I'm so glad this clown isn't coaching the Jets anymore.

I'm not opposed to players doing charity work...but Mangini's methods aren't too player friendly. I have a feeling Mangini is going to the lose the lockeroom before the season begins.

His curret label..."Mankok".....delivers a more accurate depiction of his demeanor.

So rookies feel pressured into spending a day working with kids. Boy they are sure being taken advantage of. Forced to do charity work before potentially signing 6 and 7 figure contracts.

Assuming it's voluntary and lack of participation won't affect job decisions, the issue I think the Browns organization should have is that the charity work is not being done in the Cleveland area. I know why he holds the camp in his hometown, but from even a PR standpoint, you'd think the players should be supporting their base.

To be fair, same criticism could have been made about Jets management (though CT is NY metro).

did you read the bolded comments in the article and my comment?!

it's not the charity work that's the problem....it's the pathetic 20 hour bus ride (round trip) for the players....taking an airplane would've made more sense. The Browns aren't breaking any rules according to the NFL Players Union....because it's voluntary....but the author contends that the rookies are having their hands forced....since their pining for contracts...they're certainly not going to refuse to go. It's a total "dick move" courtesy of Mangini.

Maybe you should read article first, before flushing your toilet.

I did read the article jackass. In case you dont realize it, mini/training camp isn't a vacation for rookies. Its a job interview. They dont like it boo hoo.

That is the biggest cry baby article of the preseason so far.

What does charity work have to do with making the team?! Nobody said anything about a f*cking vacation. The rookies are there to earn a spot on the roster....the charity work should come secondary. I'd be pissed off too.

Maybe you should read past the title next time....you may get more out of the article.

EDIT: Maybe Mangini could send the rookies up to the Yukon for his next Charity excursion...you know...to plant trees with the natives. No planes though....they can portage/canoe their way up there....like a bunch of fucking french voyageurs! I bet you'd be all over that, eh Ouchy....the big philanthropist that you are.

10 hours on a bus twice is pretty ridiculous. Why he would put people through that is not clear. You want people to help out at your mini-camp? Then schedule it so that it is not in conflict with a major team activity and ask people to get there themselves. Herding the rookies onto a bus to do this does seem like hazing.

You're right, it's a job interview. And they'll be competing for roster spots with players who WON'T have spent the weekend on two 10 hour bus trips. I had a problem when I read the first bolded comments, because it seemed as though they just didn't want to do charity work. The 2nd one cleared that aspect up, though. They just don't want their chance at making the team impacted by this, which is reasonable.

i think its beyond obvious why no one really wanted to take a bullet for the HC last year, and why the collapse happened in each 4th qtr.

I'd be a malcontent on the Browns this season. I'm a pretty damn good rah-rah leader with a mean streak, but on his team i'd be quiet and wouldn't give a shit if we won or lost.

How the fuck does this inspire anyone?

I don't think he did anything like this with the Jets, but he was probably scared shitless of the negative backlash the NY media would hit him with if he did. I can't say for sure but I'm pretty sure the Cleveland is all about LeBron-mania, esp. atm

It doesn't. Those that are confident that they belong on an NFL roster will bide their time and go elsewhere. Those that are desperate will tow the line. Is that the kind of roster you are looking for? Mangini will not be a coach in the NFL inside of three years......

In a few years Mangini will be coaching high school football and he will still have that son named Brett following him around reminding him that he could have been a contender.

I would feel sorry for him, if it wasn't the roughly $7M he's already made with more on the way. I'll look like a fool on national tv for that money.

No, he's just on the bus. Some people like to sit at the front of the bus, some people like to sit in the back of the bus. But the important thing is that he is on the bus.

At first, I thought Mangini would learn from his mistakes in NY. I believed he was a few corrections away from being a solid NFL coach. Looks like he is taking his mistakes to a whole new level.

Who fucking cares? Boo Hoo, people are getting bent out of shape over a freaking bus ride?

    Seriously??

    A bus ride?

Is that going to kill them? Does the season start this week, did I miss that memo? What harm is a bus ride going to do to these rookies? WTF?

Wow, that is some serious cry baby stuff. If I got paid millions of dollars, and someone asked me to take a 20 hour bus ride, I would be on that damn bus before they could finish asking me to do so.

How terrible it must be to be forced to ride on a bus, instead of having the luxery of flying first class on a plane. How terrible.

This article pissed me off so hardcore. What I would give to be in those rookies shoes, and people have the nerve to complain because they are riding to a kids event on a bus, instead of a plane.

    Crazy..
