Far be it from me to suggest a FA get signed by NY, but, with Thomas Jones being 31, why not go out and get Larry Johnson? See below article. IF..........IF, this is true, why not throw a 6th or 7th rounder at them and take him to "eventually" replace TJ? He's young and has what it takes to be an NFL power back, so if the price is so low, why not pull the trigger?
I think that even with Jones at 31 we are OK for another couple seasons.....he has no major health concerns, no seriously repaired joints, etc....
Larry Johnson will be 30 this season, and has had a lot of carries when he has played. He isn't that young.
Earth Wind and a Tire If anything if they were to add Larry to the current backfield it would make Jones work harder and vice versa. Interesting to say the least.
That's a little surprising to me. I just heard John Clayton the other day saying that LJ wanted to really impress the new coaching staff and lost weight and has been training as hard as he ever has. If he were ever available I'd take a chance on him in a heartbeat. Has had his troubles but he's a horse.
The logic is that, assuming we want him, we should trade a low draft pick to avoid having to bid with other teams. The problem is, if we trade for LJ then we have to take on his contract (about 6 mil this year). For half that price we could outbid anyone once he is cut.
Those 420 carries or so he had a few years back seemed to have worn him out. He reminds me of Jamal Anderson, after one year of a ton of carries, he fell off quick. I don't think he is worth bringing in.
