First time since 1983 by my count. We'll see what they gave up but if they hit with Sanchez it'll be the most important move for the franchise since hiring Bill Parcells in 1997.

The value in the deal completely depends on Sanchez. If he hits we're golden and if he doesn't we're screwed.

And it's a good deal. They have Clemens as backup still and they gave up no players with real value. This is just the 2 picks for Sanchez and how can you argue with that?

Great Deal as repotrted on ESPN.

Our 1syt and Second + Kenyon Coleman, Abram Elam, and Brett Ratliff.

Awsome deal for a potential Franchise QB.

Yeah, this is the quintessential boom or bust, but we didn't mortgage a whole lot.

    Thanks man-boobs.

Its a great move. We gave up a 2nd to move up 12 spots (I don't even care about the players, Coleman may have been the only one to make it to the 53-man roster this season, and he was nothing special) I'm just absolutely shocked the Redskins couldn't outbid us. I guess since things worked out this well for Mangini, no hard feelings...even a discount?

Mangini needs friends in the NFL. He's burned his bridges in New England and apparently Parcells turned off when the spygate thing happened. So he really needs to have people out there who are good with him. It seems that the Jets are some of those people at this point.

The important word is might. We might have a franchise QB, and I really hope he is, but I don't like it that we gave up a 2nd rounder. Now we only have four picks left and their all 2nd day picks...

I honestly think Mangini didnt want picks, he wanted players, and its my opinion that moving to #8 would have been expensive in terms of picks, where as here its only expensive in terms of moving 3 players.

I hate trading up in the draft with a passion. I think it's a loser move made by wanna-be GM's and owners who fixate on one player who might be the franchise or get caught up in the "sure thing" trap - swapping two or more picks to get one guy they think is guaranteed to be good.

All of that said, I think trading up for a potential franchise QB is the only defensible way to consolidate value. Given that the Jets managed to do that and only give up backups and JAGs alongside the extra 2nd round pick I think this has to be considered a good trade.

If Sanchez becomes a franchise QB in reality none of us will ever see this trade as anything other than one of the best 3 or 4 moments in the franchise's history. How can you not make that move given the relatively low price paid?

Well Tannys track record with trading up has been good to this point. I usually not a fan of moving up myself, but he seems to make the right choice when he locks onto a guy. Lets hope that trend continues.

To be fair a high 3rd isnt anything to laugh about. Its a day 2 pick nowadays because of the awful setup done by the NFL.

And we know what the 4th round brings....

I actually have a good feeling about this.

I don't like giving up the 2....But...what the heck....this year and next year are depth drafts...for the first time in a very long time.

I loved seeing Sanchez's face. You know he definitely wanted to be here. Good for him, and great for the Jets!

Any chance of unloading Jones to get back into the second round?

Yeah, I second you with trading up. I've always admired Belicheck's drafting strategy, stacking up picks and picking for need.

Like I said, on second thought the trade was a steal, only the pick is a big if, I mean the kid only has 16 college starts, he has to stay on the sideline and hold a clipboard for at least a season or two, while getting paid top 5 money.

And if Sanchez becomes a franchise QB and a first ballot HOFer, all this sceptissism (spelling?) is for nothing and I'll be happy to admit I was wrong doubting this kid

I'm actually encouraged. A little too much to give up, but we were going NOWHERE with Clemens (yeesh) or (ugh) Ratliff. Sanchez has been a star at every level, so I'm hopeful.

    He's pretty, though. That's a problem.

From reading all the stories on Mark Sanchez it seems this is a real good pick for what we gave away. Yet I still here Pete Carrol saying he should have stayed one more year in college. Only one full year a USC. Yet his stats are really good. I hope we made the right choice and we dont have to look back at this draft and say what-if. But he is all ours and I wish him the best of luck.
