We should start a petition to stricken 2008 from the books like they do with the 13th floor on elevators.

Allegedly Favre requested this move through cook. Why?...I don't know.

Regardless, it is a good move by Tanny. It is a definitive move demonstrating the team is moving forward and eliminates any possible distraction from Brett. Maybe the Jets could have gotten a late round pick if he decided to give it another try, but considering Tanny doesn't really value late round picks, it was not worth any potential distractions.

Favre gave us a great 11 weeks i'll never forget it...............But now is the time to stop with the replacement QBS. Honestly i joined this site recently but i've been a jets fan for a while and i'll put this in caps.MARK SANCHEZ IS HOPE AND HOPEFULLLY IS OUR SAVIOR.ANY TEAM WHO WON THE SUPER BOWL RECENTLY DRAFTED A QB HIGH IN THE FIRST ROUND.Honestly our team is good goin foward i'd like another pass rusher but maybe gholston might be half good.

thats exactly what i was wondering. if we release him, do we now have no rights to a compensatory pick if he signs elsewhere.

also, could we have even fit him on our salary cap for one day to trade him? or would it have been an option to trade his rights while he was still retired so that we didnt have to fit his $13 million on our cap for a day to make the trade? sorry, not clear on the intricacies of this stuff...

Don't think any comp from GB will be affected unless he comes back (are we definitely due a 2010 7th?) and we wouldn't get a comp from the league in any event.

No way we'd have $13m in free space right now, nor would it be manageable, so a trade would have been impossible unless there's a way to do it without him officially being reinstated? Can't imagine how that would work.

this is probally done so he can sign a 1 day contract like JErry Rice did with the 49ers, Emmitt Smith with Cowboys etc

I wonder if he will sign anywhere else. It'll be interesting to see if he does.

We won't obtain any comensatory picks for releasing Favre because it's based on the net loss of unrestricted Free Agents.

If Sanchez turns out to be for real the Favre blunder was worth it b/c it made us get a QB, that's about the nicest thing I can say about that whole mess.
