  2. He was an average at best pass protector but he was a monster in the running game..especially down field. IMO he deserved to go.

As much of a beast Faneca was in the running game, I felt we ran better to the right behind Brandon Moore.

A lot of the players that go to the probowl go because of their name. It is always the case. I was happy with Faneca's play last year and this year should be better because the line has a year under their belts and the OC hasn't changed.

Faneca was not that good in pass protection, that's a fact. He wasn't awful tho and his leadership to D'Brick and Mangold is invaluable

If Faneca is more of a run player... Moore too and Woody as well.. who the hell is protecting the pass!? Wouldn't it be worthwhile to get a RT with a late pick who sucks in run game and excels in pass protection? Just to have a little more flexibilty...

Yep, even the left side of the line was putrid in 07. Last year it was vastly improved.

That is exactly the point. Neither Faneca or woody had to be all world comming in last year. Being average would have placed them mailes ahead of the bums they replaced. We need young O-line depth for sure, but we are fine with out starters.

My thoughts too. I don't know if he deserved to go as his season was really mediocre overall but I believe his leadership is the reason why D'Brick and Mangold had very good seasons last year.

Faneca was decent in pass protection but was great in run blocking. I saw him alot of times down field bulldozing the opposing defender. Guys a beast and a warrior. An his mentoring of D'Brick and Mangold is great. He deserved to be in the pro-bowl this year especially since T.J. rushed for over 1300 Yards and 13 Rushing Td's. I Do believe that the name always helps too.

Well, D'Brick is a better pass blocker than run blocker, and that's normally what you want from your left tackle. Right tackles are typically huge maulers that are better against the run than the pass. Woody doesn't quite fit that bill, but he did a fine job last season.

Actually, it's the Daily News that gets by on reputation.

They deserve high praise when it comes to negative commentary. That part of their game is strong.

But when it comes to balanced coverage or positive reporting, they rank at the bottom of the League. Who knows what a player like Cimini could be in a better system, but today he's lucky to draw a pay check.

I think the reason was woody. Moore has been there for years. He had a good year and kept his penalties down, but Woody was the guy we added. and yes, we did run very well to the right.

Both Faneca and Woody Damien were good downfield blockers and the line was great at run blocking. The line as a whole sucked at pass blocking. I think part of that is BF was a stationary target. Not just cuz he was too old to run, but even more because the play calling kept him stationary. How many times did you see BF intentionally roll out of the pocket last year? Its clear that the coaching staff was trying to protect BF with the play calling, the proof is that they prolly didn't use him in a single QB sneak the whole year. Meanwhile in 07 Penny with his bad ankle seemed to be trying to set the league record for QB sneaks. I think someone, either the owner or the HC, put the word out that BF wasn't going to be running any bootlegs or anything else like that. But being a predictable, stationary target just made BF even easier to sack.
