When I saw the schedule and figured out that I couldn't attend the first two games, I didn't complain. I agree with you that Football and religion should not be mixed, so I thought I would be missing the first two games this year. Really not the biggest deal in the world to me. I've been going to games for as long as I can remember and I will happily attend holiday services over a football game. That's how I prioritize. Now, the fact that the NFL changed the game was surprising to me, but it is a different circumstance here. Again, Jews would be missing two games, 25% of their ticket games. There's no watching the game on TV or listening to the radio either. That's not an option. Now as for myself, I won't be going to the Titans game anyway now that it's changed since I don't feel it's appropriate to go to a game hours before the holiday starts, so it's really not a big deal to me. I didn't complain before. Now, what got me worked up was reading some disturbing comments on this board. They do not belong in a football forum. Sports are supposed to weed all of that stuff out.
This forum is filled with anti-Semites! I've been posting here for a while. I had no idea. I'm so glad this thread started, so that you all could be identified. You guys are an embarrassment! And you're also cowards, who post hate while hiding behind your computer screens. There should be a new category on Gang Green: Anti-Semite Club.
No offense but why would a Jew be shocked or have no idea that their might be some anti-semites among us? I'm sure none of the homo-sexuals, African Americans and yes even Catholics understand that some Jets fans may have some prejudice just like we all do.
I agree with what you said, especially the point i highlighted. It really is up to the individual to prioritize. I'm not a religious person myself, but i fully understand the importance faith has to some people, and like i said that's not a problem, but the NFL shouldn't accommodate religious holidays. If people feel they need to uphold this holiday, that's perfectly reasonable, get someone to DVR the game, and watch it after. The holiday only last 25 hours does it not??
I know this is gonna sound like a joke but it's actually true. I'm Unitarian Universalist and we celebrate both Christmas and Hanukkah, so technically this thread is twice as offensive to me than it could be to anyone else.
As do I. I have season tickets, I didn't complain. But this circumstance is a little different. Though, it should have been taken care of before the schedule came out.
Its amazing how dumb this thread has become. The NFL is not picking one religion to be more important than another! Many of you miss the point. Due to the nature of the jewish holiday, the Jets/NFL have determined that 1) ticket sales will suffer (secondary market/attendance) 2) TV ratings will suffer 3) a significant amount of the fan base will be upset In contrast to Christmas or other holidays in which TV ratings are bigger and the game takes on a special atmosphere. Obviously there are some people who cannot watch games on Christmas or wont go to games on that day. But overall, the holiday ENHANCES the game. Whereas to the Jewish holiday, it prevents people from watching or going. The best proof I can give here is that The NFL asked the every team if they would like to host a special Christmas say game and 7 teams including the Titans volunteered. The holiday will make the game memorable and have a special feeling. This should not a religious issue, just business and common sense.
It does, and I've been happily DVRing games since it came out. Listen, we agree, I'm just explaining why this situation is slightly different. I'm still not going to the Titans game, it makes no difference to me.
Why do you care? What skin is it off your apple? As a season ticket holder who is not affected by the holiday, I prefer a 1 pm game to a late game anyway. Why do Giant fans have to suffer to make this right or palatable? Why does moving the game so that Jewish Jet fans can attend/watch negatively impact you or any other of us Jet fans??? This is the most intolerant, ignorant thread I have ever read on this board. I can't believe the patent bigotry and immaturity I've seen from people on this board. It really is embarrasing. And to do it all on a message board is cowardly, but also revealing. I fear for our future if this is how people really think when they do not have to confront others with their opinions and can hide behind a screen name. I come here to talk about the Jets and football and end up with this thread. What an incredible disappointment.
Hey look, a guy who wasn't even there to put those quotes in context; and even he gets it better than some people on this board.
Oh, there's a ton of bigotry on the board. It just needs a situation like this to expose itself. Some of the remarks in this thread are just the tip of the icebergs. The Jewish posters here that are actually getting insulted are actually here to fight back- most of the groups that are reviled have no representatives here. Some mods get away with murder here- its actually quite funny. This board has a lot of growing up to do on all fronts.
Absolutely i was agreeing with you, and the question at the end was actual genuine, i was actually asking how long it lasted
