Don't have time to read the whole piece but if he turns out to be an enhanced version of Pennington we will love this guy for years.
If you've ever seen Sanchez play, you know that his arm is much better than "slightly better" than Chad's. It's not a rocket, but it's certainly above average. I agree with the intangibles though, I think he's going to win the locker room over very easily.
Considering Pennington when healthy was extremely successful and liked when he was here, if Sanchez can duplicate that with a stronger arm you can't ask for much more. I'm not concerned about the lack of picks. Its about finding your top 22 guys then getting backups. Look at Jacksonville. They needed help along their offensive line in the worst way. They signed Tra Thomas as a stopgap and used their top two picks on Eugene Monroe and Eben Britton. In one offseason they went from offensive tackle being a weakness to a strength. Next year's draft they could draft defensive lineman in the first two rounds (which we have picks in despite the Sanchez trade) and all of a sudden out defensive line goes from aging to promising.
If TJ's agent did that, he's a SOB. Regarding TJ, no way should we cut him. Rather, take the cap hit but save the money and make him sit out the year. Fine him and F him.
That's basically what I thought of Sanchez watching him this year: A stronger-armed, more athletically gifted Pennington. If that what he turns out to be then this is the greatest move in Jets draft history. Mayock and Phil Simms both thought he was the best, most polished QB in this draft (even w/his limited amount of starts). That's good enough for me.
Pennington with even a slightly stronger arm (Sanchez arm is about avg) would be an amazing thing for this organization. Chad might be the smartest, most accurate, and professional QB in the league. People on this board forget real quickly. I don't like comparisons, but that is one that would make this draft special if it turns out true.
So Chad Pennington plus a slightly better arm.. ok, works for me. CP was going to be a great QB if he didn't get injured over and over... lets hope that Sanchez dodges those daemons and we'll be very happy with him.
I completely agree. Even if his arm strength was just slightly better than Chad's was coming out of Marshall that's good enough, as long as he can stay healthy.
totally agree. chads arm was decent enough when he first came into the league. so if sanchez has a bit more than that he should be good to go.
If you are referring to his NFL.com analysis, he has legitmate NFL arm strength yes. Legitimate does not mean superior, which Matt Ryan has. If he compared the 2, i'd say that is way off base. Entirely different type of player. Most scouts rate Sanchez as physically avg for an NFL QB, but is a very cerebral player who does not rely on firing canons. i don't think that is a bad thing at all (thus the Pennington comparison).
I heard him say it on a radio show, but here's a link I found. http://www.scoresreport.com/tag/mark-sanchez-has-great-pro-day/ To be clear, Mayock has also said that none of this year's QBs rated as high as Ryan last year, in his mind.
If Sanchez turns out to be Pennington (before injuries, of course) with a stronger arm, then I will be extremely happy
Why would the Jets even care if it became public that they inquired about Burress? I sometimes think Cimini is totally bonkers with how he reads into things.
Pennington with an arm is a good thing. He seems to have more charisma and confidence than Chad too, but that's just from seeing a few interviews.
