The problem is even if he were to avoid serious jail time, you'd have to think Jolly Roger Goodell is going to slam his iron fist with this situation. The other thing is he likely would not have been released if not for his stupidity.
From the Country that advocates the carrying of guns , I find the whole thing bizarre and hypocritical. The USAs constitution needs amending IMO. I don't profess to know enough about it , but it certainly seems old and flawed.
I believe in NYC clubs you can get just as much respect with a tube sock stuffed in your sweat pants as you can with a gun without having to consult the Constitution.
I'll try not to talk out of my ass here , but , he didn't go out with the intent to injure someone ? It was for his own personal security / accessories ??? Put me straight here , is carrying a gun , loaded or otherwise illegal in NYC ? My guess is yes..... Is he getting the book thrown at him because hes high profile , or does anyone who gets caught in the same situation face , similar or same ramifications ?
I did read that carrying a un-licensed firearm in NYC got you a mandatory minimum 3 1/2 year sentence and a maximum 15 year sentence. Read that in this article from the time: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/01/sports/football/01burress.html Not sure if that is helpful at all GTA Gun Laws in NYC (Taken from Wikipedia, so take it with a pinch of salt)
That is correct, 3 1/2 is the mandatory minimum yet a lot of people still end up getting less. He probably will too because the gun had been legally licensed in Florida until just a few days before the incident happened. He also has a clean record and there is probably some sort of pre-trial intervention in NY. Even with all of that it is my guess he will serve at least a year.
80% of those who did what Buress did were plead down and served jail time. Buress is not being treated unfairly at all.
They said on Sporting News yesterday that Plax has had 5 (FIVE) motor vehicle violations in the recent past!!!!! During the last incident, he told the cop to F himself, numerous times. Plax just cannot show respect for authority even if his life depends on it. Their point was, Plax still just does not get it.
I'm not advocating we sign him, but his teammates with the Giants loved him and Big Ben was really upset when he was let go by the Steelers. Management/coaching staffs may hate him but his teammates don't
