Cowherd made a good point on his show today. Pay Per View NFL is on the way. I agree The Networks are losing 10's of millions of dollars on the NFL right now. That won't go on much longer. Couple that with the ridiculous PSL fees, and more and more fans are saying I'll just stay home and watch it for FREE. Not for long What is the Max you would be willing to pay to watch a Jet game on TV? For me, if it goes over $10 a game, I'm gone fishing.
I already pay 180 bucks for a season of Sunday Ticket.....that's plenty. If that goes up substantially...the NFL can shove it up their ass
I have a set of 6 season tickets and I can only make it to 2 regular season and 1 preseason game a year (I'm graduation this year so this will be the last of missing games). So I go to the bar and watch the game and usually pay between $15-25 on beer/food for the game. I am willing to pay for games because I am not in the local market, but if I was in NJ and had to pay to watch the game on TV, fuck that
I can see it coming to that definetly. Owners and players just don't give a shit about anything but their profit margins even during these hard economic times. PSL's have a new meaning for the acronym now: Plenty Seats Left.. Yeah, they'll go PPV probably at some point after the new CBA kicks in and they see how fat the coffers are or not. 10buks for a Jet game on TV? Highly doubtful. I might go Sunday Ticket again only if I cannot get to the local Damon's or Hooters to watch for free. I got other things my money has to go to these days. My entertainment dollars have shrunk considerably..
I would imagine that if this is the case, they will probably make a channel like "The Yes Network" but for Jets games. They will charge $10 or so per month to get the channel.
Cool. I live in Dallas and I get Bell Express Vu for free. Do you know which channels NFL plays on? As for paying for the games, local team games are always free on antenna. Atleast here in Dallas they are. If I had to pay for a Jets game, I wouldn't pay more than $5 a game. That works out to be $80 a season for 16 games. If they wanna charge more than that, I'd rather buy the season ticket and watch any game of my choice along with the Jets game. I have streamed games in the past and the quality is about 5 times better than justin.tv or myp2p.eu links. If it comes down to paying for the games, I can stream again for a minimal price for server rental. Server rental is about $200 a month. But if the NFL says $10 a game, they can shove it up their behinds...
On the way? Its here already. Last season I really wanted to see a game early i nthe season, Directtv showed the option to purchase a single game. It was $40 .... I said no way and just ordered the package.
What?! This is crazy talk and it doesn't make any sense. How are networks losing money? Sure, they pay the NFL for the rights to broadcast their games, but in return aren't networks making their monies off of advertising? And I don't see that dwindling down. If anything, they show goddamn commercials every 2 minutes on Sunday. And hell, if CBS didn't want to pick up the Jets broadcast, I'm sure other networks will bid on a fair offer for it. This move wouldn't make sense to the networks and it sure as hell wouldn't make sense to the NFL. At first, it might pay off, but as more and more people figure out about other outlets they will quickly take advantage of them. Even in small suburbs, fellow Jet fans will attend bars in large masses at first. As the weeks go by, they'll learn to put groups together so that a different person can host a game each week until eventually less and less ppl go to the bars. Eventually you could have a decent number of Jets fans within a 5-10 mile radius watching the feed in 1 house.
Bell has 2 satellite feeds...the American and Canadian versions. On the Canuck version.....the NFL network is on ch. 448.....and the Sunday Ticket channels start at 450 and end at 459, I believe....the Sunday Ticket HD channels start at 465 and end at 469.
Screw that. PPV Football. I'll listen on the free radio first and catch the highights on ESPN or SNY.
The current TV contract was signed in 2004. 6 years 20.4 BILLION. I remember at the time the networks were doing a lot of moaning about how much money they were losing. Their ego's finally got the best of them, and the contracts were picked up for the prestige of carrying NFL games. The next contract in 2011 is going to dwarf the 2004 contract. The networks will have to explain to their share holders why they are throwing away so much money. This might get real ugly. I really hope it doesn't go down, but it looks like there will be some MAJOR changes in how the NFL is viewed.
I would pay $10 or so for Jets games that weren't on network TV if that were an option. Direct TV can lick my nuts.
no way am i paying 160 a year to watch the jets. they should be paying me to watch them rip my heart out.
