http://www.rotoworld.com/content/home_NFL.aspx Mark Sanchez-QB-Player Apr. 23 - 8:45 am et Seahawks GM Tim Ruskell said Wednesday that his team isn't looking to draft a quarterback this weekend. Ruskell says Matt Hasselbeck, 34 with a back condition, is "in his prime" and wants a the No. 4 pick to play right away. His best options, then, are Michael Crabtree, B.J. Raji, Aaron Curry, or perhaps one of the offensive tackles. Source: Associated Press ...this is good news for those who want Sanchez...now he may fall to 8...although this could be a smokescreen by Seattle...we will see... Brady Quinn-QB-Browns Apr. 23 - 1:27 am et NFL Draft Scout's Rob Rang says he's heard that the Jets may be among the teams interested in Brady Quinn. Dealing for Quinn could be a fallback plan if the Jets can't trade up for Mark Sanchez. Still, Quinn is even more unproven than Kellen Clemens. Quinn has more physical ability, but would likely take the 17th overall pick to acquire. Source: Cleveland Plain Dealer this not so much...
Everyone lies this time of year. The Jets are trading for Campbell, Quinn, and Sanchez. Oh, and Boldin. Everyone just settle down. Its Thursday, this will all be over soon.
It would cost the Jets at LEAST their 1st and 2nd, maybe their 4th too to move up to 8 to get Sanchez..and I don't even like the guy. If they could get Quinn or Anderson for just their first OR second I would rather either of them.
And if the Lions do pass on Stafford, it is going to change everyone's plans. I agree though we do not give up a kings ransom to get Sanchez. I would kick Koz's cat too if that happens, and perhaps go smack a Dukie....damn that coach K is so smug!
Sanchez looks glamourous now, but then you pick him, and he turns into just another unproven rookie who's head is spinning at the speed of the game and the complexity of Shottenheimer's playbook in August. And we've given away half of our draft picks (3 of the six) to get him. It's a dumb move, but one that Tannenbaum will probably make because it makes him look good in the short turn. I'm tired of this guy grabbing the low hanging fruit to make himself look good and giving away our draft picks. The move this year is to trade down a little and get more picks...Jets still have major holes. I'm sorry but we don't have a defensive line. Jenkins is great when he's in there, but he gets tired, only plays 2/3 of the plays and 2/3 of the season, and with his size and age, is an injury waiting to happen. We need a young guy behind him. Ellis is very good sometimes, disappears at other times. And he's old. The other end...do the Jets even play another end? I don't think I've heard his name called. And that's just the D-line...Faneca looks like he's got one year left and Woody's and old man...you've got to keep replenishing the O-line. Anyways, the Pettigrew kid sounds good...maybe one of the USC linebackers, OK...but there are plenty of holes to fill and the Jets should be thinking of trading down to get more picks, not trading up for yet another unproven QB and giving away picks.
accordin to the value chart...to move up to 8 would cost 17, 2nd and 4th I believe, but we could throw in a player...Im all for throwing Bryan Thomas and Eric Smith or something like that if Jacksonville would take them...force VG into the starting line-up, hes gunna be a beast anyway...
1) I think it would cost less to move up because of the high contracts the top 8 get (the dropoff last year was after the #8 pick). Jacksonville traded from #26 to #8 last yr and gave up two 3's and a 4. 2) Somebody above said it, but no way Quinnn brings back the #17 pick to the Browns. He was drafted #22 and he has proven nothing in two years except that his current team is offering him in trades. He's also two years older.
Those other 3 picks would also be rookies with their head spinning. Low hanging fruit that makes himself look good. Do you mean the low hanging fruit like Darrelle Revis, David Harris and Dustin Keller? I'll take that low hanging fruit any day of the week. This is a weak draft. I think the move this year is to move up and get the best players possible. I don't disagree, but we can get depth in the 3rd and 4th rounds. We will still have those picks if we make the move to trade up to 8. The draft is a crap shoot and isn't the only place where we can fill holes. For the most part we are lacking depth and not starters. So we should be able to fill depth with late free agent pickups if we need to.
The "Major holes" you're referring to are for back-up type roles.W/ the exception of Coleman, none of the other players you're referring to are likely to be replaced w/ a starter right away. Those are things that can typically be addressed in the later rounds or in free agency. Like many times in the past we have a solid-to-elite roster but no franchise QB. The philosophy you are looking to have..I.E. fill other "needs", trade back and ignore the opportunity to take a franchise QB all together, is one that this franchise has died by since KOB.I'm all for drafting for depth and going BPA at every spot...but at the same time if the opportunity to finally nip this QB issue once and for all comes about...w/o hesitation we should bite on it. Yes, we'd be bringing another Unproven QB into the fold. But the other QB's are not ELITE LEVEL qb prospects like we would in fact be bringing in. Clemens is a second round pick who has looked like an average back-up his first 3 years, Ratliff is a UDFA who has 2 decent preseason appearances and Erik Ainge maybe out of football within the next 4 months. Are any of them elite level prospects? Would you show any hesitation in dropping them if Matt Ryan showed up at Florham park w/ a pink slip and a resume? Eventually we have to take a chance on an elite level guy..b/c if we don't...we'll be having this same conversation year after year after year. QB is the most important position on the football field..and it's also the one position we havent had stability at in at least 4 years.
This post is a hot, steamy pile of turd with the exception of the obvious assessment of our OL and DL. The bolded part really shows what a clueless poster you are. If you're really unhappy with that "low hanging fruit"--like Revis and Keller--that Tanny has brought to this team, don't forget to also include some of the absolute worst trades he's pulled with middle to low end picks like Jenkins and Lito Shep. I mean, if you're gonna criticize the guy, might as well do it right. Then you wanna close this post by considering Pettigrew with our 1st? I guess someone needed to step up in the clueless department now that TampaBayDolphinsFan isn't here. Good job sir. Keep up the good work.
No to Sanchez. I'm pretty confident us going after Sanchez is a smoke screen. This draft isn't that weak its just lacking in high end talent. There are quite a few mid round guys that show promise. There are maybe 5 or 6 guys I would consider for us to pick with 1st round pick/money. But there are easily over 20 guys that I would pick in 2nd or later.
I am still convinced we may be planning on moving up for a WR...from all the grumblings, Maclin or Crabtree will be there at 8...
I get the same sense. I'm not sure why you would go out of your way to say you are not interested in drafting someone or a position if you weren't smokescreening. Let's hope its true though
Mangini is shifty so I believe that. Mora is no Holmgren and don't know if he's smart enough to put up a smokescreen.
