Who says we are most likely drafting a WR in the 1st? I would say we are most likely not drafting a WR in the first. I love Boldin but he just doesn't make sense for this team right now, he makes sense for a team like the Giants who are a WR away from being SB contenders. Two years in a row now he has missed games to injury and the way he plays I don't think he has many more years left in his prime. Rebuilding teams don't trade two high picks for a WR, especially when the QB position is as questionable as ours is.
I think it's a little harsh to call our offense worst in the league. We have a solid-to-excellent OL, which will only improve in its second year together. We have a dynamic playmaker in Leon and likely another one with Keller. We have a solid RB in Jones. I know our QB's are unproven and that certainly affects how you would perceive our offense, but it should be far from worst in the league. About the thread: it kills me to hear that us or another team will give up a 1st and a 3rd for Boldin when the Pats got the best WR in the league for a 4th. Another reminder of how much I hate beli-cheat and the pats.
All the best teams in the league build the base of their team through the draft - just because so many of them don't pan out doesn't mean we should be throwing away draft picks. In fact, we should be stockpiling them so we have a better chance of landing a few players who DO pan out.
I wouldn't complain. He might if the QB's suck though. Very physical reciever who gets hurt more than he should. Won't complain about going over the middle and will put his shoulder down. No matter where he is he's gonna get hurt. If he can learn to get outta bounds and avoid hits he doesnt need to take then he could extend his career. But coupled with Cotchrocket that would be a nice tandem.
Mabye in the past but in todays game it is 50/50 with free agency. For example the Pats Moss, Welker & Mayo were trades & Taylor, Baker, Galloway, Thomas, Bodden, Springs & Harrison were all free agents. So half of there starters off the top of my head were trades or free agents. I would think the Pats are the best or one of the best teams in the game & they dont feel that way.
We're considered a laughing stock on offense right now. But (to take a page out of TBDF's book) I think we change that perception with just a few additions. QB: Kellen/Ratliff WR: Boldin, Cotchery, Stuckey TE: Dustin Keller RB: Thomas Jones, Leon Washington, Shonn Greene I realize we have a question mark at QB. But whatever negatives have been said about Clemens, I've found those positives in Ratliff and maybe vice-versa. It's just a matter of finding out which one will handle the pressure on the field. Even if we were to get a QB this year, they'd have to sit behind Clemens/Ratliff for at least a year, making this (whether we want it to or not) their audition year. I highly doubt we cut both of them next year, especially whoever it is that leads us next year finishes the year at .500. Which means even if we go QB in the first round NEXT year, they'll still be sitting and learning the game.
The way I look at it is that if the Jets trade for Boldin, they felt around for what was going on in the draft and saw that there was a 90% or greater chance of Maclin not making it to #17 in combination with no one wanting to trade up to their spot (and get us in a position to draft Nicks or Britt). Hell, it might even be best to hold out til draft day and then make the trade once we're on the clock if neither scenario plays out. I certainly wouldn't mind Boldin at all, and I'd hope that if the Jets made this deal they did their due diligence in the draft. I also like the suggestion of the first this year in combination with a third in 2010, there's some pretty good value to be had in the third round of this draft. As you suggested, getting Boldin and drafting Greene would help us immensely on offense and keeping the ability to add some defensive depth in the third like Jasper Brinkley or Chris Baker (Hampton) would be great.
Here we go again. 1st and 3rd? That would be a horrible move. Anquan Boldin is a very good receiver, but not worth THAT much.
Those who were in favor of MA trade, probably will say pass. I say pass it to him, not just pass. Do it Tanny. He's proven, unlike MA, and has a track record of succes, unlike MA. Has caught a few in the NFL, again, unlike Miles Austin. A first instead of a 2 second is a jump but MA to AB is a whole new world. Do it in a heart beat. First guaranteed, a 5th conditional ranging from a 5th to a 2nd in 2010 while swapping. Give Cards something to think about too with the conditional 5th to 2nd. Do it Tanny, get it done. We need him.
I'd be excited about this if: 1) We had a QB. 2) We had a deep threat receiver. 3) We had a surplus of draft picks 4) Didn't have Jerricho Cotchery.
Wow. First off all, New England got amazing bargains on Moss AND Welker... a 1st and a 3rd is anything but a bargain for ANY player in the league, including Anquan Boldin. Second, Mayo was a draft pick. There was a trade of draft picks in order to acquire him, but it was still done via the draft. Third, all the guys you named haven't done anything on the Patriots yet. If you're going to cite FA signings as examples, use ones that have actually done something. Fourth, all of their core players were draft picks and the free agent signings supplemented those players, they weren't the core players themselves. Fifth and finally, the Patriots have accumulated 12 picks in the upcoming draft, including 6 in the first 3 rounds... I think that shows exactly how they feel about the draft.
Good idea Mack. But I wouldn't wanna give Brad away just like that. Take Brad, a 1st and a 3rd for Boldin and a 4th. Brad has been developing and can be handy now. He is much better than Miles Austin, the one some here were suggesting giving up a 2nd rounder for.
