That would be fucked up they dont play in our Northern States that don't have domes but they'll move it across the atlantic ocean. Fuck them.
I have absolutely no problem w/ the SB being played in London. It is a much better idea than sending a regular season game over there which hurts the fans of the "home" team. I mentioned this a few years ago when the London reg season games began, it would be better to send a SB b/c that game isn't for real fans anyway
Are you for real the pinnacle of the season isn't for real fans?? If anything Id say do the probowl over there thats the game that isnt for real fans.
We'll still get to watch the game on TV like we do now but the Stadium is mostly filled w/o real fans. The reg season game 70,000 people lose a home game to attend, losing the SB to London would maybe cause 2-3K fans to lose a game to attend. The rest is filled w/ people who could afford to fly to London to see the game.
It would be like 1 oclock in the afternoon if it was played over there no way american advertisers would go along with this. I just see Fail written all over this. Plus look at last years superbowl companies couldnt afford to go or advertise when it was here now they have to pay to go to london sorry just not gonna happen. Or better yet shouldnt happen.
Junc i understand your premise. the whole london reg season thing is a fiasco. That said, putting the Superbowl in another country is an even worse idea! The Europeans for the most part dont give a damn about "American" football. They care about Football as much as we care about soccer, essentially not a whole hell of a lot. These games being outsourced is retarded, and it hurts everybody! If Europe wants its own football league thats fine, let them create it. Heck one of the reasons Goodell didnt renew NFL Europe, is because they couldnt sell the seats! The hell with this shit. You don't see the NBA or MLB sending their playoff games over seas! hell they dont even send spring/preseason games overseas. Fuck Goodell.
Here's a link from the BBC about it. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/other_sports/american_football/8016358.stm
If they sell out a reg season game they will be able to sell out a Super Bowl. NFL Europe was a joke, it was like their version of MLS. The NFL and NBA don't play their Championship at a nuetral site or I guarantee you they'd play overseas.
This is such a terrible idea. Do you even know how much money is generated the week of the Super Bowl for those cities privilaged to host it? I'm not at all in favor of allowing those dirty Europeans to bank off of our favorite past time? Another thing is, at least here in the States, fans can fly for cheap or drive to and from the SB site if their teams are fortunate enough to make it (knew a buncha Giants fans who were actually able to attend the big game a few years back). You'd be drastically reducing that number to practically zero if you move it overseas. No sir. I don't like it.
I'm English and even I don't want the Super Bowl to be in the UK. I attended the Wembley game last year and enjoyed it and I'll go again this year, but the Super Bowl needs to be in the States - it just wouldn't feel right anywhere else. I also do not want a London franchise. The NFL could get their fingers burned on that one. Every fan in the UK is passionately connected to an NFL team already and the vast majority would not switch to a crappy expansion team with a wrong-sounding name (remember the London Monarchs) and anyone who lives outside of London can't stand the place - there would be very little support for a London team. While they're at it, go back to 28 teams and stop diluting the talent! No to an 18-game season! No to uniform changes! No to franchise relocation!
The reason why American football is called American football is because its...er...played in America , not Europe or anywhere else for that matter. Totally against this absurd idea , any regular season games , play-off games etc..being played overseas. For years I have wanted to get a Direct TV type deal over here (UK) and because of 'rights' , it doesn't look like happening anytime soon. $ rules. For years the NFL has tried ramming football down the Brits necks , they don't want it , and for most is just a sport for guys who aren't man enough to play rugby , NOT my thoughts. But you get the idea. What makes this even more laughable is that IF they want to target a country outside of the US , look no further than Germany as the leaders in NFL support , German Jets Fan will no doubt endorse this. NO to NFL in Europe
QFT.... The NFL just isn't satisfied with having milked it's fans to death so now it wants to find a new source of milk. I say the hell with that.
Its fucked up really is, Im sorry but playing one game out of the country is ok but not the biggest game of the year.
Normally I would say playing the game in Europe would hurt the experience by quieting the crowd, but SB crowds are usually very quiet anyway. Wild card playoff games have louder fans than the SB, due to the travel and the fans being mixed between the teams. So sending the game over there wouldn't change anything for me.
European crowds are louder than US ones because they never, ever shut up. Soccer crowds sing throughout a game - it's a wall of sound that is an amazing thing to experience - even if their team is losing. In this case, however, you would be right. At the Saints-Chargers game last year the crowd was quite noisy, but there was no rabid home support, so it wasn't anywhere near as intense as a regular season game in the NFL can be. It was much like a Super Bowl crowd in that respect.
Yeah you Brits are pretty rowdy... you guys sing at Ricky Hatton boxing matches... yes I'll be there next weekend to see him fight. I hope he brings his horn player but he needs find a new drummer. Once that Blue Moon starts the crowd goes into a frenzy.... dam maniacs from Manchester....... Junc's argument that NFL E and MLS being similar was quite a good one and he probably never considered that while both leagues were trying to bring in a new fan base the primary goal was to develop new talent which MLS has been somewhat successful at although NFL Europe had it's few "stars" as well. The fact that MLS is expanding during an economic crisis and has lived into it's 2nd decade of existence is somewhat surprising to hardcore soccer fans like myself. I don't really think it's fair to compare any of the other sports; hockey, baseball, and baseball to the NFL as there is a large percentage of foreign born players in all of those sports. Other than the usual kicker or the very rare position player there aren't very many players on NFL rosters that weren't born in the US (and no Hines Ward doesn't count). While I think it would be successful I think there would be a major backlash from taking a piece of American history, tradition and a day people plan major events around and taking it away from America. You want to play preseason games in Mongolia.... be my guest but the SB in another country one that has shitty weather on top of it and you refuse to play one in New York..... piss off.
