Say this for Jets fans: When they're excited about their quarterback, they don't hesitate to put his name and number on their backs. Nine months ago, Jets fans bought 20,000 Brett Favre Jets jerseys in the first couple of days after he was traded from the Packers, making his jerseys by far the best seller in the league at the time. But now the Jets have drafted quarterback Mark Sanchez, and Sanchez jerseys (which sell for $80) have become the best-selling rookie jerseys on the market. Judy Battista writes at the New York Times' Fifth Down blog: According to Reebok and the Jets, Sanchez's No. 6 jersey is the top seller of all N.F.L. rookies drafted this year ? ahead of even the first overall pick, Matthew Stafford of the Lions. Reebok doesn't release specific sales statistics, but it said he was ahead of the pace set last year by running back Darren McFadden, the top seller in the 2008 draft class, who was picked by the Oakland Raiders. I know a little something about impulse purchases of quarterbacks' jerseys, so I can't say I'm surprised that Jets fans would be so quick to purchase the jerseys of Favre and Sanchez. I have a feeling, though, that most of those 20,000 who bought Favre jerseys nine months ago would say now that they could find a better use for their $80. http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2009/05/05/jets-fans-make-mark-sanchez-nfls-best-selling-jersey/
Sanchez is gonna be here a while...a Sanchez jersey is a better investment than a Favre jersey was, especially if that turd plays for Minnesota
OMG PSLs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR good for the Jets organization.
Nothing wrong with that. I personally really want a sanchez jersey because it's pretty cool to have a latin (im half latin) quarterback on a major stage, who happens to play for my favorite team. easy guy to root for also i wasnt going to buy a favre jersey
I will get one after his 1st good year. i can't bring myself to buy a jersey of a player who hasn't played a down yet.
I don't buy jerseys of players unless they prove they're good and I feel that they will be with the organization for a while (didn't work out with Vilma but I still wear it). Bought a Rhodes jersey last year, and I'l probably buy a Sanchez jersey within the next year or two if he's the real deal.
I bought a white one right away (arriving tomorrow!) but only because of the local connection. If he was from any other city I would have waited for him to prove himself first.
I'll be getting one of Scott or Revis ahead of Sanchez...I'm a defense kinda guy plus Sanchez hasn't done a thing yet.
I just got my Stafford jersey (it looks GREAT...but why no. 9 ? ) and will order my Sanchez jersey next month!
Buying a player's jersey before he has even played his first down in the NFL is ... fanboy lame. Wearing a jersy is a form of showing appreciation for the play of the guy who's name is on your back. Buying the jersey of a guy who hasn't even played yet just tells the world you don't take it seriously. How can you do that and call yourself a real football fan. There, I said it.
Why are folks so obsessed over jerseys? I have Jets slippers with googly eyes that I schlep around the house in on my day off. This is a day off. I'm better than all of you right now. What's the difference?
brett favre is a legend i have no problem with owning a #4 jets jersey with is name on it as a matter of fact im glad he played for us.it may have very been his last year in the nfl.
