Finally Smith has committed himself to the position. Mangini knew he had talent but had to deal with the issue of Brad still thinking he could be an NFL QB. It's difficult to teach somebody a skill they have no intention of learning. The fact that he is still around is shows he has some talent. Still though, 450 yards receiving and 261 yards rushing in 3 seasons wont keep you around much longer. He knows he has to create his opportunity. Perfect situation with LC gone.
My hope is that he catches on and succeeds. He has made a few tough catches in the past. Hopefully Ellard can show him the nuances of the position. Listen, the better Smith, Clowney and Stuckey get, the better off the passing game will be. Maybe they can surprise some teams.
Why is it a nightmare to have a guy committed to improving himself at a position of need? I'd prefer to have a proven #1 receiver on the roster, but I'm not sure why you're down on an article about a player trying to put himself in a position to succeed.
what I'm down on is that right now on our depth chart Brad Smith is listed as the starter opposite Jerricho Cotchery while New England has Welker, Moss and Galloway and Buffalo TO and Lee Evans.
it's a long way to go before smith is officially named a starter. WR's aren't everything. buffalo has a lot of holes and crying about how their WR's are so much better than ours is dumb to say the least. as for NE, they have nary any holes on the roster, but who are we kidding, we aren't at their level.
I like our secondary better than NE. If that helps. Wayne Chrebet was unproven at one point. Give the WR's on the roster a chance before we panic. Ellard will be able to teach them a thing or two.

We've looked at other receivers, nothing has worked out yet, and we continue to keep our options open. Again, I don't see the point of bitching in a thread about how he's working to become a better receiver. An article about the pathetic state of our WR corps today? Sure.

Hey guys. Lets not forget Stuckey. He will emerge as the number two. Keller as well is out there. And this team is a running team that will open some holes in the passing game. For this year anyway as long as our defense stays healthy we will be in every close game through out the season. I see Brad as a possession receiver like Wayne but bigger. He could be a great slot guy.
We are. But the majority is happy about an article that shows the progression of a WR, instaed of hearing for the 100th time that the WR's aren't as good as buffalo's, when buffalo as a whole sucks.
too be honest, if anything its better to have a quality group of young guys hungry to prove themselves than big named bigots who are distracting the team from the goals that they really should have.
