Steelers' Harrison Says He'll Skip White House Visit

I didn't see this posted, and I think it's one of the weirder things I've read recently, not that he won't go, but his reason for it....

He doesn't see it as actually getting invited to the white house. He doesn't feel that the president actually cares which team wins, or that it happens to be the Steelers that won the Superbowl. To him they are just a bunch of football players, and it doesn't matter to him whether its the Cardinals, Jets, Chargers whoever that wins this honor. Harrison just thinks a gimmick... which it kind of is. After winning a Superbowl, meeting the president would seem rather anti-climactic. I would go and be with my team and not make a huge fuss over it, but obviously Harrison would rather make a statement.

I just think it is a stupid "statement" to make. yes, he is only getting invited because he won the super bowl. call it a publicity stunt or whatever you want, but thats the way it is. i dont care if he goes, actually i dont care about this at all, it's just a way to kill time, but it just seems like something stupid to make a statement about IMO...

    I disagree.

All it does is make our government look good, considering the NFL as a whole wants to continue recieving the governments support. If most players weren't for this notion, I would be willing to bet the team would be forced into it, just to make our government look good.

Screw that, I'll save my political stand point for another day, but I don't think you should just plug in the SuperBowl Champs at the white house.

i guess i just dont see what the big deal is. the world series champs, stanley cup champs, etc all get invited. whether this makes the govt look good or not is really irrelevant. i cant imagine they gain or lose a single vote with this act considering it is done regardless of the party in power. it doesnt matter to me if a player or team goes. if the jets ever win the super bowl (im still young so i may even be alive for it), whether or not they get invited to the white house as a result will have no effect on my happiness over the win nor my chances of ever voting for that president/party.

ok, i obviously have too much time on my hands considering how much ive written on this relative to my real interest in it. i just found it amusing to be honest, especially this part of his quote: "As far as I'm concerned, he [Obama] would've invited Arizona if they had won." as if that is an earth-shattering observation. harrison should consider life as a detective after his career is over...

Haha, I thought the same thing. I mean, duh. I had to read it twice because it made almost as little sense as the rest of it.

Harrison's standing up for what he believes. Nothing wrong with that.

What a tool. He has an opportunity to go to the white house to meet the president and he's offended by the fact that it's just because the steelers won the superbowl. That's an opportunity that most people will never get.

Uh, no shit he wouldn't have been invited if the Steelers didn't win the super bowl. The winning team gets an invite every year for the last few years. The Giants went last year.

    No freaking crap.

Haha, that was so angry. God Bless ya; but you forgot to tell him to not let the White House door hit him in the ass on the way out.

I bet if he were a race car driver and won the Indy, he'd refuse to drink the milk they gave him (or have anything to do witht eh girls) because "I'm only getting this milk because I won!"

What didn't he refuse the ring he got too? After all, that has nothing to do with the Steelers per se, it's just given to the winner, whatever the team.

You'd think linebackers would be smarter than this.

I don't post very much on the board but I can't help myself with this one.

James Harrison comes off as a complete and utter moron. How else can his comments be interpreted? He stands up for what he believes in?? It is an honor to go to the freakin' White House. It is a celebration of what your team has accomplished in 1 season. Time to reflect and enjoy the praise as a team.
    A similar situation...
Would he blame Mickey freaking Mouse if his team wanted to go to Disneyworld? He would probably be upset the magic kingdom would've invited children if they won the Little League WS.

The president of the United States(not the NFL, CFL, or any other organization) takes time out of his ridiculously difficult assignment of repairing our economy, health care system, etc to honor a TEAM effort. His team was invited because they WON the Super Bowl. I'm sure he doesn't have enough time nor patience to invite the other 31 freaking NFL teams, James.

HAHAHA, they played this on the radio in Pittsburgh yesterday and even these inbred, mindless, scum-sucking Steelers fans think he's an idiot.

This is what happens when you diss Dogfather Obama - your own dog attacks your children:

Steeler Harrison?s pit bull attacks young son

    http://www.ajc.com/services/content...s_dog_attack.html?cxtype=rss&cxsvc=7&cxcat=21
    The Associated Press

    Friday, May 22, 2009

Pittsburgh ? A pit bull owned by Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison bit his 2-year-old son in the thigh, but the boy is expected to recover though he remained hospitalized Friday, the player?s agent said.

Harrison?s agent, William Parise, told The Associated Press that James III was bitten after his mother let the dog out of its pen Thursday afternoon. Parise wouldn?t identify the woman, but said she and Harrison?s massage therapist also were hurt trying to help the boy. The massage therapist needed three stitches, Parise said.

Parise said Harrison was not home at the time, but was nearby and alerted after the dog attacked. Parise has not spoken to the boy?s doctors, but Harrison told the agent his son likely will be hospitalized another day or two.

Parise said the boy?s injuries were ?serious but certainly not life-threatening. I think any time a child is injured and requires hospitalization, it?s a serious thing. I know James was very concerned about his son.?

The dog was removed by an animal control agency.

Burt Lauten, spokesman for the Super Bowl champion Steelers said the team is ?aware of this unfortunate situation. We express our concern for his family and hope that everyone involved makes a complete recovery.?

A Franklin Park police spokeswoman on Friday said police are not commenting because the incident remains under investigation.

Parise said Harrison?s son is at UPMC Children?s Hospital of Pittsburgh. A hospital spokesman said the family does not want information released.

Harrison lives about 15 miles north of the city.

Parise said Harrison has not had trouble with the animal in the past.

?I?ve been with that dog personally, he?s a wonderful animal,? Parise said.

Parise said he doesn?t know why the boy?s mother let the dog out of the pen, other than to say he believes it was for a routine reason such as feeding or to care for the animal. The boy?s mother does not live at the house, Parise said.

?There?s no reason to believe that this is anything other than something that sometimes happens to children,? Parise said. ?The child should be fine.?

Harrison is the NFL Defensive Player of the Year and scored on a 100-yard interception return in the team?s 27-23 victory over Arizona in Super Bowl XLIII. He made headlines for declining to join the Steelers on a White House visit Thursday, though he passed up the same opportunity after the Steelers beat Seattle in Super bowl XL in 2006.

In 2006, then-Steelers linebacker Joey Porter was cited by police in Pine Township, another suburb north of Pittsburgh, after two of his dogs got loose and killed a miniature horse on a nearby farm. Northern Regional Police said then that Porter?s dogs were licensed in his hometown of Bakersfield, Calif., but not in Allegheny County.

A woman who lives a few houses down from Harrison said his dogs are well-behaved and cared for and are not a problem for neighbors.

?I jog and I run past his house every day and I have never had any problems with that dog whatsoever,? said Marissa Posteraro, 19. ?I have never seen the dog or heard the dog bark or whatever so I was very surprised to find out that happened.?

?The dog is very well kept. It?s never gotten loose before that I know of,? she said.

A pit-bull attacked a child? Nooooo – I keep hearing that cocker spaniels are more dangerous. Anyone shit all stupid enough to have a disgusting shit-bull around a child should be put in jail for neglect.

It’s a shame they did what they did to Michael Vick; I would have much rather him been persecuted for being a horrible quarterback than Providing a noble service by torturing and killing put bulls.
