no you've consumed the ultimate Jets concoction, wallowing in fear of every ounce of optimism and hope, wishing it away in fear of failure and this almost pure addiction for mediocrity - where its safe. take the leap of faith, because your team did. Your team is trying to win a championship for you by trying to draft a franchise QB who can take this team to the big game. stop being afraid of being a great franchise. its this kind of thinking that keeps this team exactly where it is. Dont be afraid of winning.
Additional thoughts on article I keep thinking about all the 1st round QBs that started 3 or 4 years in College and the crapped out in the NFL. Also the writer assumes that the Jets fell in love with the guy because of dinner talk never mentioning that he threw for the Jets privately and on his pro day, not to mention the film they have of him from USC. One last thing, Sanchez may have been a one year full time starter for USC, but he was with the program for three or four years, so that preperation time counts too.
How wasI wrong? He hasn't been given a fair chance. What, those 8 games. I bet you were one of the morons touting Ratliff after 2 good pre-season games
I file this one under the, "Looks who's talking before you take their opinion as gospel" category. Ross Tucker has a bias against the Jets. I listen to him talk on Sirius and whenever there's a negative slant on something the Jets do, he's there magnifying it. Sometimes it's justified, sometimes it isn't. He may be right, but it'll take more than him writing an article for me to acknowledge it. Let's see the results on the field before we bury Mark Sanchez as a bust.
I dont really see what the knock is. He is 100% right. Sanchez is saying and doing everything that one could hope a 23 year old kid who is likely to be the starting QB of an NFL team would do. He has all the intangibles, yes we know that, now lets see him get it done...we know that too. From all the evidence that we have at this point, we should be thrilled - however we should also be cautiously optimstic. It could very well take this guy three years before we can really lean on him to win us games. I just hope people realize that it is a realistic possibility. We all need to allow the kid who has the intagibles some time to have the phyiscal part of the game to catch up to mental part of the game (which he seems ahead of the curve on) before people on here start to crucify him.
How do you know that Sanchez was given a fair chance to start at USC over JDB? You naturally assume that Sanchez couldn't win the job there, but you are crying that Clemens hasn't been given a fair chance yet in NY... that's a terrible argument as well. Do you plan on making points for your argument that aren't completely easy to blow out of the water?
I didn't say you was wrong I said we were wrong as in the Jets. Obviously the coaching staff & the ownership have seen enough of him in 4 years in practices and in his limited time playing to see that he doesn't have what it takes. We make make assumptions based on what we know about football but last time I checked I dont work for a professional team and I assume you don't as well. Ill leave it to the experts and have faith in them. And yes I liked Ratliff and thought he should be given a more thorough look over. Obviously Ryan didn't see something he thought he could work with. I would have been happier if Kellen was traded and Ratliff was our backup.
Thats the thing, the author of the article wasn't saying that he's an inferior talent or an impostor or anything. The guys who go in the second and third rounds are generally very talented guys as well. The difference between a guy like Sanchez, who goes high in round one without what we might call elite physical specs, and a guy like say Chad Henne, who was a highly successful quarterback at another major program, probably a more gifted athlete physically, and went in the mid second round, isn't always clear. What is clear, is that nobody was much more impressed by Sanchez than they were a year ago with Henne, until we got late enough in the draft cycle for people to start meeting him face to face. And like I said in my first post, that could be a good thing or a bad thing. Good if they met with him, and decided hes a highly intelligent guy with over the top dedication to bettering himself and winning games. Bad, if they met him, and decided hes the sort of dynamic personality and pretty face that will get ESPN headlines and sell out jerseys at NFLshop.com. I hate to say it, because 9 times out of 10 I agree with the moves this Jets team makes lately, but I have a hard time believing them when they say they don't ever think about PR or seat sales when they make these high profile moves. Theyre dedicated to winning but theyre also dedicated to making noise in the media and being a more visible team than they were in the past, and while winning is probably the biggest part of that, it isn't the only thing. Woody doesnt want to be the New York B-squad anymore.
yep.. here's a good case to use: Dolphins endorse Chad Henne as the starter in 2010. Clemens in his 4th year, has been endorsed as the guy who, well he's here and he's competing for the job and well we'll see if he's progressed this year.
Perhaps if you watched NCAA football, or researched players at all, you would not be so worried about thew pre draft stuff. There are reasons outside of media savvy that Sanchez was a top rateed QB prospect in high school and this past season for the NFL draft. Your reaction to the Media coverage with our watching him play is silly.
i absolutely agree with the statement in bold. time will tell but jets fans are really really adamant about how great he is. scratch that how great they want him to be.
