mite as well keep him as fresh as possible

We're really going to complain about Girardi when our pen has managed to shut down the Red Sox in lord knows how many innings (save for Clagget of course)?
