it wasn't too long ago a guy by the name of brees was available! we had noodle back then, definitely an upgrade there. i don't remember the jets even giving it a thought. we passed on cutler in the draft and took fergy. cutler was much more highly regarded than clemens was by most, by far. we missed that opportunity. we seem to keep missing our opportunities for that franchise qb. it's evident, until we land one, we'll be the same old, same old jets!!! i sit at a desk with a pain in the arse chair, hence why i'm not a gm with a nice big mahogany desk and high back padded chair! just it would sure be nice to get that gm that can pull a brady out of the draft for once...
If Clemens or Ratliff stinks this year the good news is next year is a good Qb draft Crop so we can probably get and give up way less than what the Broncos would have tried to extort from us.
Brees signed a contract worth $10 million per in a year when we were about to start rebuilding. You don't commit that kind of money to a QB when you have nothing around him and are discarding players. We also passed on Matt Leinart, who was more highly regarded by most than Cutler. It would have been a huge leap to take Cutler at #4. Of course, with hindsight we can all be geniuses. So, the reason you're not a GM is that you sit at a desk with a pain in the arse chair? I agree, it would be nice to have a GM who could pull a Brady out of the draft. I mean, everybody else seems to be getting franchise QBs out of the 6th round. Nevermind that the 49ers, Titans, Texans, Lions, Bills, etc etc etc can't even get it done in the 1st round. We should totally hire someone who can do it in the 6th.
Is it really good news if we have to start over next year? More like: It'll suck, and we still won't know if we have a solid QB on the horizon. I agree we should give them a shot this season, but that doesn't mean there's any good news if they both fail.
The Jets have been re-building since Bellicheck gave them the NY Salute and bounced... and we've yet to see any fruits of that labor.
Not really. We made the playoffs three times in a four year span after that, won the division and got the the second round twice. That's not exactly rebuilding.
Don't forget two shit kicks away from the AFC Championship game. If anyone wants to place blame for our continued rebuilding, blame the subsequent offseason.
Thats right... teams that were supposed to be good enough but under-achieved... the Herm Error <Sarcasm for those that don't know>- but he was good... sorry... I'm just having a bad week... the Jets have no QB, and I have right now anyway, zero faith in any QB's we have or could get. And while it's great to have a stout Defense, the name of the game is scoring points, and you need to score when you have to. I do not believe that this team can do it when it matters.
Not to mention he was coming off knee surgery. That signing, while it looks good in retrospect, was extremely risky.
Don't fret, man, Rome wasn't built in a day. You need defense more, LT said it back in the day--offense is one thing you can win without. Of course he always had himself playing D. Let Ryan build a big D first, I've seen good teams do it that way a milion times and plus, we're a cold weather team. Run and play D, the passing game will take care of itself. Walt Michaels did it that way, took longer back then, but give Ryan a year or two to get where he wants us to be.
^^You two need to put your hindsight goggles back on. We're a much shittier franchise that way, and who doesn't want to hate their team as much as possible?
How long do I have to wait for Rome to be built... I mean, damn... I've been wearing Jets green and white all my life... I'm 38... the last time this organization won anything of significance, I was barely a glimmer in pops eye... What gives? Some one please tell me the silver lining, becauce I'm starting to feel like Chump... If that happens, I'd rather just not watch football.
You can't possibly feel like Chump. He got to see SB III. Sorry. We have to wait however long we have to wait. You're absolutely right; we're a joke more often than not. However, as much as people may talk about leaving the team and not watching football, we're stuck. Most devoted fanbase in football, if you ask me. It'll pay off one day...I hope.
I hear you bro, I'm 42, was almost 2 when we won the Super Bowl. It will make it that much better when we finally do win it. Gotta be optimistic or you'll turn into chump. If he has any purpose here it's that--an example of what not to let yourself become.
I can't believe all the doom and gloom over missing out on Cutler. Seriously, people act like they're going to throw themselves out of the nearest window over this. I think the one huge thing we're all forgetting is that teams win SBs as a TEAM. You build a team. There isn't a QB alive who can win you a SB without having a good team around him. The TEAM comes first... you build the team, and then, sure, having a good QB is very helpful, but you can also win a SB with a QB who doesn't always look like SB caliber. Most recent example is Eli Manning. The Giants won that SB because the TEAM was built to win. So yeah, I'm disappointed that we couldn't land Cutler. But I'm not unhappy about not having to shell out multiple Day One picks and whatever else we would have needed to outbid the Bears. The good side of this coin is that, with the picks and talent we saved by NOT making this deal, we can continue to build our TEAM, which, after all, is the ticket to winning the SB, and not just the QB alone.
and it's not just loosing Cutler for me... the smart part of me knows it was in the best interest of the BRONCO's to move him to the NFC. I'm just fed up... fed up with waiting... living with 2 Giant Fans and a Patriot fan makes me want to hang myself sometimes. I'm sick of being the but of the joke when it comes to football. I'd like to actually win something, and have a little respect. Right now, no one respects the Jets.
