As long as the NFL keeps their current contract with Direct TV there will be no other way to see games. It's the most ludicrous professional sports deal going. The NFL has given direct tv a monopoly on all of their games. All other pro sports (MLB, NHL, NBA) you can just purchase the season pass a la pay-per-view regardless of what cable service you have. Yet the NFL mandates that you have to have Direct tv or the dish in order to be able to see all of the games. They are losing a shitload of money in the process. Yet the contract with direct tv is so lucrative that the NFL doesn't look at it as a losing proposition. Very shortsighted on their part. Anybody with any cable provider should be able to pay for the Sunday ticket. Eventually they'll see how much money they're leaving on the table and open it up to all.
Its true. DirecTV kills me in the wallet. And I am at school most of the time, so it is wasted. haha.
Now that makes sense. I can see the NFL looking to expand to other carriers if Directv didn't feel like picking up the tab anymore and make the NFL even richer. But even then, you'd be talking about only Sunday Ticket. The only thing that can keep the networks from showing the local games are blackouts. If it comes down to that, I would just have to pony up for Sunday Ticket rather than paying on a weekly basis. To those folks who would pay $10 bucks a pop, don't forget the additional $10 pop if you wanna see it on HD. This could get extremely costly. Sunday Ticket would be the way to go.
Stuff like this is why god invented hackers. The NFL should learn from the music industry that too much greed fosters rebellion.
I'd pay $10 a pop instead of Sunday Ticket only because DirectTV has the exclusive rights and they're fucktards. I'd prefer the ticket, but not w/DTV.
That's the whole point. The NFL has to make the Sunday Ticket something that anyone could buy with any cable service. I would never get Direct TV.
I'd care even less about football. It's already behind baseball and maybe even hockey in terms of my favorite sports.
CBS, Fox and Directv just agreed to an increase and will be paying the NFL fees in 2011 whether they strike or not. Total crap, the NFL is still god for networks and for the NFL the networks are everthing. Cowherd is good, but he's wrong on this one. The one good thing is the Red Zone channel from the NFL Sunday ticket will be on cable this year as a pay per view channel. That's all I need since I live in NJ and get all the Jet games on local channels
the nyjets network i can see it coming. you will need a pvl (personal viewing license) to be able to view it. black and white tvs will be pvl free.
Cable carrires will be the option of selling the Red Zone channel from Sunday ticket so at least people get watch that. That's all I need since I live in the NY area. Last week I said the league's smart deal with the cable giant would put the Red Zone Channel (the one that jumps from game to game on Sundays, showing scoring opportunities) on Comcast's digital tier. No so, most likely. Other cable outfits who make deals to put NFL Network on their digital cable tiers will probably place Red Zone on a pay tier similar to the one the league argued the NFL Network shouldn't be on. The reason is because the Red Zone Channel is added value, not something the league wanted to give Big Cable as part of the deal to make the Network more widely distributed on the regular digital tier. So if you've got Comcast and you want this premium channel, you'll likely have to pay an additional $7 or so per month to get it, which, over a four-month term, is probably a reasonable cost if you're an NFL devotee who loves immediacy and can't wait for the halftime or post-game highlights
Directv is less then 180 for the entire season, dont know how you consider that getting raped. Instead youre getting raped by Bell Xpress Vu.
Its not like Directv is giving you ONLY the Jets games. You get all the games, including stat trackers and the the red zone channel (very cool, especially if you are into FF) I guess you would understand if you lived away from the Jets. The $160 for the Direct Ticket is well worth it.
Somebody on the board (the poster's name escapes me right now) mentioned to me that Sunday Ticket in the states is well over 300 bucks for the season. EDIT: Now I remember...it was GreenMachine.
Edit. Saw the price online. Talked to my pops, said they allow them to get the ticket for the same price since they have ordered it for 10+ straight years. Wow, that sucks for new customers.
Well that Red Zone channel sounds ok. I mean it's better than nothing which is what us cable subscirbers have now. Yet I still want to eventually see the NFL open up the ticket to all cable providers not just that damn direct tv. I have no problem paying $200 or $250 for 16 weeks of games. I'll do in a heartbeat. Yet my problem is switching my whole cable to another solution which is satellite tv (direct tv). I will NEVER do this because I'm not a fan of the satellite service at all. Just make the Sunday Ticket something that anybody with cable TV has the option to buy. People will be lining up to buy that shit. That's a lot of money they're leaving on the table.
