I wasn't going to post this...because I'm not a big fan of Rich Cimini's fluff articles...but one quote caught my eye, regarding Josh Freeman....from Bill Callahan. After watching the run game and oline play flourish last year, i have a new found respect for Callahan...so his initial impression of Freeman is something to consider, IMO. Thoughts? Personally...I think Freeman is overrated....and we'd pay dearly for years to come if we drafted him. That's just my opinion. I know some other posters are high on Freeman...and I could be wrong. Not sure how much of a influence Callahan has on who we draft but i don't want Freeman either. Don't need to add another rookie QB in need of development to a group of 3 rookie QB's all needing development.
I think 2% of this board wants freeman. Me excluded. This kid is a project, and if he has a WR mentality for a QB, he's not going to do well. Cerebral and Leader are two words i've never heard connected to his name. Big dude, strong arm - that's all i hear. I also have heard poor decision maker.
To expect maturity from a 17 to 18 year old is foolish thinking He was a kid then and he still is. We are all learning and being a human being is always a work in progress The things we think or say at 18 will be different at 25 What we say and think at 25 will be different when we are 35.
when you're a QB in the NFL, you have to be beyond your years. Its the difference between Matt Ryan and Matt Leinart.
I'm pretty sure Rex/Schotty have a collective ear for Callahan (and the rest of their coaching staff for that matter) given his past HC coaching experience....especially in this case since he has previous experience dealing with Freeman.
I agree, 100% But unless we have some ex NFL QBs who have groomed their sons for the position, then growing pains are to be expected. Family plays a big role in this too. What are their families like? I think that can be a strong indicator about their values
I really don't want us to use the No. 17 pick on this guy. I really haven't read anything positive about him except his arm strength
I will stroke out if he is our selection. I just had a feeling that we will end up trading up to select, Freeman. Wow, that would suck.
Thank god for Bill Callahan - I don't want Josh Freeman on this team...he's got way too much bust potential.
I hope we stay far far away from Freeman too, but a lot of his issues now reflect poorly on Ron Prince, not so much Freeman. Prince is the reason that Freeman is not a leader and hasn't really developed as hoped. Still a big kid with a big arm, but that's about it. Maybe if his coach wasn't such a jackass, he would have turned out better. But as of right now, he's a project and a half, and we don't need that.

To make an assumption that Callahan won't like the guy because he went to another school is asinine. Football is a business, just to play devil's advocate people are willing to give Kellen the benefit of the doubt when he played behind that horrible offensive line; even though he still had a couple weapons. In the case with Freeman he had no one on his team compared to Sanchez and Stafford so why doesn't he get the benefit of the doubt? I've been watching the draft for quite a few years now and it seems to me that even though Freeman may have the goods and talent he would never be looked at in the same vein as let's say a white qb. Not trying start anything but I believe the stigma is there. My $0.02
I don't necessarily think he wont be a good QB, but i think that we have the potential to have a good QB on our own roster, and if not i think there are potentially 3-4 better QB's than Freeman coming out next season. It's easier to give Clemens the benefit of the doubt because he is on our roster, and will be getting paid, taking Freeman, sitting him a year behind Clemens only to see Clemens do well, and have money invested in Freeman, it's a waste of our draft pick. I don't think it has anything to do with race, and i think people are always too quick to bring that up so i won't actually respond to that, because it's a non issue IMO.
So? I agree with the analysis... if we had say Favre for another season (god no ) I would actually like the pic because I think Freeman may become a good player if given the time. BUt in the situation we are now I say give KC and Ratliff a shot and if they fail next year there will be some interesting QB available between FA and the Draft...
