How about let's make the same trade and get Crabtree or stay where we were and draft the best Wr available. Use our other picks to get the T/E, Rb and De we need and see what the Qb's we already had that were never given a true opportunity to play fight it out. I was totally against Favre and any other over the hill Qb being signed for any reason. This was a Psl move and there is a 50/50 shot it could kick us in the a** hard for years.
Sanchez is a natural leader and is willing to put in the work to learn the mental aspects of the game. Those are undoubtedly the most important qualities an NFL QB can have. Showing film of a few interceptions he threw is a waste of time.
That makes no sense, we're not gonna have a need for a QB unless Sanchez develops a heroin problems and gets kicked out of the league. You don't evaluate a QB after one year. And if we have to move up for a QB next year, I bet we don't only give up 2 backups, a marginal starting DE and a 2nd round pick. Let's see, we drafted a RB in the 3rd round this year and we drafted a TE in the first round last year. Blocking TEs are dime a dozen, we signed a couple of them after the draft and we worked out Michael Gaines who's only 29. We are pretty weak at DE but Douglass is underrated, we are lacking depth behind him but I have to choose between a marginal DE (Coleman) and a guy our FO thinks is a franchise QB, I'm picking the QB. And you're talking about how we neglected our needs, if we waited til next year to address our QB problem we'd be doing the same thing. And QB is the most position in football.
This PSL thing is getting old. Seeing that the new stadium is coming anyway, it really doesn't matter what Woody does, because it appears whatever he does that goes against the wishes of any particular fan is going to be perceived as a "PSL move". So, why stop at Sanchez? Rex Ryan was a PSL move. Bart Scott was a PSL move. Lito Shep was a PSL move. Leonhard was also a PSL move. Saying moves are PSL moves isn't going to make it go away. But here's an idea. How about getting players because we just want to win or they give us a better chance to win? There's a 50/50 chance that ANY QB taken in ANY year in the first round can come back to kick us in the ass. We're not the Patriots and we're not going to find another Tom Brady in the 6th round. Also signing over the hill--but established--QB's won't help this team in the long run. Just how many idiotic teams do you see out there looking to dump young Franchise QB's in a hurry? You're just gonna have to accept that it's all a gamble and we're gonna have to live with the consequences. Here's hoping it all works out and Snachez brings us at least one Lombardi trophy.
So Moving up in the draft to Nab a potential franchise QB is nothing more then a PSL move? I really care less and less everyday about long time ticket holders. Boo freakin who. Cry me a river if you can't afford your seats. At least have the god sense to break down a player and his ability if you want to be negative instead of the conspiricy theory of the momment. There is around a 50/50 shot any first round pick works out. Some becomming good pro's, some bust out in a few years, very few go on to be big time players. The Jets saw a guy they though fit our biggest need and went for it. I'm happy that we did it. So far Tanny has yet to trade up for a bust and I hope that trend continues.
FAR more likely that Sanchez would have been the #1 pick in the 2010 draft instead of inexplicably falling to the second round. Only Bradford could've had a chance to be taken ahead of him. He showed enough in 16 starts to warrant a top 5 pick, yet another year of experience and he might have fallen out of the 1st round? If he broke his legs, maybe. If the Jets were convinced that Sanchez had a shot to be a franchise QB, but they picked a WR instead because they thought, "Hey guys, let's just pick a QB in 2010 with our high draft pick which we will certainly have because our team will suck"....well, then, I might have to stop watching football. That's the very definition of "fucking retarded". You don't know that next year we would have had a shot at a better QB....nobody does. That's why you concentrate on the draft at hand.
I wish I would have read this article before I went out and purchased a Mark Sanchez statue that pisses Gatorade for my garden.
