Michael Turner was a FA last year, we could have had him for money and money alone. I don't see the correlation between Gholston a LB and Turner a RB.

This is A very odd thread.

When I read it I assumed he was talking about trading for Turner in 2007 (instead of TJ) with the 2008 1st rounder. Turner had been available for trade then.

  3. First half of last year...I thought he at least SHOWED flashes. He had near sacks against Miami,San Diego and later Denver. Second half of the year, you are absolutely right. He was a waste of a roster space and of cap space.

Again, my only point is that despite all of this...he is STILL a 6'4 260 lb sub 4.7 pass rusher w/ freakish measureables who holds the single season sack record at an alum that includes Mike Vrabel,Will Smith and Chris Spielman. His main problems appear to be grasping of the scheme, quickness off the snap, lack of confidence and technique. All of those things are correctable w/ quality coaching and patience. W/ 2 solid guys in front of him...lets reserve judgement, turn the other cheek on his contract and hope he becomes the X factor he has the talent to become.

right now d'brick is the weak link on our line, and the weak link to our running game. why mangini wanted a sort of project left tackle i will never know. i'm not saying he sucks but he sure isnt ogden or pace production wise, like he should be given his draft slot.

Then shouldn't this thread be Michael Turner Vs Darrelle Revis? Which btw would be even more of a fail than Vs. Gholston.

Kurt and byz are both right. It's good to have a developmental project on board with the defense we could have right now, and Gholston is just that. I have not given up hope on him at all, and I think he'll make a few plays this year.

However, he showed nothing last year. A guy who had 14 sacks his last year in college and was drafted 6th overall has to do more than he did his first year. He showed no reason to think he would recoup anything, and that was what was most disappointing. He wasn't even being double, triple, quadruple, and quintuple teamed like D-Rob either.

I view him the same way I look at a project rookie we could take in the 4th or 5th round. Maybe he'll show some promise and be a contributor. Maybe he'll exceed all expectations and live up to his physical stature and be a star. Or he could bust, and nobody would be surprised. The fact that I have to downgrade expectations like that after just one year with Gholston is pretty sad.

And as for Turner, I got my years mixed up, thinking he was an RFA for something last year.

Maybe I'm not typing this right or something. In 2007, Turner was available for trade. We could have used the 2008 1st rounder - you know, the one we used of Gholston - to trade for Turner. Like, a future draft pick.

I still got faith in Gholston it was only one season so he has potential to make it big...

Bad comparison IMO. Turner was not worth a 1st + 3rd and the aforementioned picks of Keller and Gholston have not been given enough time to justify their selections. Keller had a great rookie year, and people who are already labeling VG a bust after only one season are jumping the gun. If VG contributes this season and Keller continues to have an impact we could bump this thread and say the NYJ made the right decision.

Brick is the weak link in the running game. Woody is the weak link in the passing game.

Woody had a great season last year. The weak link of our offensive line is lack of depth.

its just to me we kind of did the same thing as far as us getting shonn Greene not saying anything about him at all... he is the same stature as Turner but i think turner is a bit faster and a hard nose runner... Keller is a outstanding pick but the verdict is still out on VG i just hope he has a Mario Williams type of rookie year then blows up... If Rex Ryan Can change VG's whole concept of thinking and playing then he is the man..

We should draft a T which isn't a spectacular run blocker or pass protector but is serviceable in both things (I know it's not easy to find one) this way he could alternate with those guys... anyways I like D'brick and I think that with Faneca on his side our RB can run on the left side too and not only on the right side (where I agree we are better at running though)...
