Don you might be the most depressing person i have ever come across..... give the guys your support and a chance, if at the end of it your right, you get the pleasure in saying 'I told you so', in the mean time how about some positivity.

When you have watched the Jets self destruct through stupid moves for as long as some of us have then it's pretty easy to pick them out up front rather than letting yourself get down later. Clemens will not be the starter, it's simple. If he is it will only be long enough for them to find somebody else. Why else would they have traded for Favre, try to keep him and then try to trade for Cutler too? They aren't happy with him. He had his shot. He is entering his 4th year and they are still try to find somebody, anybody to take his place.

There is nothing negative in that, it's called seeing the forest through the trees. People around here just hate to be confronted with the truth.

I would feel alot better about our QBs if we still had Coles. I think if somehow we can get a good starter opposite Cotch(doubtful to happen through the draft) then I think our O will be good enough but w/ 1 legit starting WR and an unproven QB it's going to be tough.

    Kellen Deserves A Chance...

    Well...
You have a new coaching staff -- Matt Kavanaugh (the QBs coach) is no slouch himself.

A bunch of new eyes are going to give each of these three guys a thurough going over. This will be a serious competition alright.

As far as the Kellen vs Chad last year -- Chad is perhaps the smartest QB in the NFL after Peyton Manning. I think Kellen has learned a lot from the guy, myself.

Chad wins with moxie and guile and fantastic play faking.

Hopefully, Kellen has had the chance and enough reason to soak up as much of Chad's advantages as he can.

What Kellen also has that Chad never did was a fantastic arm and enough speed to get out of the way of most defensive linemen.

Hopefully, Kellen has put in enough skull sessions.

    We'll see.

Why did they pass on Cutler and draft Clemens with a second round pick and never give him a chance? Maybe Tannenbaum, Woody or Mangini didn't have the balls, the temperment or the outright knowledge to figure out what they needed in a qb and develop a QB? Maybe that's why they have always went with one that someone else drafted and developed?

Puhlease - Ignore the fact that the guy had happy feet cuz he had no time in the pocket at all...

And let's label him inaccurate because his passes his Justin Mccareins on the index finger and not his middle finger.....

Personally, I was impressed with Clemens - Especially when you look at how poorly Chad looked with the same crew.

One thing we do know about our KC and BR is that they have monster arms. We won't be seeing floaters any time soon that's for sure. I for one believe, and agree with Rex Ryan, we are just fine at the QB position and our boys just need a fair shot. I'll probably get flamed for this but I think the Jets' QB position is not a major concern. I'm more concerned about our WR's and I think that it will be addressed in the draft. I wouldn't be surprised if we pick up a RB as well.

I agree about WR but it is not realistic to expect it to be taken care of in the draft for this year. Very rarely do WRs blossom as rookies. It happens from time to time but it's alot to ask a rookie WR to step into the starting lineup and produce especially w/ an unproven QB.

You have to face the facts that Clemens is seen as a failure because on a disfunctional O with no real NFL experience he wasn't able to lift the team.

Usually when teams draft a QB to be the franchise QB they build around him and give him a real opportunity. Clemens has not and is not getting that opportunity. I suspect Ratliff and Ainge won't either. In an orchestrated competiton we are likely to see mediocre and up and down performance from any of these three next year unless management makes up it's mind in mini camp and gives one of them the ball and the reps.

The Jets see these guys in practice and have alot more info on them than we do. There could be somethigng to continuously trying to get a new QB rather than giving these guys a chance. From what I have seen I think kellen deserves a shot, 2 years ago we had no OL, injuries at WR and no running game. Ratliff looked good in a brief preseason opportunity, I like waht I have seen out of him at TC and in preseason but I'm not sure he is ready yet. I would like a vet backup in case either of these guys aren't ready but I wouldn't go out and get a new starter. I think we have guys that have starting ability.

This is how someone who has their opinion and is unwilling to look at reality or consider legitimate counter-points makes an argument.

if the front office had so much faith in clemens or ratliff, they wouldn't be looking to acquire cutler or for that matter favre last year.
when teams are interested in other qb's, it's usually because what they have isn't what is needed to get the team to the big one.
i think whats going on with the jets front office should tell you exactly what they think. clemens may be a qb that a team can use to get by with until that ever so elusive franchise qb becomes available. it also says they aren't that willing to put all their chips in on a third string qb. one that showed a little flash against third string hacks.

all and all, it's obvious the jets are still in need of a quality starting qb, they wouldn't still be searching if they truly thought he was already on the team.......

I think you could have said the same thing about Steve Young is he'd been evaluated based on his first season with the Bucs. Once he got to San Fran, he looked a lot better. This season, more than any, is the year that Kellen will boom or bust. All the tools are there, and if he struggles then the Jets have their answer.

I think any good front office will be looking for opportunities to make their teams better, and they would do so at any position if it was possible. QB is important and Cutler was available, so they looked. The Redskins have Jason Campbell, who is more proven than Kellen, and they were looking too. It's just the way it goes....I don't think it necessarily says that the coaching staff knows Kellen and Brett can't cut it.

Steve Young is not really a good comparison. Young was expected to be a great NFL QB, he struggled in tampa w/ average talent and took over a dynasty in SF and almost ruined it. Any QB would look alot better w/ the weapons he had in SF. Unfortunately we don't have those weapons here.

I agree. People who think bad pass protection and being under pressure do not affect the developement of a play, the type of throw and reaction are just plain wrong.

Percentage wise, who do you think has a better chance of completing a pass, a QB with good protection, or one running for his life?

Yes and one thing that kept Steve from washing out early, besides his passing ability, was his great athletic ability to run, which it seemed he had to do alot of in Tampa early on with those mediocre teams. It took awhile for the Niners to get him to be more of a pocket passer. Once he mastered that, it was lights out, great play.

comparing clemens and steve young in the same sentence is a royal joke. young had more skill and talent than clemens could ever dream of.

have you watched the redskins? they are trying to trade cambell for the same reason jets are with clemens, it's called a lack of faith. cambell couldn't read a defense if his life depended on it. you got to do better than this!!

    What legitimate counter-points?

The Jets trading for Favre is not an indictment of Clemens? The Jets taking a run at Cutler is not an indictment of Clemens? The fact that Ryan is throwing the competition open to a former rookie FA and a 5th round pick, neither of whom have any playing experience instead of handing the reins to a former 2nd round pick who got mentored by Pennington and sat behind Favre for a year?

Why should an unproductive back-up QB (that is reality) be commended for not bitching and moaning about the Jets looking at bringing in a far superior QB who has done something?

Did the O-line in 2007 affect his performance...absolutely, but does it absolve him of fundamentally looking lost and overwhelmed, absolutely not. At last year's pre-season? What's the excuse there?

I want you to show me where I am wrong? Really, I do. And use facts like game performance, not hypotheticals about better O-lines, better WRs, better RBs. Maybe I am forgetting some things from the 2007 season, but his accuracy (sub 55% completion %), turnovers (15) and lack of offensive production is what I recall most.

Tell me what your reality looks like.

Young didn't ruin it. He took over a team full of over priced vets who just didnt care anymore. The offense wasn't as effective in the 90's as it was in the 80's because teams were adapting and even starting to utilize it themselves. Not to mention the coaching change to Seifert, who was not even in same league as Walsh.

Also in the 80's there was just a small handful of teams who could even compete with the 49ers; Whereas in the 90's players such as Troy Aikman, Brett Favre, John Elway, Jim Kelly and even Dan Marino were in their primes and were leading great teams.

The epic NFC title game series between the 49ers and the Cowboys were secodn to none. I could watch those games every week.
