I'm so pumped for this series, I'm starting the thread now! The first eight don't count... right? Thursday Joba vs. (the ghost of) John Smoltz Friday Burnett vs. Beckett Saturday Sabathia vs. The guy that could have been traded straight up for Cliff Lee Sunday Pettitte vs. Lester 2.5 up heading into the series. They have a chance to step on Boston's neck here, but I'm happy with a split. ETA: I can already hear the comments about "classiness" for the above picture. Awesome.
2.5 game lead headed into the series. Not too shabby. Can someone tell me the reason why Martinez is not catching every day by the way? He is way better than Varitek in so many ways.
Dude, Varitek is the Captain! (He even wears a C on his chest to remind people.) He is the heart and soul of that club, and pitchers forget how to pitch when he's not back there.
Disagree about one team will be left reeling. Best case for either team is to win 3 out o4. If Sox win 3 out of 4, Yanks are still in first place. Not reeling. If Yanks win 3 out of 4, Sox are 4.5 back. Not in great dhape but certainly not reeling
Right now I just want to see one fuckin win against those douchebags. Then take it from there. Tomorrow better be the day with shitty ass Smoltz on the bump.
Yep..Unless the Sox take 3 of 4, they lose. taking a team 11 of 12 and being in second hurts... If the Yanks take 3 of 4 the Sox will not even make the WC.
If the Yankees loose 3 out 4 to make that 1/11 on the year after the Sox come in looking prime to get shit on there are some serious questions about this team's chances in the post-season. This also has the potential to be feel like the lowest the Sox have gone since '06. They are going in looking lethargic and the guys they are throwing are question marks for half the games...that combined with the Ortiz situation not sitting well at all in New York could make things seem like the sky is falling for them.
This is not going to be a good series. Tomorrow is basically a guaranteed loss with Smoltz on the mound, the game Beckett is pitching he's up against a guy who can be dominant so it's at best a wash, and Buchholz has been awful his last few starts. Lester should give them an edge in the last game, but I think a split is the best case scenario with 1-3 being quite likely.
This could be an interesting series...I dont know what to think about it with the Yankees playing well and the Sox looking for answers. We still lost the last 8, right? Joba needs to pitch like he has tomorrow, and the Yanks need to light Smoltz up like a Christmas tree. They can't wait until game 2 or 3 to take a game, that might be too much of a demoralizer for them to recover from.... Im still waiting for a Yankees fan/Sawx fan battle in this thread. Wouldnt be a NY/BOS series without one...
No, I put him on ignore for the series. I usually end up taking people off pretty quick because I'm naturally curious about what they're saying, but I'm going to try to stick it out through the series at least.
I'm not trying to "show" anyone anything, I just don't feel like dealing with his posts during this series, especially because I'm expecting a poor performance from the Sox. Shouldn't you be having convulsions over who started the thread anyway?
More bad news. Bay is out for at least 2 games with a hamstring injury. At least they were going to lose the first one anyway with Smoltz, but I'd like to have him in the lineup in the Beckett game. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=txredsoxbayhurt&prov=st&type=lgns
