Oh yea...definitely. ...but Mark Sanchez was always at the top of my board. I was hoping for the trade up all week -- even if we got Moreno, I'd still be a little sour knowing Sanchez slipped away.
me and alley cat seem to be the only ones who are on the same wavelength here. I hope im wrong but i might have to refer to this thread at a later date
Exactly. Dumping the overpaid, run-stopping, rotational defensive end on Cleveland was a huge fucking move for the Jets. So much money is saved by getting rid of a guy that would've lost half of his PT to Marques Douglas.
At first I was a bit upset at the trade. Now I look at it as we had to give it a shot. We had to make a splash and we DID. Get him signed ASAP and get him the playbook!!!!
There will be a cap dude, theres no way the nfl will not get a cba done, but thats for another days debate
He started 1 season so how many championships could he have won 1. I think USC should have played in the title game over Oklahoma & I think they would have beat Florida. Also they spanked Penn State & Ohio State SPANKED.
Either way, if we're going after a franchise QB, like you said, McCoy or Bradford next year, well gee, how much money do you think they get?
Tom Brady rode a bench for most of his college career....how did he turn out? Don't judge this kid before he's given a fair chance. The Jets FO have obviously done their homework on him....he's highly regarded around the college ranks. You people who come on this board with your unnecessary negativity just floor me...you'd think you'd be a little more optimistic for the future of this franchise....We just drafted our quarterback of the future....and we didn't give up the farm for him. A couple of role players, a swap of first rounders, and a 2nd round pick.......seems like a great deal for a potential Franchise QB.
Personally, I love the fact the Mike T goes after the players the team wants and lands them most of the time. I can't believe all the "experts" on this board who never met Sanchez, never interviewed or quizzed him, and never worked him out have such strong opinions on this. I don't know if this guy will pan out and I don't know if any of the guys you experts wanted will pan out. But why be such miserable pricks all the time? I trust our new coach has better football insight than I do and I'm very happy that we got a guy who really wanted to play here and he fills one of our biggest needs. I want Clemens to do well but let's face it, he doesn't seem to have that extra something that makes a QB. When the Jets met Sanchez, they thought he had great leadership skills and a confidence that a QB needs. There are plenty of people who can throw a ball but how many people can lead? I think Clemens probably lacks in leadership otherwise he would have won the job last year and we wouldn't have had a Favre fiasco. How many times have you heard Kellen Clemens name in a trade rumor? Never, because no one in the league thinks he's a solid QB. Sanchez on the other hand apparently has that something special. Like I said, we don't know for sure but why can't we trust the people who are much closer to the situation. Get on board or sell me your tickets.
well with a rookie cap in place not as much, and even if there isnt one, i would feel much more comfortable with a guy like mccoy who took less than great talent on his back. Or a guy like Bradford whos a technican out there
exactly that is why it was cheap to trade up this year. teams dont want to pay huge amounts of money when the odds are so bad. next year there will be a rookie cap and those guys will not kill a franchise like the 2 drafted at the top might do this year.
mbgreen the thing that i think is that they havent done thier homework, i feel as though they fell in love with his performances a couple of times against lesser competition and he did a great interview. i really dont think he is going to be great or even a solid starter. that is why i am so heated about this.
Dont worry, you are undoubtedly wrong. Fuck the fact that he played 16 games in college. He would have been arguably the #1 QB taken in the draft next year, and maybe #1 overall. This team needs a QB to pilot its offense. Rex will make sure his defense dominates the game, and now we have a QB that will be the face of the franchise for hopefully a very long time. If all you have is that he played only 16 games or we mortgaged too much for a QB, you need to reevaluate things and step back to see what this really could mean for the Jets. This could end up being the piece that puts us over the top if he turns out to be what he is hyped to be.
There is nothing set in stone about a rookie cap -- I believe that a cap will be set around 2011. Mark Sanchez was one of the few elite players in a mediocre draft. The Jets made a great decision in moving up for him. Aaron Curry, BJ Raji, and Jason Smith are all players I consider to be elite in this draft. Eugene Monroe is close, but his knee problems scare me. No receivers in this draft were worth the 17th pick - not even Crabtree, who I think will be a huge bust.
they haven't done their homework?? they were one of the first teams to work him out in February and interview him. The Jets brass kept in touch with Sanchez's people for the last couple of months.
