No, you don't. Not ever. Overpaying in dollars you can get over. Bad trades involving picks have much worse and longer lasting consequences.(*See...Walker,Herschel: Minnesota Vikings) (see also, Parcells, Bill and Patriots, NE)
Jones is a RB and completely expendable. and if you think the WR we draft at 17 will be > or = to Boldin, good for you. Chances are it won't. If we are drafting a WR with the first pick might as well give it up for a proven all-pro WR.
Really? That's an overpayment? We'll see. TJ is entering his last season as a Jet. He won't be with the team in 2010. We won't pay him $7.5 million, he knows it, and that's why he's holding out for a new, long term contract. We're drafting a RB for the future anyway, why hold onto him this season if we have an opportunity for huge return? If they'd take a 2nd and Jones, I'd do that in a heartbeat, but I get the feeling they'd only bite on Jones and our 1st.
The Cardinals will discuss the trade options with Boldin's agent.....they won't risk trading him somewhere that he won't report to.....that's bad business. Obviously, the Cards have the final say....but to say Boldin and his agent don't have any influence at all on where he lands is naive at best.
Ummmm...Jones touches the ball what, 15+ times a game? Boldin...6? So with two years left on Jones deal, it would take Boldin 4, to get the same touches. Plus..Jones touches are more valuable, considering you plan on controlling the clock. Plus...It looks like you clearly do not understand the deal Jones signed. He got 13+mil over the first two years. He makes no money this year, and 5.3 in the last year (which is not guaranteed). He just does not want to risk his career on not getting hurt this year. He WILL PLAY OUT THIS CONTRACT. 5.3 mil for a 1200+ yard rusher is a bargain at today's prices. Boldin will want 8+ a year for half the production.Plus once you trade those picks or players, Boldin has 1 year left on his deal not two, and he will want more than 8 mil a year. P.S. in the last 4 years, he has played 16 games ONCE, missing 2,4,4 in three seasons. (Oh...also..Much like Leonard Marshall not playing with LT...Boldin won't be lining up with Larry.....) And I hate to point this out, But Cotchery has equal stats, and More games played over the last two seasons...Are you giving him 8 mil a year? This isn't Madden 2009, Jr.G.M.
Agree. Boldin will be the #1 reciever we have been crying for for years. He instantly makes the rest of our guys better and will turn Cotch into a big #'s guy. Coles never commanded the respect this guy would and when you add in Stuckey Clowney and Keller, this offense suddenly becomes a potent machine.
See above. We already have Boldin on the roster. His name is Cotchery. But don't take my word for it....Look it up.
Umm, after this season he has a 7.4 million cap number but we only eat 1.5 million if we cut for a cap saving of almost 6 million if we cut. This is his last year in NY unless he renegotiates next year which is unlikely And I think you forgot that Boldin put up numbers before Larry got there
There isn't anything more annoying then fans mentioning "rebuilding" because there no such thing, its the NFL. IMO, all teams rebuilds each year. Any team can win any year. When people mention we are rebuilding, its usually the years we actually have decent seasons looking into our past. We are a NY team the is no such thing as rebuilding. They will put the best, reasonable team possible to win each year... As for Boldin, I think I would do it. We need help at the WR position and what we get in our next 3 drafts might not equal to the talent Boldin is. Sanchez will be gone way before we pick. I think picks are overrated, many hyped, many busts, 1/4 or less turns decent.
Last two yrs: Cotch - 31 games, 150+ catches, about 2000 yds, 7 TDs, Boldin - 24 games, 160 catches, about 1900 yds, 20 TDs How does Cotch become better than Boldin? 100 extra yards over two seasons? or 100 extra yds, 13 fewer TDs, and 10 fewer catches with 7 extra games? As for you 'touches' analogy, thats BS. What about OL then? They get zero touches. Should the get paid at all? Exactly. If your OL is good, your RB should produce decent. A second or even 3rd round RB have proven in the past they can play NFL. TJ is not and will not be carrying this team. Our rushing offense will be though along with our D. Rushing offense includes OL blocking. If there's no hole, even LT would be shitting his pants. As for our WRs, teams will double cover Cotch and our passing offense would be finished. Inexperienced QB, inexperienced WRs besides cotch. Not the best position you would wanna be in. Oh n did I mention Boldin will require double coverage freeing up Cotch? Double cover both and you got Keller. Double cover all three of them and our QB can walk into the endzone.
I laugh at how people want to keep the picks... Boldin is better than anybody at 17, so he's the selection, that's how you have to look at it... Then you surrender a 3rd rounder, something you have 2 of? Come on.
this might be the worst post on the forums. I digress. It IS the worst on the forums. By your logic any starting RB in the game is more valuable than a WR. Yep makes perfect sense. RB is totally dependent on the line whereas a good WR can benefit a young inexperienced QB. And comparing Cotch to Boldin is just silly. Boldin has consistently put up pro-bowl numbers in recent years. I guess I didn't see Cotch putting up those numbers, Oh wait I didn't because it didn't fucking happen. But good logic, you should replace Tanny....
I'm not even going to respond to this drivel here. You'll find a response to this worthless train of thought later on. I don't personally plan to do anything. As far as the coaching staff, we plan to draft Jones's replacement in the draft. If this deal meant an increase in touches for Leon and a young back getting experience with the rest of TJ's carries, I'd be all for it. This is absolutely laughable. You tell me I don't understand the contract, and then proceed to fuck it up. That's awesome. At least the 13 million part was correct. Nature of the business. Salary bonus and all. As far as this and next season, yes...he's a bargain this season at $900k. However, HE WILL NOT PLAY OUT THIS CONTRACT. He will not be on this team in 2010. We don't want to sign him to a long term contract, and there is no chance that we pay him 5.8 (read that, 5.8 not 5.3) million as a 32 year old back. The 7.5 million, btw, is his number if a cap somehow gets instituted for next season. It makes him even MORE unlikely to stay. I love the assumption that he'll continue to be a 1200+ yard rusher not just this season, but next as well. Quick...how many RBs can you name who rushed for 1200 yards at the age of 32 and beyond? Uh...didn't think so. Please spare me the "he's a young 30" crap, too. After this season, he'll be well over 2000 carries. 9 seasons means 9 minicamps, 9 training camps, 9 years of practice. Even with minimal carries, that takes a toll. Can you imagine when he's past the decade mark in the league? Finally a valid concern. Oh, I mean the 2nd part. Not the first. We're essentially trading a pick we'd use on a different receiver and a RB we'd have for one more season for a proven star in the league. The contract issue is a concern, hence why I laid out how it could happen. If you knew how contracts worked, you'd understand how they hit the cap...if one even returns. However, his failure to stay healthy is a concern. Especially this season. That whole broken sinus thing. What a fragile bitch. Why don't you ask Cotchery who he'd rather line up with, a rookie or Anquan? Anquan makes life easier on our rookie QBs by making tough catches and giving himself up on every throw. He makes life easier on Cotchery by drawing double teams. He makes life easier on Keller by pulling a safety off coverage. He makes life easier on the running game by again forcing players out of the box. He helps out a ton in a clock control offense by being a reliable chain mover. That's a bit more than just those 6 touches per game. As far as Cotchery is concerned, how convenient to deal with the past two seasons when he missed those 8 games. Especially this season. Those late season games when Whisenhunt tried to prove a point by sitting Boldin on key plays and keeping the ball out of his hands obviously had no effect on his stats. Despite all that time off and the shit playcalling at the end of the season, although I doubt you were actually watching when a wide open Boldin was ignored time and time again by Warner, he more than doubled Cotchery's production in the end zone. I forgot that we had that reliable red zone target already. It wasn't missing last season or anything. You think I'd make this deal in Madden? I could get him for a hell of a lot less. And finally, since you respond so seriously and angrily with your ALL CAPS and little boy acronyms, let me remind you of something that I posted in the other Boldin thread before this one appeared:
Clearly you underestimate the double teams on Bryant Johnson all day long and the stellar play of Jeff Blake.
I certainly wouldn't mind Edwards. IMO, there are a number of scenarios that could help this team in the WR department, and I trust the FO is giving due diligence to all of them. If I had to guess, I'd suspect that we go into the draft without any further deals, but hope to trade back and build to address multiple positions. My ideal situation would involve a trade back and somehow drafting Kenny Britt/Jarron Gilbert/Shonn Greene with a 1 and 2 2s. Some serious wishful thinking, I know. Flexibility is the name of the game, though, and I'd be happy with any number of different approaches. We'll see.
