Let me break this idiot down: Umm, forgive the Jets for wanting an eager, willing to do anything rookie QB. I mean every NFL team wants to have a reclusive, anti-social QB. So a cannon arm is now the only measurement of a QB? He has a strong arm, but not a cannon...gotcha. I guess the Pats should be slammed for drafting Brady and Cassel. Flacco started at Delaware. Kurt Warner did not start at N. Iowa until he was a Senior. Did Jeff Garcia start at San Jose State?
Tom Brady was behind Brian Griese and ALMOST lost out to Drew Henson...what the fuck is the writers point?
Uninformed? The fact remains that Sanchez was regarded as a late first-early second round type at the end of the college season. As the writer says, something happened between then and the draft. Best case scenario, he showed all kinds of talent, instincts and smarts at private workouts and the combine. But private workouts and the combine are not the same as a football game. Worst case scenario, they met the guy and got a mancrush, which we all know Jets ownership and Front Office are prone to (see Brett Favre). I'm not completely sour on the guy, because draft stock is kind of meaningless, even if he had ended up going in the second round its not like he would have had no chance of making it in the NFL, so the fact that he boosted his draft stock doesn't hurt the team in any especially meaningful way, and good for him for making his money. But honestly, this guy couldn't beat out John David Booty, who went in the fifth round a year ago and isn't even in the picture for the starting job with the Minnesota Vikings. I dont know about anybody else, but I dont find Sage Rosenfels that impressive, and apparently he's head and shoulders above the guy that Sanchez couldn't steal a job from, according to the Vikings anyway. You can object to the article if you like. Like I said, I'm not entirely sour on Sanchez myself. But the simple fact is that he wasn't drafted fifth overall due to his performance as a quarterback, on a football field.
Sanchez was never ranked as a 2nd round pick. If he was, that was a bad ranker. Pre-combines: Walter FB Projected Round (2009): Top 5-12 Pick. Scout.com Ranked 5th overall
For what its worth, Kiper and McShay ALWAYS had Sanchez in the top 10. ALWAYS. No dramatic rise there. disco..you are wrong.
sanchez was ranked in the top ten by most draft analysts. he was PROJECTED to be drafted in the middle of round one based on team needs. as the draft approached and he began to be projected higher and higher, especially after denver traded cutler. sanchez is not a workout warrior or anything like that, he posses top ten talent.
GM already laid out the Pre draft rankings for Sanchez, so I don't need to go into way your wrong on that. He was the top rated passer comming out of high school. Every time he touched the feild for USC he did well. He played through having his knee cap dislocated early this past season. He has excelent footwork and accuracy. He is very adept at reading defenses. He has all the tools to be a top flight NFL QB. His leadership skills are a big part of that. To say that he was not drafted because of what he has done on the football field is really misguided.
another JETS hater. Fuck em. Let Sanchez shut all the naysayers up with his on the field performance.
Another perfect example of just how much the Jets are hated. As I've said before, they will never be forgiven for winning SB III.
we'll never be forgiven for having an iconic QB in that era's pop culture who made the guarantee and pulled it off. Namath's deal with the devil ends when the man passes on. Or Sanchez can make a new deal.
I don't think this is that absurd an article. I saw many, many mock drafts that had us taking Sanchez. At 17. I saw quite a few that had us passing. Sanchez rode a powerful media wave to the number 5 spot. More power to him for doing so (especially as a new New Yorker). I honestly believe a whole lot of the Sanchez Fever had to do with Jay Cutler. Everyone in the league had to ask themselves "How valuable is a young, franchise QB? What would I be willing to give up? Can we get Cutler? Can we get the next best thing?" I love the Sanchez frenzy among Jets fans, though! It's blindly optimistic and fairly unrealistic, but fuck it.
If Sanchez was strong on tangibles, but not the intangibles, this quack would be writing the exact opposite. Just a case of a writer in desperate need of offseason material.
THIS THREAD IS ABSURD... 1) Do you really think that people who write mock drafts for magazines and websites have put in anywhere near the amount of film study and research that professional football organizations do? Any 12 year old with a computer can post his mock draft online. 2) Do you really think that any professional football organization is going to make a multi-million dollar decision with long-lasting consequences on the franchise based on non-football reasons like "so and so was so much more charming than so and so at dinner, and that story he told was so funny, we should draft him so we can have another dinner party". 3) Do you really think that pro football coaching staffs and general managers are going to move someone up their draft board just cause he's moving up Bozo Bob's draft board on BozoFootball.com and Frank's mock draft from FantasyFrank.com in the weeks before the draft?
I completely agree with the article. Its the way I felt before the draft and they way I feel now. We were had big time. Woody is an idiot and knows nothing about football. And you guys never seen him play and are just drinking the Jets potion. This draft will set back the jets 5 years. I am glad I am not buying PSL's so I can get out without dealing with that.
Actually a lot us HAVE seen him play. You have admittedly not seen him play and are calling him a bust. All I can do is scratch my head at the hypocricy. Regarding this article the writer seems to be as uninformed as you can get.
He's a hype machine, I can see it a mile away. I don't care if you watched him play since a toddler, you ain't qualified to judge talent and College ball is not the NFL. I hope I am wrong but before the draft this guy was every where hyping himself and at that point I was hoping we would not take him. I am entitled to my opinion based on what I want. Again, big deal, you saw him play a couple of times on TV, probably against inferior talent. You have taken the Jets kool aid.
A nothing article stating the obvious. We all know that he will have to produce, a smile doesn't take away shitty play. These writers are brilliant. I swear guys on here can write better than this crap. Give the kid a chance.
