Thu Jun 04, 2009 7:27 am EDT Jets' Ryan: 'Im not here to kiss Belichick's ... rings' In an interview on WFAN radio Wednesday, New York Jets coach Rex Ryan added spice to the already intense rivalry with the New England Patriots. "I never came here to kiss Bill Belichick's, you know, rings," Ryan said. "I came to win. Let's just put it that way. So we'll see what happens. I'm certainly not intimidated by New England or anybody else. . . ." During the interview, Ryan was asked if he felt like the Jets needed to send a message to the Patriots. Ryan indicated there have already been squabbles behild the scenes between the two franchises. "I think we already have sent a message to them," Ryan said. "So they can read between the lines. . . . They can figure it out. And when they come here that second week of the season, we'll see." Source: WFAN RadioProfootballtalk.com
Ryan is always good for a great quote, I can't wait to see him coach. I don't think I've ever been so excited to see a new coach run a team
Great quotes.... like I said in another thread. The read between the lines is "Don't fuck with us because if you do we will hurt you" We have brought in the players who want to and will do it on command. I think it's pretty simple... the Pats however may not get the message unless we stick to our word.
Good stuff. Another good Rex line during the wfan interview yesterday. Not verbatim but here's the jist of it: Francesa: "So moving on to the pats, what are your early thoughts?" Rex: "Attack them. You've got to take it from them."
i can see rex blitzing the piss out of tom brady in new englands first few posessions of the game. with the intent of knocking him out of the game. wow i cant wait.
Which will only make it feel so much better if we have a great season And nice Turd Ferguson avatar haha
I don't know, talk doesn't do much for me. Maybe when I was a teenage fan I would get pumped to hear talk like this, but until I see it on the field, it is hot air and inflated expectations.
In my mind, ryan is either: A. A coach with no fear and will not take no for an answer and is not afraid of a challenge. or B. A loud mouth coach who is getting our expectations high and could fuck up during his years as a jets head coach. .....I hope he turns out to be A and not B because I like his attitude.
Ryan sure is sticking his neck out with the quotes and all. Most new coaches would be too timid to make brash statements like Rex has. This guy hasn't been a Head Coach for 1 snap and is messing with the status quo. The opposite of Rex would most definitely be Mangini. He barely would speak on the subject of his former boss and mentor. The team play for most of Mangini's tenure against the Pats was bland and unimaginative, much like Mangini.
the only thing i've noticed so far is ryan likes to hear himself talk. since he's been in town, that's all he's done is shoot his mouth off. i do hope he's a really good coach and can back up his mouth because he sure use's it too much!!
a lot of talk for beginning of june--jets think they have the best d in the league but they will def have the worst offense in the league
don't be afraid of the confidence. he is talking a lot and the players all seem to be responding to his way of doing things. his mouth will get us a lot of heat from fans of other teams and the media, but if the players are working to live up to his expectations this could be a fun ride.
It was a great line, I royally pissed myself laughing at that. Sure he needs to back it up when the season starts, but it's great fun right now.
